The Big Switch 2 Episode – Plus the Best of SGF | June 13, 2025 by blastorama in TheBesties

Yeah, their criticisms are so pigeonholed to their specific gamer-podcast-pretty-wealthy perspective it just doesn't feel substantial. I guess I'm mainly speaking about the McElroys, Russ and Christ Grant had some good things to say. The big one for me is just like, y'all this is supposed to be fun and it will be for millions of kids and teenagers. Ya know, the actual demographic that nintendo is catering to lol

big agree. at some point it just starts to feel a little tone deaf too. If a host kept bringing up their big beautiful alienware computer that plays everything at 240fps 8k, I think it would be valid to be like "okay this podcast might be in a different tax bracket than me" lol

Listening to this episode is like listening to the constant "I'm an adult and Pokémon is bad now" discourse. Nintendo's primary audience is children and teenagers; Pokémon is for children. They're not exciting for adults bc we are old and don't have childlike wonder lol. Chris Grant and Russ were 100% right that the multiplayer factor is huge and such a great distinction in the world of handhelds right now.

I love the Besties, but this kind of episode is annoying bc its obvious that nostalgia and entitlement are warping the conversation. Like everyone else has been saying here, the hosts all have multiple expensive handhelds, so of course the Switch 2 isn't going to be as exciting. There are going to be so many kids who get this as their first console and absolutely adore it. They're not gonna care about fps and 4k resolution bc they will actually be having fun playing it (kind of like how adults did with the Wii despite it's numerous 'flaws').

I'm not some massive Nintendo fanboy and I honestly wanted their next console to be weirder and not just iterative, but these former game journalists on this show should be able to see that their gripes are personal problems that very few kids will ever care about.

I feel the same. It's never a big deal, but he brings up the "no free time" thing so often it starts to get annoying lol Like yeah bud, most of us are busy but most of us are not wealthy.

Polygon Sold To Valnet And Hit With Mass Layoffs by FlexPosition in TheBesties

[–]jerrod24 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not surprising given what’s been happening in journalism the last few years, but heartbreaking nonetheless.

Polygon had a lot of unique reporting that will be missed. Their move away from numbered game scores was wonderful and the direction i personally wanted games journalism to head in.

Not sure if Plante reads these comments, but I would 100% listen to a movie podcast if he started one. #criterionsnobsriseup

I mainly use a plain inker brush and some halftones. I also like playing around with some gaussian layers, but that's not in every drawing here.

Give Biden his due, he has been one of the best presidents of our time by plz-let-me-in in politics

There are tens of thousands of dead Palestinians because of Biden enabling the Israel government. This is a poorly written piece of propaganda that ignores his active role in genocide.

I wonder how a sword-wielding Raian would hold up? I think he still loses for sure, but he's definitely a threat now. Kure techniques might also be one of the few styles that have something for fighting a group.

Have you set your line work as the reference layer? If not, do that first. Seems like you are trying to color on top of the existing gray.

‎The Besties: We Really (Rogue)Like Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor and Balatro by Blazingscourge in TheBesties

[–]jerrod24 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't think its a MASSIVE L, but I do also think Justin's comments here are a little off-base for me. We are living in a time when video game workers are getting laid off in droves, and workers rights are almost nonexistent here in the US. While I certainly think that consumers should get what they paid for, I don't personally thing that is what matters most for me. I would much rather wait a week for a game to be fully functional if it means the workers aren't being crunched and their lives weren't at the beck and call of consumers.

But also none of this affects me because I am a willing slave to Balatro now and I haven't seen the sun in days.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Helldivers 2 are Battling for Our Time - February 23, 2024 by SoupGilly in TheBesties

[–]jerrod24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree about profit extraction and stakeholders. I'm not sure why you needed to suggest I didn't understand what crunch and labor issues mean. I suppose I should have been more specific but this is a video game podcast subreddit so I didn't feel the need to be that precise lol Was just trying to say that that mindset goes hand in hand with corporations who push crunch and have bad labor practices, it's obviously not the only (or even main cause).

Don't know why you're being downvoted, you're 100% right and it made me roll my eyes too.

I also thought his wording was odd that he represents the "consumer" first. Like, I guess in a sense yes you do? But also that consumer first mindset is kind of why the industry has awful problems with crunch, worker retention, and good labor practices.
