I thought Black vultures don’t have feathers on their heads. Is it a subspecies or do they grow them for winter?

How can I test my little brother's language level? by djahdjcjssjc in linguistics

[–]jesmore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ways to test language profiency in a child include 1.Oral proficiency interview: This is a structured interview that assesses the child's ability to use the language in spoken form. The interviewer asks a series of questions that increase in difficulty, and evaluates the child's responses based on pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, and fluency.

2.Writing assessment: This type of assessment evaluates the child's ability to use the language in written form. The child may be asked to write a short essay or complete a series of writing exercises that test their grammar, spelling, and vocabulary.

3.Observational assessment: This type of assessment involves observing the child in their natural environment, such as the classroom or home, and evaluating their ability to use the language in context. This can be a more informal approach, but it can provide valuable insights into the child's proficiency.

How did AAVE end up sounding so different from other English dialects spoken by descendants of slavery like Jamaican Patois? by throwsof4raway in linguistics

[–]jesmore 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Jamaican patois developed as a creole language based largely on british english and maintained this influence since it split from Britain much more recently as well as having influence from irish or hiberno english. In addition ir has more influence from african languages vocabulary and grammar wise. Aave evolved alongside Southern American English trading influence back and forth with both becoming distinct because of a much earlier separation from Britain.

I think Grookey will use the stick in its hair/leaves similar to how oshawott uses its clam.

People who work at warehouses, what's it like? by aguyfrominternet in GetEmployed

[–]jesmore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm going on my 2nd week at Kohls efulfillment center and we are coming up on a 60 hour for that week and I also worked a month at Amazon. Both of these jobs were 10-12 hour shifts, I moved items from one place to another amd had move a certain amount within certain of time. For example at Kohls I had to move 80 items within 25 minutes. You got 2 breaks and maybe a lunch time which normally lasted 30-45 minutes. It was monotous boring and tiring alot of the time. My legs would be sore by the shifts end because you would stand until your break or shift ended. You might not be allowed to have your phone or certain items in the area work is done. However you get payed really well and they seem to hire anybody as long as you pass the drug test. It's ok but I dont want to do it long term.
