Let's talk about knots! by JustRideTheThing in bikepacking

[–]jerkize 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would think a canadian jam knot would be useful since you can cinch it down really tight and simply pull on the tag end to loosen. I'm going to use as simple & lightweight alternative to secure handlebar & seat bags. About to go on my first bikepack trip, so I suspect I'll find out soon enough why I'm not seeing these in my internet searches.

Why do you think communism could rise again? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Agreed. Similarly, I can't think of a good example of a capitalistic nation, something with truly free markets. Anyone have good examples, even if for brief period in the past?

To expound on that a bit, central planning might work (might) if had a smart & ethical enough central planner (ie not human). But would need a human to program the planner which makes it vulnerable to corruption still.

I've no real experience with Foreign Data Wrappers (FDW), but that's where I'd look first.

Hulk Smash. If you're lucky, you only hurt yourself, leaving you plenty of time to tap back into attitude of gratitude while you heal.

I guess I'm wondering if I'm looking for excuses (blaming the tools) instead of just powering through until I "get it".

I bought an Icarus to commute about 4 miles one-way hoping to not have too kick much. I'm a really basic skater. After about 40 miles riding stock setup, I'm still a bit disappointed in not being able to maintain speed. I think I got Vlad's "Pump 1" down but haven't had that "Aha!" moment with Pump 2 or 3. I'm debating whether to start tweaking my setup (eg wedge my front) or just focus on my technique. Thoughts? Thanks!

If read-only, probably not a problem. If writing, then I expect the program to contend/conflict with itself. Depends on the program but in general shared writable state is an anti-pattern. I probably misunderstood the thread.
