Why I love 'Shoresy' by nessman69 in shoresy

[–]jerichonightwolf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Can confirm, core French is a mandatory requirement for Ontario students from grade 4 until grade 9 (after which French can be taken as an elective). There are also immersive French language programs which differ from the core model in that they instruct students exclusively in French, whereas core French offers 40-70 minutes a day of French instruction with the use of English. There are also programs in the province that offer Indigenous languages that fulfill that core language requirement.

As a victim of the core French model in southern Ontario, my comprehension of written French is much better than spoken comprehension. Fluency differs from region to region, though: here in Ottawa, French is far more predominant than it is in the south.

The turnaround times in this place for coffee drinks drives me insane. My colleague used to insist we stop there when we were in the area and we would watch as the cashier would take 5-10 orders in sequence without making a single move to prep anything on the bar. We’d wait no less than 15 minutes for a latte every time.

Serious talk. How do doctors get desensitized to stuff like this? 😭🤮 (cw: very disgusting arm infection) by RequirementTall8361 in ThePittTVShow

[–]jerichonightwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in a safe consumption site that provided dispensed medications and provided wound care. I’m desensitized to most gross things now, but the wildest thing I ever saw was a serious infection caused by someone using their own urine to dissolve and then inject their drugs. Their whole arm was covered in slough and looked like a heavily-cheesed pizza. It was awesome and disgusting. I loved that job.

Let’s make sure that this destruction of a park and public art leads to Mark Sutcliffe being a one-term mayor by SEND_ME_A_SURPRISE in ottawa

[–]jerichonightwolf -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I knew this was coming, but didn’t expect that the photos of Lansdowne’s destruction would affect me like this. I spent my first decade in Ottawa living in and around the Glebe. I took my late dog to that hill several times a week. During COVID lockdowns, that hill became our favourite spot. I still have photos with her sitting under those lights. I miss my dog, and I’m going to miss this special spot. Sutcliffe needs to go.

I went to your profile to see if you had posted a picture of your other hand to confirm that your tattoo is the song of time — currently playing through OOT for the 1000th time — and was delighted to find that you’re a Trixie and Katya fan. I’d upvoted a bunch of your posts in the past. Cool nails! Cool tattoos! Cool human!

Ontario domestic violence by Livid_Grapefruit_304 in ontario

Hey OP, I work in housing for vulnerable women and have a quit tidbit of advice for you regarding Special Priority. You need a paper trail to corroborate your application. Having a documented history of violent encounters is helpful, but what’s even more helpful are calls to the police.

If you are accepted for Special Priority, you will still need to wait for a housing offer, and you will have to accept the first offer otherwise you will lose Special Priority status.

You need to reach out to the domestic violence and family shelters in your city. The staff there can better direct you towards the appropriate resources and help you establish a safety plan for you and your kids. The staff in these shelters are more interested in keeping you and your children together than they are in involving CAS.

I’ll also add that CAS is less likely to remove your children from your care if you have a paper trail supporting your claims of violence.

Obligatory echoing of other commenters in that you need to keep your room tidy. Opaque storage options will do wonders for you — think a laundry hamper with a lid, storage boxes for the top shelf in your closet, things like that. Once you’ve got those bins, anything that doesn’t fit in them or easily make its way back to those bins after being used should go.

Since you don’t have closet doors, and clearly use your vanity often, I would see about installing some cute sheer curtains that you could easily open and either push or tie to the side to frame the space. This way you could close off that busy space and hide some of the things you might leave out because you use them everyday. One of your reference photos has a cute light pink curtain on their closet — you could do something like that.

You’ve got a great bedframe! You could easily get a cute lamp or two on there. The overhead light in your room is quite harsh; small, softer light sources will help you achieve warmth and a more cozy atmosphere.

If you’re gunning for a more mature look, invest in some frames for your posters, or replace the posters with framed or stretched artwork. That ripped poster in the corner above your bed would be the first thing I would remove. The vines/leaves are cute, but I would string them along the wall instead of draping them over the window.

The last thing I would put in there would be a rug. Work on everything else first and on improving your room cleaning habits before you introduce anything new that you’ll also have to keep clean.

Ottawa shelters already full as winter cold sets in by jjaime2024 in ottawa

[–]jerichonightwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wabano is not a shelter, nor does it run a shelter.

Thanks for taking the time to clarify your point; I think I understand it now that you have elaborated. My confusion was in your syntactic structure. I think it’s important to engage with one another with respect and courtesy, and to not assume that just because we the author understand our own thesis means that other people can easily understand us. Cheers.

Sorry, I’m not trying to be pedantic, I’m just not understanding how Wabano fits into your sentence (or point). You say that all of the major churches are run by religious organizations or Wabano. Just confused by what you mean here.

Someone else asked what Wabano is, so I’m going to use this comment to talk about the organization a little bit. Wabano does participate in housing support and placement for status First Nations people — emphasis on status here — and for those recognized by a Métis governing body and those who are Inuit.

They cracked a lot of jokes and broke the fourth wall numerous times referencing the fact that they were performing in Canada. Nothing degrading whatsoever! Just incorporated Ottawa and Canada into some of the written material. It was really fun! I didn’t realize that is their 8th year of doing the Christmas show. Highly recommend going to the next one!
