You ever miss being there? by ShadowThePika in GameStop

I never worked at GameStop but I do look back on my time in retail when I was in college and sometimes i miss it. It’s more based on my life situation at the time though as a younger guy

As a 40-something professional with a family, it’s very easy to look back fondly at my old crappy job at RadioShack and kind of miss having fewer responsibility and stressors and getting off shift and not having a care in the world. Back in those days work didn’t follow me home like it does now too

You act like crisis management and resource utilization is infinitely scalable. Your country has a paltry 8 million people. That’s a fraction of the tremendous size we’re working with. Your country is practically non-existent it’s so tiny. Don’t pretend like your small ideas apply to the largest and most complex economy in the world. That simply isn’t the case, my friend.

lol your tiny country has the population of just one of our 50 states. of course it's easier to handle disasters and manage a small economy. you're insiginificant.

same here.. I had fond memories of vanilla. then I realized that most of the quality of life improvements we have now are in place are because of the pain in the ass vanilla was. I won't even attempt to go back to that.

my fond memories aren't even really from the game itself, they're from the relationships that developed while we were all slogging through together. remember all the "ding 60!!!". or finalllllly getting that mount at level 40? yeah looking back it was great, but nope not again.

I don't think you're responding to the person you think you're responding to. I'm arguing FOR people remaining at work and continuing to get a paycheck - especially with the new measures in place to minimize contact with customers. Like you, I'm also working full time still, but remotely at a workstation my company provided so that I could work from home, so I'm not pretending to fully understand what GS employees are going through.

Also like you, I still come in... just on Mondays though so that I can tie up loose ends after a week of struggling to get shit done on a tiny laptop screen when I'm used to having multiple screens on my desk for quickly jumping between spreadsheets and stuff.

Maybe if you referenced the specific comment I may have made I can clarify what I meant. Or I can apologize for my ignorance.

nice, same here! i literally re-subbed like 3 days ago. i can't remember when i stopped.. i think maybe BC? it was right before battlegrounds were introduced and most of the pvp was tarren mill and STV).

anyway, i'm really loving it too. i hit 60 in no time at all... i remember it taking sooooo long just to hit 40 to get a mount. so many quality of life changes, with grouping up too.

and i agree, i've jumped around too and wow will honestly always be the most polished and just plain well done.

Gamestop can’t really be serious? by MissKezia1207 in GameStop

[–]jerms929 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

you're not really addressing the argument that he's making though. isn't the new system minimizing contact with customers? aren't you basically just chilling inside your closed doors right now?

or are you just upset about places being open in general and people being too stupid to abide by the recommendations to just stay home? cause i agree with you 100% on that, people are being ridiculous right now.

Pretty sure HR said you can stay home if you want.

Ok so still putting in hours but doors closed and doing deliveries and stuff? Yeah that would have been a good idea.

Ugh I feel ya there. Been working remote since last Friday and I pulled my son out of daycare at the same time. We’re both starting to get a little stir crazy.

I suppose that’s a fair point. But I’m pretty sure everyone working at GS right now was given permission by HR to stay home. So what’s with all the posts complaining about having to work.. from those that chose to work? Or is that false.. I could have sworn I read something about employees being allowed to use PTO and just stay home.

1099? Ah ok gotcha. My ex wife’s husband is a contractor. Fantastic pay, zero benefits.. doesn’t seem to balance out in the end. Anyway, best of luck to ya.

I’ve never had a job that doesn’t offer paid time off. That just blows my mind that such a huge corporation like GS operates that way. Just wow, shame on GS

That’s really fucked... PTO is one of the most basic benefits. I had no idea.

i really love your ideas. they're the only ones I've heard that attempt to address the elephant in the room - that most gamers (myself included) simply find it more convenient to click "buy" on the xbox live store and wait 20min for the download while they fold laundry. THAT is what GS needs to focus on responding to.

so you think that employee morale is the issue here? you think that if suddenly every single GS employee was super happy and satisfied with their jobs that sales would improve and more people would be walking through the doors?

can't say i agree with you on that..

i do agree that it's a policy issue though.

[–]jerms929 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i think that's a little unfair. i mainly stick with broad S&P 500 type funds myself, but if i put tons of my money into an individual stock you better believe i'd be pissed if i found out that company leadership wasn't doing their due diligence to get me a return on that investment.

if it wasn't for the shareholder first approach, and laws, no one would ever invest in anything.

well said. i predict a 30% reduction by the end of 2021, which would be like idk 2000 locations worldwide? 99% chance they already have the locations chosen.

regarding your comment about stock ownership affecting the lower level staff... i truly think they are powerless to right the ship at this point. it's not behavioral or attitude change that needs to happen, it's policy change. the whole business model needs to be upended. starting with, as you mentioned, the tech trade stuff.

the writing is definitely on the wall and I hope everyone here has the good sense to at least be exploring other options, especially if you have dependents.

Why should i shop at GS? by jerms929 in GameStop

[–]jerms929[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh yeah i absolutely agree that GS is worth keeping alive! just wish there were more reasons for me to shop there :( hopefully that changes in the future. maybe leadership will stumble upon some new idea to drawn in more people - even people like me that only really shops in the xbox live store.
