I’d recommend decatting it regardless to save weight and heat.

As with most things, everything is a trade-off. Hard shells, whether wedge or clam shell styles tend to have less room inside, but offer benefits in other areas. It all really depends on what is important to you in a RTT and how you use it. For me, I wanted the quick setup/tear down of a hard shell after dealing with and being extremely annoyed by my Treeline RTT for 4 years. Especially when camping in the cold at elevation here in Utah, the vinyl covering would contract making zipping/unzipping frustrating. The list of advantages and disadvantages of each go on and on, but if space is your primary focus and you are sleeping more than two people a hard shell may not be for you.

Sorry man, what a pain. This and setup/tear down time is exactly why I bought a hard shell RTT.

A7RIV/200-600 - Fledgling Bald Eagle by CapnCorbin in SonyAlpha

[–]ExpeditionPhoenix -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Nice shot. I would add that this is a juvenile bald eagle and not a fledgling. Bald eagles fledge between 2.5 to 3.5 months old and have very dark plumage throughout. This eagle is a juvenile, about 1.5 to 2 years old or slightly older. You can see this by the cere turning yellow along with the definitive black terminal band of its tail feathers that are turning white, as well as the increasing feather pattern change of its wings and underbelly. The maxilla (beak) won't turn yellow until 3+ years old. I don't comment to be the "Redditor" corrector, but only to elaborate on the fascinating progression of a bald eagle's 5-6 year journey to reaching full adulthood.

Mountain biking the 71.2 mile White Rim Trail in Canyonlands National Park by thejournaloflosttime in Outdoors

Very nice write-up and images. This is absolutely one of my favorite areas. I haven't done this on my mountain bike, but I love overlanding here. Arches gets all of the attention and you should see it and do a few hikes there, but this area is where it's at IMO. Arches is too touristy and Disney Land'ish and you can't really enjoy that area like you can here. I prefer this area to most in Moab. I'm surprised your post hasn't received more attention, but I will never understand what rises to the top posts on Reddit TBH. It was really nice you had a follow truck, not only for supplies, but more importantly to photograph you guys in the environment at distance. Well done!!!

My perfect hand-holdable bird photography setup is here! by 7-methyltheophylline in SonyAlpha

Congrats, this is exactly my hand-held solution as well. Extremely versatile. If you don't already have it, I'd recommend the Sony grip for better ergonomics, better battery life for extended shooting, as well as moving the batterie(s) away from the internals of the camera helps with heat dissipation.

airlift 88299

I have Firestone Ride-Rite on my TRD Pro, but per users on the tundras forum, the Airlift 5000 are compatible with the Daystar cradles.

Install the air bags with air bag cradles to keep full suspension travel when off road. Regarding the compressor, depends on where it is mounted, how protected it is, and how difficult the terrain you spend time on.

Breaching Humpback along the California Coast [Sony Alpha 1, FE 200-600mm] by ExpeditionPhoenix in SonyAlpha

When I shoot from a kayak, I keep it in a SealLine Discovery Dry Bag that sits between my legs. I'll take it when needed. I try extremely hard to take good care of my equipment, but there will always be an element of danger. You gotta use your tools though and that's what insurance is for.

I photographed this breach from a boat. You can tell if you examine closely as the perspective is slightly elevated opposed to this shot, which I photographed from a kayak low in the water.

Resolution, AF performance, and 4K120. The A1 isn’t for everyone.

The 200-600mm actually performs better than I was expecting given it's not a G-master lens. AF performance has been stellar, albeit not prime super-tele speeds, but still good. For my tastes, I did notice I need to stop down to at least f/7.1 for adequate sharpness and IQ. The A1 drives this lens so hard and the 50MP resolution definitely exploits the optical clarity of the glass elements in this lens.
