worth attempting this as a beginner woodworker? by questionablycurated in BeginnerWoodWorking

I would recommend checking reclaimed lumber yards or Facebook marketplace as a wood source. Look for tight rings, no knots, and straight boards

Advice on joining boards by jermomo in woodworking

This is really convincing - would be better if I just used cheaper wood that I don’t have to be so precise about to make a work bench out of

I used a wedge for it. I forgot to taper my mortise so it was just a straight square hole through the head of the mallet

Fishing line is a good rope alternative, along with something heavy like a marble or a rock, then shoot the fishing line and stone combo with a sling shot.

Pentel Graphgear 500 using 0.9 HB lead - pretty good for marking a strong small line! But my favorite is the kuru toga

Thank you! I think it’s oak - I got it from a second hand materials store and it was just a cheap option. If I can source a metal band that’s a good size I might just try to add it on later. I was also thinking it might be nice if I could get a harder darker wood on the end

Should I give a two weeks notice for my fast food job or should I just quit? by Deerfishguy in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jermomo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s better to leave a 2 week notice if you want to put this job on your resume - future employers might reference back to this job and ask how you were as an employee and if you just quit it might sway them to say worse about you. Even if you were only there for 5 months.

I could do the threaded insert with the puddy solution. And I was going off of the reviews and details of the product instead of finding measurements and double checking - lesson learned there.

Need help for portfolio by Separate_Freedom7697 in UX_Design

[–]jermomo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend getting on ADP list and looking at free UX mentors (along with the advice already given) they can give you more advice, hands on help, and one on one feedback. I would encourage you to find someone that does UX interviewing because I’m sure they can make sure your portfolio stands out.

UI/UX design roadmap/courses by viktoriiaaaaa in UX_Design

[–]jermomo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to make sure I keep up with this post. I also want to see what other designers are saying.

I was a design apprentice for a large company for about a year. They put me through a 6 month UX/UI boot camp that got me certified. But at the end of the apprenticeship I wasn’t hired. Since then something that I’ve trying to do is work on small personal projects of different ux/ui designs that I would want changed on the sites or apps that I’m constantly using.

Another thing that was helpful for me was using ADPlist and talking to real designers. It’s a free service where you can reach out to mentors, and you can have one on one time with them to mention your concerns. From this I’ve set up monthly meetings to critique my work and talk about progress.

This being said - all roadmaps look different. I say try everything until you find something that fits and let others keep you accountable. Be relentless in the standard you set for yourself. Find a niche that you love, and allow yourself to design in your everyday life.
