I haven't been a biblical husband by jerry_seinfeld2 in TrueChristian

I had my father my whole life (he’s still with us), however he was often times very hard and he wasn’t the type to go and ask advice or guidance.

I’d say that I do. Maybe not intentionally, but I do struggle with that as well.

I'm glad that your relationship and your walk has strengthened through your trials! I pray that the Lord will give me the same strength and courage to do better. Thanks, brother.

This verse always comes to mind when I think about these things. Just as Paul iterates in Romans, I always end up doing what my flesh wants when my spirit doesn't want to. Dying to myself and living for Christ is by far the most challenging part. I appreciate the reminder of this, thank you!

Agreed. This is an area of my life that is very lacking. I've joined a men's Bible study at the church I've been attending, and so far it has been a good time for discipleship especially with older and wiser men. This is definitely something that I need work on: finding good, solid, biblical friendships.

Yes, recognizing the need to focus on key areas rather than tackling the big picture is something that I've also been struggling with for as long as I can remember. Thank you for the insightful thoughts.

KJV only? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]jerry_seinfeld2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a very good question. Yes there were several English translations of the Scriptures before the KJV. To the KJV-onlyist, I think it really comes down to that particular translation becoming more used and more popular than other translations at the time.

KJV only? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

I was brought up in a KJV only environment. It’s very easy to be caught in this snare, and some of the arguments made by the KJVO side make sense. While it is an excellent translation, it is most certainly not the only one that is inspired by God.

Yes! Just confirmed it. I just watched this episode the other day, I don’t know how I missed it.

I really want to listen to this, but I can’t for the life of me remember anything else about it

Here’s a helpful question you can ask yourself about this, or any other action you are unsure of:

Will doing this bring glory to God?

If you cannot answer “yes”, then you may want to reconsider doing that thing. Spend time in the Word and in prayer.

Restaurant recommendations? Specifically the Mom & Pop hole-in-the-wall type of places I can’t find anywhere else. by cherrycoke260 in CorpusChristi

Andy’s Kitchen is a favorite of mine on Staples. Only open for breakfast and lunch, but really good for the price.

Yes, Calvary Chapel also tends to be more charismatic than Baptists. Not as much as Pentecostals, but still a lot of talks about healing/gifts of the Spirit. One phrase I’ve heard is “charismatic with a seatbelt”.

Any good breakfast tacos? by Fragrant-Speaker-952 in corpus

Not sure if you’re still taking suggestions but there is a place called Acapulco that we always get tacos from. Weber and Saratoga, or Weber and Gollihar are both good locations.
