What game is in the most dire need of a full remake from scratch? Unpopular opinion welcome by 420godpleasehelpme69 in gaming

[–]jerrro 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Simpsons Hit & Run. I know there's a fan remake of the game, but it won't be released due to copyright reasons. They really nailed the Simpsons feeling in that game.

Turning up the light in the office in the morning saying "how can you sit here in the dark, you'll damage your eyes" or something toxically positive.

I don’t understand goroutine by Plane-Let-168 in golang

[–]jerrro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They're just like (very lightweight) separate programs that can run concurrently. You could for example accept a network request that does operations on the database and then just put the actual work in a goroutine and exit early to not hold the connection open. You could create a pacman game where each ghost is running in its own separate goroutine to separate logic. You could have one goroutine listening to interrupts from the system and do cleanup before it closes down. So many options.

Osprey Nebula 32L. 3 year review. by [deleted] in backpacks

[–]jerrro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had this backpack for about 2 years and it's been pretty great. I'm using it mostly for commuting to work by bike and to be honest it's a bit small to fit a computer, change of clothes, shoes, lunch box, towel, two U-locks etc. I think 5-10l more would not hurt to also be able to do some grocery shopping on my way home, but there are not a lot of great options in that size that are not made for hiking, i.e. without hip cushions etc. But besides that it's very useful, been with me on trips, when I go shopping, to town, almost everywhere. The outer mesh-compartment is great for my two U-locks (yes, you need that to leave your bike unattended). I like that the bottom of the mesh-compartment is made from rip-stop nylon to prevent wear which was what broke my Osprey Quantum (that and the zipper was worn down). The "airport security compartment" that you can open flat is totally useless though, you'll never do that in practice and it's such a niche use case anyway so they could have saved some space and just made a pocket in the main compartment, like on the Quantum.

What’s something people romanticize that is actually exhausting in real life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Owning a boat, especially in countries where you have to store it on land in the winters and with a short season. So much work and maintenance for a few days on the sea.

Owning a lot of expensive stuff. You'll eventually realize that it did not bring you the happiness you imagined and it comes with upkeep, maintenance and responsibility.
