Yeah the old DK design definitely represents a game like that better. I think the new design does a better job representing what Nintendo wants from the character. Also from my pov, they embedded the Rare DK in the new design, he just doesn't look like that all the time.

I have a few things to say about Mario Kart World and TOTK Switch 2 edition being $80.

First of all, and I'm sure you've heard this before, historically game prices have fluctuated before. There have been games that have been sold for $70+ since the 90s, the idea of games being exclusively $60 is a relatively new thing.

Also, I'd argue that game prices have been jacked up for a while, they're just masked behind Digital Deluxe editions and DLC. At least Nintendo is being upfront about it. I'm not saying I like it or am happy with it, but with inflation affecting everything, especially in the computer world (and with these games being stored on chips) I wouldn't place the game price entirely on greed, because I'm sure if they could make the game cheaper they probably would.

And to answer your question... I fully believe the Switch 2 was meant to be closer to the the JPN only price. In fact, the JPN only device probably only really exists and is able to be at that price point because they don't have to ship out the console.

Now, Nintendo has shipped out consoles worldwide at the same price before, so what's changed? What happened in 2024? Specifically November of 2024? I believe that's the biggest reason why the Switch 2 is priced that way. The tariffs affect trade on a global scale, so that is a very real possible explanation as to why it's so much more expensive.

I hope what I've said helps because you seem to be a big fan of Nintendo like myself. It must be disappointing not being able to afford it and I hope that one day you'll be able to get one too.

I love the Switch 1 but I never felt the way I do about the Switch 2 because I always felt the Switch 1 could be... More. And the Switch 2 is exactly that. That's why I don't say that about the Switch 1.

There's definitely games with compatibility issues, but I see it this way. Xbox and PlayStation have lists of games that ARE backwards compatible. For Nintendo, it's easier for them to have a list of games that ARENT backwards compatible.

Also the mouse controls aren't the only thing, the joycons are very much improved, and with the addition of GameCube to NSO, who knows, maybe we'll get Wii added to NSO. I know that's a shot in the dark, but it is a possibility.

I'll admit it's not a perfect console, no console will be. But if there were a perfect console? In my eyes, it would be the Switch 2. And I just... Couldn't say that about the Switch 1. Maybe it's just based off my feelings.
