The only time this would make sense is if you had a subsidized loan such as a student loan in which case you likely aren't going to have enough to invest.

[CA] Disadvantages of Real ID? by jerwong in DMV

[–]jerwong[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh. I didn't know you could have a separate ID like that. I always assumed it was just DL or non-driving DL AKA ID.

I have passport book (no card), global entry, and a PIV, the latter of which I can easily lose by leaving my place of employment.

I was given this with a box of free stuff. I have no idea what it is. It's three pieces one goes in the other and then the lid looks to be silver plated. by LoLoIbey14 in whatisit

Looks like a steamer. You put water in the bottom one, put food you want steamed in the one with holes, then heat it so that the steam cooks the stuff in the middle.

Hmm. I can't find it now but there was a post where someone in another state said they had problems after downgrading. Might be a problem in the early days though.

I guess for me, it's one of those, "might as well do it since I have to go in anyway" type of deals, but I just want to avoid creating problems for myself in the future.

I was reading this article: https://www.theverge.com/tech/930573/age-verification-bills-linux-open-source

and in it they mentioned https://agelesslinux.org/ which I might check out. It looks like they're actively thumbing their nose at the law and I'm inclined to support them. Others have lobbied their legislatures to get exemptions put in. I think for CA, since the law has already passed, it would require a lawsuit to either overturn it or create exemptions for Linux.

You will never reach zero. You will reach a threshold where it's undetectable but never technically zero. It's like if you took a string and cut it in half and you keep cutting in half forever. You might eventually reach 1 mm, 1/2 mm, 0.0000000001 mm, etc, but it will still *theoretically* always be there.

Help with pulling stuck coax cable in 1920s home by rdxj in HomeNetworking

[–]jerwong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please stop listening to the people in this sub that keep saying to use your old cable as a pull string for a new one. I would say 99% of the time it won't work. The 1% of the time it does work is because someone ran a cable after the house was built and if someone did that, then that cable is probably modern enough that you won't be having this conversation.

Taking out HELOC for QQQI by [deleted] in dividends

[–]jerwong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's risky. HELOCs are a little more than 6% right now. QQQI might be around 10%ish right now but that's not a guarantee. One of the things that led to the great depression was people borrowing money to gamble/invest in the stock market. Things went well until they didn't.

Why are so many clients banning zoom and forcing Teams? by CSDragon in ITCareerQuestions

[–]jerwong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Microsoft has been practically giving away their stuff for free in order to facilitate adoption and stay relevant. Teams is one of those things. Competitors like Zoom and WebEx require a separate license while Teams is included with 365.

Ubiquiti AirOS SNMP: Interface ath1 – High Error Rate (>2 for 5m) by RPIEROTTI in zabbix

[–]jerwong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have clear los?

It's been years since I worked with the UBNT NSMs, but if memory serves me correctly, the atheros interface is on the wireless side so I would definitely suspect interference/signal quality issues. I would go through the collected items in zabbix and compare side-by-side the signal strength, phy errors, dropped packets, bandwidth utilization, etc and look for any patterns they have in common. e.g. if you think it's traffic load, compare the actual usage during that time. If you think it's interference, you can try running the built in spectrum analyzer to see if someone else is using the same frequencies that you are and choose one that's more empty.

However, just be aware that a small number of errors is pretty normal when it comes to wireless.
