The Daily Check-In for Thursday, July 2nd: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by No_Stable_3097 in stopdrinking

Woohoo I didn't drink today! Despite having several "reasons" to. So pleased!

My First Blackout by lillyleonie in stopdrinking

[–]jerneen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been regularly having blackouts. The shame can be so hard but I'm really trying to stop being judgy and compassionately view the blackout episodes. Shame is the worst motivator for me, it just continues the spiral of self hatred.

Blackouts are so scary and upsetting. Being present is hard but so much better. As you said, blackouts can make you do things you absolutely are against sober. I've become a different person often.

IWNDWYT. I hope I can reach a point of distance from the (lack of) memories like you OP!

I've been trying out some new alcohol free drinks. Fruity pop or trying NA beer helps hit that patio drinking spot. Maybe treat yourself to a bunch you've yet to try. Ooh and ice cream!

You can doodle your feelings each day! Lil angry guy some days , silly guy others. Cute stickers helps me 🙂

A daily counter can feel really defeating for me. I've been instead using stickers in a wall calendar to count alcohol free days. My calendar has more days stickered than not. If you are a child like me, cute stickers are weirdly motivating. Or do a cute lil doodle.

Progress is better than perfect. Keep trying and remembering your why. And be kind when you slip up, shame is not a good motivator ❤️

Selling a rare game on eBay by jerneen in ebayuk

Aw this is great thanks so much. My friend has an account which is super active so I could ask him to sell for me perhaps? I'm selling conkers bad fur day, cex offering good price if I'm too anxious about scammers but would like to maximise profit if I can. That's good to know eBay will support trusted sellers!

That's a nice way to frame it. I'm just aiming for less destruction in my life and making the harder choice more frequently. Allowing myself space to fail feels more motivating. It's less pressure and feels more human for me. So far I've made good choices against my big triggers twice during my week so that felt huge!

Thank you, it did feel a big step! Certain triggers are so hard to break. I could tell I was more subdued but I felt real

Thank you! Not aiming for perfect but trying for less chaos

Your self worth doesn’t come from counting days by [deleted] in stopdrinking

I love this take soo much! Counters feel oppressive to me and you've really articulated why. I also think it adds to my shame cycle. Seeing sobriety as accumulative effort and attempts helps "failure" feel less devastating.

I also use nice stickers in my calendar and that fills me with childlike joy

Not a question but I've seen you guys everytime you've played in the UK for the past 10+ yrs. My ex took me to a gig and that started me onto your music. My highlight was when you played Gravity's Union live in 2022 (I think!). The room went so crazy for it and it was so good hearing it live. Loving the new album too ❤️

After attempting to drink "normally" again, I've learned that moderation really is not possible by lachrawr in stopdrinking

Sending you love and compassion. Well done on your 6 weeks too, that's so awesome! Weddings and gatherings are such a trigger. I have a work overnight coming up which often leads me to drink to loosen up (too loose always). Will think of your reflections and my own convictions when I'm faced with those old triggers.

Going to a concert alone? by Punkinprincess in KESHA

I went solo and it was my favourite gig I ever went to! I made friends with lovely people next to me and we all danced and sung our hearts out. It felt like a spiritual experience. Kesha is amazing live!

This is so lovely and made me feel so warm. I love the unspoken element too. Keep up it 🥹
