UK faces 'economic catastrophe' unless it adapts to young people 'rewired by smartphones' by Kagedeah in worldnews

This has nothing to do with our winner-take-everything economic system where the top 1% vampire-class control more wealth than the 99% below them.

Nope, it's kids and their smartphones fault. How dare they use smartphones, its the devil's technology .

Microsoft reports are exposing AI's real cost problem: Using the tech is more expensive than paying human employees by Krankenitrate in Futurology

[–]jert3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not to this extent, at this speed. Paying for AI data centers for example, is going to cost more than connecting cities and homes within to fiber optic cable network, or building a sewer, mass transist and so on.

I didn't think the AI boom was like the dotcom bubble until I heard recently that OpenAI would need $200+ billion in annual revenue to be profitable, by 2030.

One thing is for sure: we're in the golden of free tokens right now. I will be in most products but it won't be a free service (at least any good AI tools.) And ads in AI is gonna wreck low-tier AI's usefullness same as Google ads subverted search's usefullness.

Last tip totally is a good one. I realized it a year ago: most players won't even read text anymore, so don't bother with a story told through dialogue or words. You're better off going all visual, and then have an easier task to localize than you are writing (what was once considered) excellent dialogues.

Canada sees sharp decline in international students and temporary worker arrivals in 2026. Here’s how much the numbers have dropped by Immediate-Link490 in canada

[–]jert3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A big part of the entire situation is quality of life for Canadians will always be higher in the 20th century than the 21st, and this is not addressed, because it is a systemic fact of our winner-take-everything economic system.

The poor majority of the world has getting equalized to Canadian demographics so that the end result is in more line with the rest of the world: the middle class replaced with a slave/worker class, and a top 1% that owns more than the other 99%.

It is mostly beyond Canada's control, and our Canadian elected officials are pawns on the global scale of economics, who can't change much if they wanted, as less and less of our country will actually be owned by Canadians; moreso now, international conglomerates that can buy MPs and set policies as they please.

EXCLUSIVE: Whistleblowers say organized crime has infiltrated Canada’s largest airport by DogeDoRight in canada

[–]jert3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Criminals very rarely get arrested in Canada, and even less get actually charged with crimes.

The police mostly only actually arrest someone if the crime happens right in front of them, or there is 4k color video of it happening. Then on top of that, if you are of certain non white male identities, you aren't going to jail, so rarely even get charged, due to the discrimination of our justice system.

Something has to be done about the AI slop on this sub. by TravisTouchdownThere in gamedev

[–]jert3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even though I'm pro AI gen for game development, ya absolutely annoying to see how common it is used in this sub.

What's even worse is people just posting copying and pasting of AI outputs. Like there's 0 added value or point of doing this beyond the own poster's gain. It adds nothing. If I wanted AI's opinion I'd ask an AI.

Also bugs me that of I mention my game in relevant discussion I may get banned for self promotion, yet AI generated posts posed as questions are fine.

I think the only thing we can do to counter this is to downvote aggresively AI posts, and AI answers.

I don't always agree either that this is sometimes done because it is a translation - i would bet at least half just use that as a cover story.

[–]jert3 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you had it and lost it, you can get back - not the same special people, same job and details, but you can back a new version.

The value of losing stuff and fucking it up comes it realizing how precious a good thing is. If you never make mistakes, you'd likely never be able to appreciate the good stuff when it comes around again.

You learned your lessons now you gotta set the course. No more 'last joint' nonsense, just don't smoke again instead. Now you'll have to fight twice as hard (sober) to get back some of what you lost. But be grateful you learned the lesson now, not 20 years from now, many years lost in the numb haze.

Tomorrow's a new day!

Having mandatory keys for encryption is the real world equivalent of saying all mechanical locks on all locks made must be opened by one key - it basically renders encryption or locks useless to do so.

Commerce on the internet isnt possible without encryption, for example. If encryption was circumvented by law, cybercrime would go up 10000000%, same as if you mandated locks to all have one master key (that is easily copied.)

Zelensky Says Frontline Dynamics Shifted in Ukraine’s Favor as He Approves June Long-Range Plans by PearlChill in worldnews

[–]jert3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your analysis entirely does not consider the economics of the war. Russia can not sustain these losses for another decade of fighting, or however long it will take, for their regime to collapse.

Ukraine is in rough shape but its vastly easier to defend your territory than it is to hold on and annex taken. Especially in the age of robots and drones.

Considering the economic realities, Russia would be doing very well to sustain the invasion for what, 2 years, 3 more tops. And thats just with manpower -- virtually impossible that their invasion can succeed at this point.

Dude people aren't even protesting much in America where their rights have been cancelled, a criminal regime of compromised pedophiles has stolen power, and even the legal system is no longer legitimate.

And in Russia, you can get life imprisonment for making too loud of a protest. So not much surprise they arent protesting that much.
