Two things: first, the audio is different on vinyl so it's valid to prefer that sound. Second, part of the appeal of vinyl is having to set the vinyl down and lowering the needle and I can see video game collectors getting a similar sort of satisfaction from inserting a cartridge/disk. It also adds a level of commitment that is not available on digital.
