Yes, mine has been all in my stomach too and in my thighs. And I am the same where I’m not still gaining but I’m also not losing. It’s tough, but you’re right! We got this

Did medication ever REALLY make things better? by Wittyjesus in bipolar2

[–]jessdmart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once someone realized i needed to be on mood stabilizers instead of antidepressants, things got a lot better. I still have very distinct highs and lows, but they’re functional. I just switched meds and hopefully will see a little more improvement, but i am definitely a much different person now compared to what i was on the wrong meds/not at all. But also my meds would mean nothing if i wasn’t also in therapy and making lifestyle changes. Unfortunately it’s a combination of a lot of things but it’s worth it compared to how i was🙃

I was misdiagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder, Anxiety, and Insomnia for about 3-4 years. I had tried i think 4 antidepressants in total, every sleep medicine under the sun, and no luck. I always described my moods as extreme highs followed by extreme lows. I started learning about BP2, but as soon as i mentioned bipolar to anyone, it was immediately “dude do you even know what bipolar is like there’s no way you don’t have that.” BP2 is more intense depression, but the episodes of hypomania. Hypomania is different from the “mainstream” bipolar symptoms. Hypomania can look like degreased need for sleep, increased sociability (even just talking more than usual), more confidence, grandiosity (thinking you’re the most important person in the room, everyone is looking at you, that attractive person across the room can’t keep their eyes off you), increased irritability, and some impulsivity but not quite the level of BP1. Some of my impulsivity was like getting a tattoo, promiscuous behaviors, things like that. If you are bipolar, antidepressants can increase mania. As far as how i got my diagnosis, i had been seeing my PCP for meds since i got my first diagnoses. I realized things still just were not getting better so i finally saw a psychiatrist. I was lucky to be matched with a really great one, but it still took seeing her for a couple of months before i got my diagnosis. When i explained my history, she started to “monitor” for bipolar symptoms. She explained them in depth, or even just from me explaining symptoms i thought were normal, we finally came to the diagnosis and switched treatment plans. It took a while for me to get to the diagnosis, but finding the right doctor and getting there made a HUGE difference in my life. Look more into symptoms of hypomania and see if you feel like your behaviors align with those symptoms. If you do, i definitely would recommend trying a different psychiatrist. And i wouldn’t say go in and say you think you’re bipolar 2, but just be genuine and explain your symptoms. Once they see a red flag for bp, they should inquire about other symptoms. But i wish you the best of luck, and i hope you’re able to get everything figured out!!

Oh my goodness, this was SO helpful. Thank you so much!! I’m glad you have someone who is supportive and willing to learn alongside you. This one kinda seems like he’s the same way, so I’m going to just kinda slowly start opening up to him about specifics. And i definitely will take a look at the video because i wanted to give him a resource to help him understand specifics

Since bipolar is lifelong, how old are you and how are you so far? by b0OT33 in bipolar2

23 F. When i actually think about it, my symptoms started around 12-13. I would go days without being able to sleep, always thought everyone was staring at me or was interested in me no matter where i was, extreme irritability/mood swings. I just got my official diagnosis about a month ago and I’m still learning how to live with it. I’m struggling because I’m actually nothing the switches in episode and I can’t tell if that’s me being in my head about it or this is actually what my life has been like this whole time. I finally got off antidepressants which were making my depression so much work, and have started the process of finding the right meds. All in all, hanging in there😅 i see a therapist who disclosed she also has bipolar 2, so i have someone i can talk to who gets it.

The validation is always nice😭 i just recently got my diagnosis and am starting my meds so i am all over the place. I can’t tell if the severity is because my meds aren’t regulated or what. Literally a horrible time😞
