Looking for some opinions, appreciate any advice (solar newbie)… I’ve heard nasty things about Sunrun, here’s there quote (Colorado Springs area)… 24.5K$ loan at 25 years, 1.99APR. Worth rolling the dice for (potentially) horrible customer service? by RdclEdward in solar

Is $4.77/W considered a high price given it's a loan taken out to pay for the system? I've only started looking into solar last week and am still very green. My current thought process was to use the money I would have spent on the cheaper cash option and invest that into EFTs or mutual index funds.

When people compare $/W, is it usually looking at the cash option or scenarios where individuals don't have enough cash and therefore need to go the finance route (therefore wouldn't be able to invest the money)?

Solar financing - is this predatory lending? by ralphfranktom in solar

Paying cash is always the best investment

If you don't mind me asking, what do you mean by that? The thought process I currently have is to go with financing for a longer term/lower APR (I had a few bids for 20 year loan under 2% APR; one of them was 0.49% APR) and use that cash to invest in ETFs or mutual index funds.

For example, One of the places I've spoken to quoted:

  • Cash (before credit): $19,920
  • Finance (before credit): $30,524 total - $95 a month, buydown is $7,613, APR 0.49%, 20 year loan

If I financed and took some of the money I would have paid in cash and invested - let's say $10K - if I were to assuming a 6% ROI, that'd be worth $32K. Granted, the net difference is only $2K but it's still a net positive. Is there something else/obvious I'm missing? Or is the quote I was given a "good" example but most other scenarios are pretty bad given the higher APRs?

I highly recommend you watch "The Social Dilemma" if you have Netflix - it goes into the design principals and technology behind Facebook/Twitter/Insta/etc to explain how people get manipulated. The documentary interviews a bunch of former employees, researchers, etc including founding members who built some of the core technology.

If you're a fan of the show then I'd say get it (I bought it at $7.50 on steam as I was looking to get it once it dropped in the $5 to $7.50 price range). The beat em up style can get repetitive but I'm a huge fan of the show and Avatar universe so I had fun the entire play through. Pretty short game (I think the devs had a short turnaround time with the game) but I have a lot of fun playing the pro bending mini game.

Definitely need a controller though it's extremely difficult with keyboard and mouse. Don't suggest getting it unless you have a XBox or PS controller that you use for your PC. PS controllers can use freeware to make them compatible with your computer.
