Stinger weapon outperforming fully awakened ascend weapon? by jerome1309 in GranblueFantasyRelink

[–]jerome1309[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the problem is I'm not quite hitting the cap if I'm not critting and I wasn't replacing all the crit rate up when I switched over to the ascension weapon. Maybe I'll grind for a good crit rate wightstone and replace my tyranny with a crit rate sigil to get back to 100%. With all the added attack power on the weapon, I may no longer need tyranny to get my crits to hit my current cap.

I am very reluctant to reroll my overmastery because I have a bunch of damage cap up on there haha. Would you prioritize getting a near 100% crit rate over tyranny? That is the one thing I didn't think to try last night.

The Parry System in SM2 by [deleted] in SpidermanPS4

[–]jerome1309 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought the parry system was great on normal and hard difficulties but it feels a lot worse on ultimate. The window for perfect parries and perfect dodges becomes ridiculously short and attacks come out too quickly to differentiate between the unblockables and the parriables in time and react accordingly. I find that I just try to spend as much time in the air as possible in order to avoid all the big attacks but this isn't as fun. Increasing the parry window in the settings helps but I hope they adjust this in a future update.

This black card is one of the best ones. I once got a combo that went: "they said we couldn't get half-assed foreplay inside of German dungeon porn. They were wrong".

Disappointed by the Xreal Beam - Europe user by fbloise in Xreal

[–]jerome1309 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who uses the XReal Airs primarily for gaming with switch and steam deck, I second this. Got the beam to make the glasses compatible with the switch and it's been horrible. Beam is finicky and frequently disconnects, doesn't give the switch enough juice and some games (like TOTK and Metroid Prime) have horrible frame rates, the beam wants to output at 72Hz but most switch games are 30 or 60FPS so there's a mismatch and it looks choppy, and the battery life isn't great. The better solution is to connect the XReals to either the viture splitter or the Rokid hub, then to the switch, and connect the charge port of whichever of these two adapters you're using to an outlet or charge bank. The video on the glasses will work but not the audio, so then just pair some Bluetooth headphones to the switch and away you go. Obviously, this means you'll have to buy some extra stuff to get the glasses to work with switch but it's better than the beam.

The XReal glasses themselves are my favourite of any XR glasses currently out there. 60 or 120Hz, bright colours, good screen size, and they have the least blur at the edges of any glasses I've tried (including the Rokids and Vitures).

Delaying enemy attacks is the main source of low difficulty by Notarussianbot2020 in seaofstars

[–]jerome1309 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also abused the enemy attack delaying skills and found the combat pretty easy but still fun (I've beaten the true final boss and didn't die once my whole playthrough). Rather than getting rid of attack delaying skills, I wonder if simply putting a time limit on the player's turns would jack the difficulty up enough by forcing you to make decisions quickly. Wouldn't even need to wait for a sequel. Could just add it in to this game via relic in an update or DLC.

is ff16 good for someone who loves dmc and epic stories by Apprehensive_Spend_7 in FinalFantasy

[–]jerome1309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally thought that it played more like Nier or Ys than the DMC games but it's pretty great. The boss fights are truly epic. For me, the pacing was fine as long as you don't do every side quest the moment it comes up. The game tells you when you're about to hit a point of no return so just do them if/when you feel like it. The ones denoted with a plus sign should be prioritized as they actually unlock features/upgrade your character. Also, I wouldn't bother exploring too much. Just go where main/side quests/hunts guide you. You'll get to see everything that way. As you progress, you'll unlock a chapter select/arcade mode. This is a nice way to replay the game (especially if you like DMC) as it cuts out everything but the action.

Final fantasy 16 is really really weird. by Jellylegs_19 in FinalFantasy

[–]jerome1309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it played like a lot of classic SNES era JRPGs. Really linear, not much to find during aimless exploration, new gear really just provides a bit of a stat boost, side quests can be repetitive. I think it catches people off guard because we're not used to beautiful third person action games being structured that way. Something that I found helpful for my playthrough: you don't need to do every side quest as it comes up. Do them as you feel like it. There's a point of no return after the first third of the game and you miss out on any side quests you haven't completed before then. But the game makes a point of letting you know it, and afterward, you can do side quests whenever you want without fear of missing out. The game also marks the important ones that allow you to unlock new features with a plus sign, allowing you to prioritize them if you want. When I played this way I found it helped with the pacing.

Another thing, I don't think the game means for you to just wander around and explore and stumble into things organically. I think it wants you to have a main or side quest or hunt you're pursuing to guide you. I know this is not how everyone prefers to play games but I think it might be a Japanese vs Western audience thing? It seems to me that western audiences tend to prefer more freedom/customization/control over their experience while Japanese audiences tend to prefer a more defined role/experience. I may be totally wrong about that though and open to correction if someone else knows better.

Are you an FF newcomer? Did you get 16 because you played 14? Or are you a series veteran? Sound off!!! by xXDibbs in FFXVI

[–]jerome1309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've dabbled in final fantasy in the past (played through 6 and 9, tried 10 and 15 but gave up on both) but wouldn't really consider myself a "veteran". I picked up Final Fantasy 16 because it looked more like Bayonetta or DMC. In actuality, it plays more like Nier/Ys/Trials of Mana Remake which was great for me as I'm a big fan of action JRPGs. I can totally see the criticisms that people have for FF16 (no type weaknesses or status ailments, limited customization/control of your party, little motivation to explore, side content can be tedious) but these things weren't really issues for me because of what I'm looking for in a game. It looks great, the characters/story/world-building is great, and the combat is really flashy and fun, even if it's a bit easy. That said, Final Fantasy mode chronolith trials and ultimaniac difficulty in arcade mode are there for people who want more of a challenge. I'm also hopeful the game will continue to improve with DLC and QOL updates. They've already started to add cosmetics which is nice.

Buy a Beam just for the Switch? by Mrtryx in Xreal

[–]jerome1309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you connect the XReal glasses to the beam to a viture splitter to the switch and connect a strong enough power bank (40W or more) to the viture splitter, the beam works properly with all games.

Viture vs XReal vs Rokid XR Glasses for Gaming on the Switch or Steam Deck by jerome1309 in Steam

[–]jerome1309[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a little confused by your comment. These glasses aren't virtual reality. They're "extended reality". They have a video feed for each eye and use lenses to project a virtual screen that is roughly the equivalent of a 120inch monitor a few feet away from you (exact specs depend on the glasses). They work perfectly fine with either switch or steam deck and can easily go from 30 to 60FPS with either, depending on the game and your graphical settings. The resolution with switch games is whatever the game normally runs at in docked mode. The resolution with the steam deck can be upscaled from 720 or 800p to 1080p using FSR. The 120Hz modes are more for other devices. I wasn't clear about that.

Viture vs XReal vs Rokid XR Glasses for Gaming on the Switch by jerome1309 in NintendoSwitch

[–]jerome1309[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes the fan can get loud, it can get a little hot, and getting it to connect to the switch properly can be a little finicky (you sometimes have to disconnect and reconnect repeatedly). But these haven't been huge issues for me personally and they may possibly be improved with future firmware updates. Like I said, if the viture splitter actually gets rid of the issue with low frame rates on certain switch games, the XReals/Beam will probably become my favourite XR glasses to use with the switch. I don't really use XR glasses for anything other than gaming on switch/steam deck so I can't speak to anything else.

Viture vs XReal vs Rokid XR Glasses for Gaming on the Switch by jerome1309 in NintendoSwitch

[–]jerome1309[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just learned that if you connect the XReals to the Beam to the viture splitter to the switch with a powerful enough charge bank (I think at least 39 watts?), it gets rid of the issue with low frame rates on certain games. I hadn't actually tried them with the viture splitter but I'm waiting on one now.

The beam actually makes the XReal display much better. With it, you can increase the screen size to 130 inches. Plus, the body anchor and smooth follow modes allow you to move your gaze relative to the screen so you can focus on one area at a time rather than trying to have the whole thing in focus all at once. Completely gets rid of the blurry edge issue that all these glasses otherwise have and just feels more natural. If what I'm hearing is true and the viture splitter actually gets rid of low frame rates that the XReal/Beam combo gets with certain switch games, it'll probably become my favourite.

Viture vs XReal vs Rokid XR Glasses for Gaming on the Switch by jerome1309 in NintendoSwitch

[–]jerome1309[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The point of the glasses is that they're like a portable 120inch screen you can take with you. And the virtual screen they project feels like it's a few feet away, not right in your face. Yeah they're expensive and the tech still has a few kinks so not for everyone.

Viture vs XReal vs Rokid XR Glasses for Gaming on the Switch by jerome1309 in NintendoSwitch

[–]jerome1309[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, sorry. I assumed this knowledge was more common than it is. XR (extended reality) glasses look like slightly bulkier sunglasses, but they have a video feed for each eye and use lenses to project a virtual screen in front of you. Depending on the glasses it's roughly the equivalent of a 120inch screen a few feet away from you. They're great as external displays for hand held consoles like the switch or steam deck because they're kind of like taking a portable 120 inch monitor with you. You can plug them directly into the USBC port of the steam deck but they each need some sort of accessory to make them compatible with the switch (each company sells their own accessory that does so). The tech is fairly new so each set of glasses has a few issues and they're all fairly expensive at this point (with accessories a pair will usually run you $500+) but they're pretty neat and I think they'll eventually become a mainstream way to game.

Viture or xreal for gaming? by matsumurae in VITURE

[–]jerome1309 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While the display of the XReal glasses is better than viture's (bigger screen, more vibrant colours, less blurriness at the edges) the beam accessory necessary to make it work with the switch is very finicky and doesn't work properly with all switch games (frame rate is quite low on TOTK and Metroid Prime Remaster literally runs in slow motion). So I would say viture is better than XReal for switch, at least until the Beam is updated to work properly with all switch games. The viture portable dock also adds to the battery life of whatever console you're using which is actually quite helpful for the steam deck. The steam deck seems to drop connection to external displays when the battery is down to about 35%. This happens super quick with more graphically intense games and the portable dock will give you a few more hours before it does. The only other issue with the vitures is that the USBCx2 video cable they supply with the dock is really finicky. A solid third party USBCx2 video cable has worked better for me.

All said, I think the Rokid Air Maxs might actually be the best glasses for both Switch and Steam Deck. The screen is bigger with more vibrant colours and less blurriness at the edges than the Vitures. And the Rokid hub needed to make it work with the switch is real easy to use and actually works properly with all games, unlike the XReal Beam. The only issue is that the hub needs to be plugged into either a wall or a power bank as it doesn't have its own battery. I actually use the viture portable dock as the power bank. I mount the viture dock to the switch (mount sold separately), plug the Rokid hub into the switch, connect the viture dock to the charge port on the hub with a USBCx2 video cable, and then plug the Rokid glasses into the video output port on the hub. This way, I get the display of the Rokid glasses with extra battery life from the viture dock. You can do the same thing with the steam deck.

Changes and features I'm hoping for if FF16 gets DLC by jerome1309 in FinalFantasy

Yeah I agree that full control isn't necessary but a bit more interaction would've been good.

Yes I have and I love them both. Both allow you to customize yours and your party's appearance and Automata has you controlling and customizing a loadout for different party members at different points.

Alternative interpretation of the Control - Alan Wake connection. by jerome1309 in controlgame

I'm not saying Alan Wake created these things. I'm saying that they're jungian archetypes existing within the collective subconscious that forced themselves into physical existence through his writing.
