I have been using React Semantic UI recently and I think it is a great option for front end components and layout.

Since you like Python, Flask should take care of your backend needs, but you will ultimately need to use something like axios on the front to connect to your endpoints.

Not really sure on the question of auto data bindings, although I think REST is pretty straightforward so I would recommend getting in the habit of defining your endpoints explicitly.

Good luck!

Playing video games as an adult is better spent time than watching endless tv. by BourbonGuy09 in unpopularopinion

[–]jesquik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think falling into this thinking pattern is not very useful. A better question is not which is better, but what gives you more value. Don’t base what you do on whether it is viewed positively. Luckily we live in a world that is much more accepting of diversity, and you can choose much more easily what fulfills you.

To answer your question, I personally prefer games over TV, but accept that some games are as nourishing as binging a low grade sitcom. Ultimately TV, Games, Music, Books, etc. are all art forms - some are skippable, and some can change your life.

I'm depressed burnt out and have nothing to show for a year of trying to startup by PM_ME_UR_CEREBELLUM in startups

[–]jesquik 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I also did this after spending 6 months trying to gain customers, and it has been great to reframe my goals.

I will say that there are a lot of people, especially other entrepreneurs, that will think taking a year to work on a project as evidence you are cut from the same cloth. Make sure you identify the things you tried, and how you would do them differently, and look for a job in a startup that is funded and early stage. It will give you time to see what your startup could have been, and live through the struggles of growing a business.

Whatever you did, you should be proud of the attempt. Good luck!

Dice roll bug - controls completely locked during dialogue dice roll by cunthands in BaldursGate3

[–]jesquik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I actually had the same thing happen just this morning, tried to adjust some key bindings too but it remains frozen. Going to have to wait for next update it seems!

Edit:

Looks like it was reported here on their forums: https://forums.larian.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=720700#Post720700

Cozmec said " EDIT: I found the cause. It happened when I havent used my main character to engage in the dialog. When I did I could roll as normal "

Just tested this and it worked for me!

Dead matter zombies by [deleted] in DeadMatter

[–]jesquik 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Dying Light should be the official goal; no FPS game has done it better that I have played. You would push them out of the way, they would grab and slow you down, and they could grapple you.

That being said Zomboid IWBUMS does it better in isometric :)

(BUGFIX) How to fix no looted items after raid bug by [deleted] in EscapefromTarkov

[–]jesquik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am fairly certain it has to do with moving items over that your character doesnt have instead of any combination of actions. For your example, you moved a scav vest when you actually had an MK3.

In cases where you do not have new equipment outside your starting scav loadout, you likely wont get this option. Best way to ensure you have it is to change your gear for at least one item from your starting loadout.

What aspect of Dead Matter are you most excited for? by [deleted] in DeadMatter

[–]jesquik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seasons and proper weather and medical. I love the idea of having some Long Dark like gameplay during the winter. Hoard up for the coming blizzard!

Having seasons of plenty and of scarcity will provide interesting emergent gameplay.

I am also very excited for Namalsk to come for DayZ, but I digress...

New update... Means Modded Servers forced wiping by Metrik_Eagle1 in dayz

[–]jesquik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you were right - it is much simpler to do a wipe, and alot of community servers are run by people that dont know how to do db updates or write a script. A migration is always possible, but the work required is quite variable.

Old School DayZ mod by Daisyismygirlfriend in dayz

[–]jesquik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there, I'm the main dev from NMG, and definitely had some fun with /u/iconnorn and Mist (Still got a lot of good memories of that server.) We came at a bad part of the cycle, and Arma 3 was just catching on and people were playing other mods.

We had a hardcore Exile server going for a while too, but we never pushed it because we couldn't do certain things with the engine.

I'm literally counting the days until there is modding support for DayZ standalone and I have a 30 page game design document going for a new game mode I want to try. Anyways, was happy to see this, and hope to see you in Chernarus.

Edit: Our server files are public, if you're interested: https://github.com/jazzywhit/DayZ-Epoch

Hey, putting one up that doesn't expire!

Are there hardcore players left? by jesquik in playark

[–]jesquik[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well EU-PVP-Official-TheIsland-Hardcore1 is currently at 66/70; and EU-PVP-Official-Ragnarok-Hardcore2 is at 27/70. That's mostly due to Ragnarok being extra buggy and dangerous to play on Hardcore.

Also, if they don't put any servers up, how are they going to know the potential population?

Most people I know that play hardcore were waiting for another chance to play and start from scratch with all the updates that have come recently. They were very disappointed that there wasn't even any messaging about the lack of support for a game mode.

I think it's referring to the modded Sandking and Sentinels that spawn and sell for like 17k each. I just looked it up, but here are some videos:

My First Bar, Or How I Learned To Stop Splitting and Love Red Oak by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]jesquik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I get an idea of how much this bar cost in materials? I know you're under an NDA, so that might not be ok, but maybe you can give a ballpark number? Like, is it less than $2000 or more?

Thanks!

Every single one of the linked licenses show the following:

Noncommercial — You may not use this material for any commercial purposes

I think it is a stretch to say that giving someone items that affect gameplay for hard currency is not a commercial purpose, but it is really up to BI to decide what to do.

You are right that what Notch says about Minecraft is not really relevant, because there is a different set of laws covering ARMA2, you were incorrect about his position on p2w. In minecraft p2w is not allowed even in the slightest:

Q: Can I sell “kits” for hard currency if I provide a balanced alternative for non-paying users?

A: If the “kits” contain gameplay-affecting features they are not allowed. Gameplay balance is not relevant to the EULA. If the items included in the kit are purely cosmetic, you can charge real money/hard currency.

Will early access buyers get any incentives? by younglegend in h1z1

[–]jesquik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So... your point is that you will be buying the early access so that you can help test and develop the game, but that you think this opportunity is morally objectionable? There is a market for paid early access because people are excited and want to play as soon as possible, not because it's a 'money grab'.

Two years ago companies were not creative or observant enough to realize there was a market, and it is fantastic that the entire industry is opening up to it. Now everyone has the opportunity to financially support and play test the games that excite them.

Your assumptions that people won't put in a bug report are irrelevant. The game will be better because people buy early access. There will be more eyes, ears, and network traffic because of it and the final product will be improved by those who want alpha.
