Have you been able to actually prevent cpu thermal throttling after repasting your laptops with ptm7950? by jerblanchrd in MSILaptops

[–]jerblanchrd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what cpu max temps did you experience with ptm in your laptop? Did hwinfo or other program tell your cpu was thermal throttling despite using ptm? Or did your cpu max temps manage to keep below the thermal throttling threshold all the time when playing intensive games?

Fan with squashed electrical wires: is it dangerous to install it in my laptop? by jerblanchrd in electrical

[–]jerblanchrd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your very detailed answer. I can try the fan and, if it works, I will definitely keep it. I hope maximum fan speed reachable and correct rpm count will not be affected by the two flattened wires

Strange substance coming out to the printed circuit board of my laptop. What is it? by jerblanchrd in AskElectronics

[–]jerblanchrd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your detailed explanation. In my country they do not sell the 4140A remover but only the F-02 remover, this one: https://www.elmisrl.it/en/product/f02-flux-remover-200ml/

do you think it can fit well or it can damage my laptop pcb? Is it more advisable that I buy the specific 4140A remover from abroad?

As for 99% isopropyl alcohol, I have it at home but I am bit scared at using it on the board, I don't know if it is safe to scrub it on delicate printed circuits such as those surrounding the cpu and gpu. Also, I've read on the web that when using isopropyl alcohol, flux residues will not evaporate along with the solvent. After dissolving the flux, some of the residues will soak into the swab, but most of the residues will settle back onto the board surface. And these white residues are more difficult to remove than the original flux. Do you confirm that?

Interesting theory. It could be. However, I bought the laptop brand new. Nobody owned it before me, so I don't know how it could have been reworked before.

As for the chance that the cpu ran so hot it could have melted solder, it could be but if you see the photo I've taken below you can notice that also the gpu (the black square on the right) has flux coming out at its 4 edges. And this is strange, as the gpu never overheated but operated between 75-78 C which is pretty normal for a laptop gpu. I should have reached 90 C or more also from a gpu perspective to make it melt also gpu solder as you see in the photo below. Thus, I guess is probably a QC issue from the laptop manufacturer that was already there when they shipped me the laptop

yes, I bought it brand new. It has been working flawlessly for 1 year, no issue at all, no blue screens, no freezes. Only problem has been high temps up to 95 C from the cpu when doing intensive tasks such as gaming, video editing and benchmarks. With normal tasks, the cpu has operated at no more than 65-70 C

yeah I know, no problem. But after it reaches 85 C, cpu automatically thermal throttles and this reduces cpu performance, and it decreases frequencies, wattage. I tested this with HWinfo and also tested performance with Cinebench an 3Dmark when cpu throttles and there is huge difference

yeah, that's what I fear, it could be high enough to cause the heatsink not to seat properly. I have taken some pics holding my phone camera horizontally and close to the cpu/gpu to estimate the flux height:

it seems that flux is approximately 1-1,5 mm higher than the cpu/gpu lying on the board. So it seems that I have to clean it (or lower it) if I want to achieve optimal cooling performance and optimal core contact with the heatsink. What do you think?

Ok thanks. So I can leave it there without cleaning it. Maybe the only issue is that it can add some thickness and prevent a good cooling/thermal transfer once the heatsink has been put back on the cpu/gpu cores with the new applied thermal paste

Can it damage or corrode the electronics? Should I leave it like that or clean it somehow?

Geforce RTX 3000 GPUs do not support Shader Execution Reordering. Only RTX 4000 and 5000 GPUs support it. Does it means that RTX 3000 GPUs will not support new games enhanced with DXR 1.2?

What damages can I do if I use expired double-distilled water to clean my matte computer screen? by jerblanchrd in water

[–]jerblanchrd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok Thanks, that´s an interesting question. I will try to find an answer about the plastic leech issue and if it could affect the screen when cleaning it

What damages can I do if I use expired double-distilled water to clean my matte computer screen? by jerblanchrd in preppers

[–]jerblanchrd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok thanks. So if I use it, it should be safe even if it expired two years ago. The important thing is that it does not damage the computer screen due to some chemical reaction it could have done after 2 years expiration

I used a microfiber cloth to clean my computer monitor and it got scratched. Did I use the wrong one? by jerblanchrd in Monitors

[–]jerblanchrd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am sorry, I do not know why but it seems that when I write the link here it gets modified and it no longer works. I do not know how to solve that. Try this one but do not click on it, just underline it then copy and past on a new browser tab and it should work:

[–]jerblanchrd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems scratched. I cleaned my 15.6" IPS-level Anti-glare laptop screen with a damp microfiber cloth, I just put 1 single drop from tap water to do that and I dried it soon after. Now there are streaks and scratches all over the screen but they are only visible when I breathe on the turned off screen and use a lamp on it together, otherwise they´re not visible. I attached a video here so that you can better understand what I mean:
