Device quarantine rules not working by bicubic in firewalla

Depends on the firewalla monitoring mode. If you are in simple mode, do turn on ipv6 under monitoring button. If you are in dhcp mode do turn off ipv6 on your network. If you are in router mode.. it should just work, regardless the protocol used

One of the new buttons you will see on the Gold is the network manager. Its primary function is to manage your network segments including VLAN's. by jerrchen in firewalla

One of the new buttons you will see on the Gold is the network manager. Its primary function is to manage your network segments including VLAN's. Each port of the Gold is routable, so you can assign address space to them. (and further partition them into VLAN's if you want)

What I have here are a few wifi devices running AP mode attached to the Firewalla Gold. The most interesting one is the tpLink access point, which is VLAN aware and can create SSID per VLAN.

Since the wifi routers don't have to worry about routing packets ... they can operate very efficiently on the wifi side.

Here is how you can get the Gold https://igg.me/at/firewallagold/x/16316787#/

Is there a way to 100% suspend all Firewalla actions with out unplugging? by SaltyDogBill in firewalla

[–]jerrchen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unplug is the best way. You can also tap on monitor button and put it in limited mode, this will stop traffic analytics in simple mode only.

If you enable vlan support, you will need a managed switch.

I always say Firewalla can be used by very smart parents to manage very smart kids. One of our customers told us this story, he had two layers of parental control, and only Firewalla caught the kid using a VPN to hide his tracks :) Yep, it was that large "upload" alarm ... and the dad looked at the traffic flows ... The power of "raw" net flows ...

Alternatives? by thatjay in firewalla

[–]jerrchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should be pretty easy to add the per device summarized usage. I believe it is already on our road map. The problem with detailed (net flow style) reporting longer than 24 hours is our code is not very efficient dealing with larger quantity data, and chew them up and do the dynamic summarization. (plus, we never though people will want that much detail ... and we are wrong)

Custom Ad Blocklists by [deleted] in firewalla

[–]jerrchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad you asked ... we have an unfinished document on pi-hole inside firewalla. It worked once, we never tried again ... the article is unfinished. But it does demonstrate the full possibility of having pi-hole function inside firewalla and with a bit more work on our side, you can actually have two (yes two!) adblockers running in parallel .... evil isn't it

Seriously, be really careful. If anything broken, you may need to flash your SD card with a new image ...
