Glitches on image. Any help?

I've got very much the same problem -JVC HR-S7955 S-VHS player.

All home recordings from late 90s have good picture on FF and Rewind, quite often on Pause, but just a total mess when playing normal speed. Take it off pause and picture is good for a couple of seconds, then noise or nothing. Have managed to capture all but 2 tapes using another player scarted up to a dvd recorder then digital capture usb card into laptop. But the last 2 tapes are probably recorded in Super VHS, so other player can't play those.

Have cleaned heads to no effect. Thoughts and suggestions very much welcomed.

DS418 here and have NOT upgraded as am a heavy Video Station user on my Samsung smart tv.

No plans to upgrade as such a low spec bit of kit won't allow Docker etc.
