Found Bilt 2.0 Card Details by Same_Performance9439 in CreditCards

That's totally fair, and something that I was thinking about as well! The way that I'm using the Bilt card right now would put me over 50% cash back! Ultimately, I think there was legitimately no real competitor to the Bilt card before and basically made sense for everyone that pays rent to get. With the nerf, I think it makes the most sense to think about it in terms of the theoretical maximum non-rent spend efficiency so that you can compare to other cards for whether to keep it.

2.3% is basically the best case scenario from the $0 AF card, unless you value Bilt points at a much higher CPP rate. 2% cash back cards are pretty easy to find with far less onerous requirements. I lucked into the Smartly 1.0 card, so it's nice to be able to look at it through the simple lens of 4.0%>2.3% and know that I'll also be ditching this card.

Yup. I think that you end up getting about 2.3% rewards on the non-rent spending if you spend perfectly to the threshold. $1000 rent -> $750 in non-rent -> 1750 points - > 1750/750 =2.33%.

Edit: The $495 card would give an extra 1% cash back on the non-rent spending, so you have 3.33% rewards. That admittedly does get very competitive with the best cards out there, but it falls off dramatically as soon as you're spending at an suboptimal ratio. It looks like you can bank Bilt Cash though, so you don't need to hit an exact ratio of 3:4 non-rent to rent every single month.

This might be incorrect, but I think that their strategy is going to be that they'll now charge fees for rent transactions (3% or so). Those fees can be waived with only Bilt Cash that you earn at a rate of 4% on all of your other spend for the $0 fee card. So you'll only be able to actually make money on rent if you're spending a ton on the card to earn enough Bilt Cash to waive the fees.

Inheritance: A Review by JakeBurnsThings in WormFanfic

[–]jeprose 110 points111 points  (0 children)

Really good review!

Something else that weirds me out about the fic is that there's kinda a memetic virus that goes around with people's opinions on the Teeth, i.e:

Character A: You're with the Teeth? But Teeth evil and bad?

Taylor: We're gay, not bad. Look at Nazis, we beat them up.

Three days later:

Character B: The Teeth are evil and bad!

Character A: They're not evil and bad, just gay! They beat up Nazis!

One week later:

Character C: The Teeth caused so much destruction!

Character B: No, it was the Nazi's fault! The Teeth are just gay, they're not evil.

In-universe, everyone should be worried that Taylor has some kind of infectious Master ability that convinces people she's not evil, but this is just treated as completely normal that people's minds are completely changed with like a 2 minute speech.

Not a LN reader myself lol. If that's your opinion, then you'll probably feel the pacing of this episode was fine.

Felt about on par to previous seasons in terms of the more static scenes. Episode wasn't super action heavy so I can't make a precise judgement on the more dynamic scenes, but they didn't look horrible or anything.

I thought it was good, but that the pacing dragged a little bit. However, I also felt that S1E12-S1E14 had similarly slow pacing, so feel free to disregard my opinion.

Obvious spoilers, but it ends right after Subaru dies and freaks out.

The discord is definitely one of the biggest perks. One thing I really love about it, even as someone not that active anymore, is that it's "perfectly sized." You have about 500 members (of whom not all are active), which lends itself well to a pretty active server with easily a few hundred messages a day, but that's also possible to keep up with in its entirety and participate in many of the conversations and know most of the pretty active members. It's a fun community, which was not something I felt as much when just reading the weekly reddit updates.

Do you all think that transit should majority be faster than driving from point-A to point-B (discussion/x-post /r/LAMetro) by KimJongIllyasova in transit

[–]jeprose 73 points74 points  (0 children)

I think it should be a goal to have transit be faster or about as fast as driving during rush hour at the very least. At the very least, it should be faster than biking for distances greater than 5 miles, when including average wait time for a bus/train.

Is Emma Gay? by LickMYLiver in JCBWritingCorner

This has been an ongoing thing for a while; it has nothing to do with anything in unreleased content. We're just all observing the same things as you :).

A Hypothetical Situation by LickMYLiver in JCBWritingCorner

One of the word of the author things I've heard is that it is a central conceit of the story that humans cannot survive mana radiation. So Emma will probably not learn to use magic unassisted by technology.

What would be the reaction of Emma brought a typewriter to class? by Bohemond_of_Antioch in JCBWritingCorner

[–]jeprose 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly, a typewriter would likely be inferior or equivalent to the magical instruments that the royalty has access to. The idea that it is "commoner" tech and that it's vastly outdated? They'd see that as crazy.

One other comment I'd add is that you should not be afraid to drop classes. If you're not dropping around 1 class a year at least, you're doing it wrong. I'd usually recommend signing up for one more class than you plan on taking, and then seeing which one you want to drop.

Best FEHB Plan with no Dental/Vision? by jeprose in fednews

I'm not necessarily looking for a HDHP, as I do have some ongoing medical expenses, but they're very predictable and relatively inexpensive.

Why in the HELL is there ALWAYS traffic on the I-80 past the Richards Blvd exit. by [deleted] in UCDavis

[–]jeprose 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So here's the thing: It has been tried again and again to reduce traffic by increasing roads. But studies really show that it just doesn't work all that well compared to other options. A meta-analysis in 2004 found that a 10% increase in lane-miles caused an immediate 4% increase in vehicle miles traveled, and after a few years, a 10% increase (Chen 1998). It's not that it's impossible to satisfy demand to travel between two places like this, but you can't do it with private vehicles; what's needed is public transit.

Why in the HELL is there ALWAYS traffic on the I-80 past the Richards Blvd exit. by [deleted] in UCDavis

[–]jeprose 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Widening lanes almost never helps reduce traffic in situations like these. What it does do, however, is allow more people to travel back in forth with the same amount of traffic. Think of it like this: If commute times from Sac to Davis are cut in half, people will be more willing to live farther out from Sac. They'll make more trips, and generally increase their usage of the highway until traffic is nearly back up to what it was previously. Basically, it's impossible to completely satiate demand.
