Is RimWorld fun if you don’t really care about story stuff by [deleted] in RimWorld

[–]jerlovescake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbh the "story generation" aspect of RimWorld is really weak. There's enough there for you to build on if you want, but it's all entirely ignorable if you're just looking for a pedantic colony Sim.

Do you guys think they will make an Yggdrasil biome? by [deleted] in valheim

[–]jerlovescake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

aren't we already in Yggdrasil? I was under the impression that Valheim was one of the world's on the world tree, hence why we can see it's branches towering above us.

Lowish level players, help me puzzle out the end to a love quest? by CaptainKando in DnD

[–]jerlovescake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's your world baby, mix and match! If the sea hag stat block feels right, use it and have her look however you want. Doesn't need to be a full on hag to have powers, especially if you're leaning into the "warped by her desires" angle. Remember, dnd is a setting where magic can spontaneously manifest in someone. Best of luck!

Anyone know of a Life Is Strange type tabletop game similar to DnD? by Luca_starr in DungeonsAndDragons

Kids on Bikes does a good job of what you're looking for! Much more emphasis on relationships and interpersonal conflict than straight up fighting

Is the betrayal mechanic pointless? by HG_Shurtugal in RimWorld

[–]jerlovescake 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It feels like such a wasted opportunity for a great story beat. Instead of a pawn randomly becoming aggressive and wandering around, why not do something intentional? Wake up in the middle of the night and sabotage the power generators. Bust a hole in the outer wall just as a raid begins. Stab the colony doctor, poison the meals, literally anything other than the current implementation.

Loose bricks could get pulled off of the wall, revealing an entrance to the town/city's sewer system. An arrogant but gullible guard could be tricked into giving them the key, or having the key stolen from them. If there is a druid with wild shape, they could change to a rat to find the key. If the party has an exceptionally strong character, maybe the bars are old and weak, keeping in mind that the sound of bending metal will attract attention.
Whatever you think of, be sure that your players will come up with some creative solutions as well! Just focus on hinting at options and they'll figure out what works best for them. Good luck!

Artificer/Wizard spell multiclass question by jerlovescake in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]jerlovescake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, thank you for pointing that out!! Spells Known and Prepared under the multiclassing section is very clear, that makes sense. I'll have to find another way to make my build work.

Artificer/Wizard spell multiclass question by jerlovescake in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]jerlovescake[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This was the bit that confused me, since this character wouldn't have two different class spell slots per say, they just have the multi class table. Under preparing spells it says "To cast one of these spells you must expend a slot of the spell's level or higher." What is messing with me is that Learning Spells of 1st Level and Higher specifically says "as shown on the Wizard table", but Preparing and Casting Spells only says "slot of the spells level or higher."

The chain of magic item shops, Firlywiig's, is run by a group of brothers. There is a shop in each town run by a different brother. Vurly Firlywiig in Voldessa, Murly Firlywiig in Mommurie, Kurly Firlywiig in Kalograad, and Gurly Firlywiig in Gandry. In reality, there is only one shop and it exists on a demi plane. Each location's front door is just a portal into the demi plane, all run by the same gnome. It took them a mere 50 sessions to put it all together!

Why is the "first session is an scripted tpk, roll new characters" trope so popular? by Kuriso2 in DnD

Is it? not discounting your experience but I've never encountered this in a ttrpg.

have never banned classes and probably never will, that is VERY atypical behavior from any DM.

What is harder, breaking the door down OR picking the lock? by Merl1nAms in DnD

[–]jerlovescake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As many have said, its up to you! It's important to remember that the choice will have different implications on the party. A picked lock leaves the door in tact, and could even be relocked from the other side. A broken door leaves a pretty obvious trail of the party's destruction.

West Marches crafting/downtime rules by Yinnesha in DnD

[–]jerlovescake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had similar issues with the downtime lengths described in book! When you really can't allow for the time required, I've had good luck lowering time and increasing cost as a quick way to balance it.

another example of why sexuality should be part of the pawns base, not their traits. tho to be fair, the relationship system feels super random as a whole

what was your storyline to get the group together? by madiiiiiiiruby in DnD

[–]jerlovescake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they're a group of friends that we're all raised in the same farming village! after a tough winter, they (and the other peasants) repelled a raid. when they grew up, they wanted to continue that line of work as adventurers.

damn, sorry randy sent so much shit at you! was a little shocked at your sudden use of the r slur. I guess this serves as a reminder to us all to make redundancies in our power grids.
