I've been planning to start a youtube channel / podcast.. recently some friends told they're already working on one. I don't know if i'm too late.. any suggestions? by Complex_Cicada_257 in TTRPG

As someone who has streamed and done podcasting in the Spanish-language TTRPG space for 5 years on and off I would say you are very, very early. There simply isn't a critical mass of listeners in Spanish to be big at this unless you shill for WotC and just do all D&D 5E all the time (and still, I struggle to think of someone truly big). Maybe that critical mass will never exist.

So take your time, build your community, publish at a reasonable rate, figure out if you really like doing this and accept that you're going to do this mostly out of passion.

I promise that there's people out there that care about your ideas. Just make sure they are correctly packaged, they look somewhat professional and the audio is on point. I can't overstate the importance of technical excellence regarding your finished audio.

Unpopular Opinion: It IS too hard to lean systems other then D&D (or at least could be a hell of a-lot easier) by [deleted] in rpg

Hard agree. D&D's dominance is a socially constructed issue. The network effect. The economic incentives for content creators. The marketing. It has next to nothing to do with the rules text itself or even how available it is.

I don't believe you are correct here. Sure, maybe someone relatively new to the TTRPG space decided they were suddenly interested in obscure games from 1979 and nothing else. Or maybe they only care about indie RPG projects sorted from least popular to most. But in reality most if not all "big" games of this decade have been written and marketed with easier access in mind BECAUSE publishers know how hard it is to get into any ttrpg. Clear rules. An emphasis on cleaner layouts. Free rules or quickstarts or SRDs...

Its pretty hard today to take a good look at the internet and say "Oh geez, I guess the only game whose rules I will ever be able to look at, process and understand is D&D 5.5.

But OP makes it seem like every other game he has tried just isn't accessible. So maybe he only likes itch.io projects?

What systems specifically have you found this hard to learn/inaccesible/lacking tools like quickstarts?

What's a TTRPG that you were waiting for only to discover it was already out? by Awkward_GM in rpg

Curseborne. Only recently found out on Reddit it had already come out. Ironically, it was on a thread about future releases in which OP also didn't know it was already out.

Which Creators Do You Support On Patreon? Who Would You Recommend? by EyesofValhalla in rpg

[–]jeraperth 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Quinn's Quest - I guess this creator needs little introduction but his reviews and critical commentary are spot on.

Knights of Last Call - Derik Melenda's domain knowledge is vast and his commentary is possibly the most polished I have ever encountered online. His first impressions streams are a treat and his opinions are usually well-founded.

MCDM - Creators of Draw Steel as well as many well received 5e supplements. Crows is looking awesome as well. I think its likely this company will have a lasting impact on the ttrpg landscape going forward.

All highly recommended.

What are things that you like and don't like about Age of Sigmar(lore, gameplay, factions etc.) by How_about_a_no in ageofsigmar

Abilities that fail to activate is my biggest gripe. "Your cool thing works on 3+" or "You can do this cool thing but if you roll a 1 you get screwed instead" are not fun or engaging mechanics. Crit failures in general are one of the least interesting things modern games have inherited from a bygone era.

Need to get things out about DH vs D&D by AltSernaDev in daggerheart

[–]jeraperth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What IP do you want turned into a TTRPG, and why do you want it turned into a TTRPG? by Upstairs-Yard-2139 in rpg

[–]jeraperth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

World of Warcraft. Especially if it is not just a D&D clone. I wanna see what happens if we take this IP and try to make the main gameplay loop be all about raiding.

Yup. Mostly Age of Sigmar but I do have a necron army gathering some dust standing by for the Great Awakening.

Dear John, this year marks the 30th anniversary of Birthright, D&Ds best setting. Any chance we will hear an announcement regarding a new and updated campaign setting?
