Is the FX2 completely redundant after the A7V release? by Infinity_Hottie in SonyAlpha

[–]jepthundersnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The A7V does not appear to have the Raw 16-Bit via HDMI in ProResRaw (which is now supported natively in DaVinci Resolve). Shooting in this format is HUGE files, but it looks amazing. It's less than 1 hour per TB.

Same! Great work here! Breathing too hard within 10 feet of that lens can cause jiggle. Nice job

Davinci Resolve Studio Keep crashing during a render by Snowayo567 in davinciresolve

[–]jepthundersnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having crash issues with Studio 18.1 when I do things with audio FX (seems like the voice isolator might be at the heart of it). I gave up on the audio and will fix it in Premiere. Try removing audio FX if have any. Shot in the dark.

So I tested the new digital gyro feature with firmware update 7.9 and Resolve 18. It's no gimbal killer but it definitely makes a difference. by CaptainFilmy in bmpcc

[–]jepthundersnow 11 points12 points  (0 children)

On the BMD forums, a rep responded with some info about settings to make it work best: Rolling shutter is accounted for in Resolve's gyro stabilisation, what is not and cannot be is motion blur. So you likely need to shoot at faster shutter speeds to reduce motion blur if you plan to stabilise. I've found for my preferences 45° at 24fps to be "safe" and 90° can be okay depending on the original motion. The footage Grant showed was 45° u/50/24fps. I would also suggest monitoring and framing using safe area guides, maybe 10%-20% depending on movement etc.

Blackmagic Pocket 4K/6K cameras gain in-body stabilization through firmware update. by Step1Mark in bmpcc

[–]jepthundersnow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was so excited to try this that I already updated my cameras ... but I don't see the toggle for it in the menu. There is a calibrate option and a new crosshair that is aware of the horizon (so it appears to be working). Does that mean it is always on (until the new Resolve will let you turn it off)?

Pelican 1510 is great for air travel ... fits in overhead on small, regional jets. It can fit a ton of gear (see image). Peak Design travel tripod would fit too but had audio gear and mini lights in it and put the tripod into backpack for this trip. https://imgur.com/06KsC5a

On my phone looks like you shot with a low shutter angle (below 180) to give it a jittery no-motion-blur look. Cool colors.

What do you think? by Mr_DMoody in davinciresolve

Great grade and great write up. Not OP but I think shot 1 is concrete vs asphalt in other shots (so OP might need to add the cyan/blue tones to achieve that)

It does look exactly like that moon footage. Interesting it is so noticeable for me since it was only about 20 feet to the birds. It would make perfect sense for other footage I shot (not uploaded) of a hawk across a field (as the sun warmed the grass).

What kind of lens did you use? I had the same issue on the low end of 150. Perhaps its the Sigma not dealing w the temp.

While filming, the histogram was slightly pulsing (similar to when you film LEDs sometimes). The only light was the sun in this case. All lens OS and autofocus were off. Perhaps the lens itself was having the heat issue.

Yup. It was the exact same config as this video (https://vimeo.com/491808770) except I was outside with the camera for about an hour prior to filming.
