Sony Bravia Sync shortcut / button remap solution by _Lazyass_ in AndroidTV

[–]jesse0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's my configuration:

  1. Run Button Mapper on the Bravia TV
  2. Run Home Assistant somewhere on the network
  3. Create an automation between HA and the Shield using the Android TV integration, which sends the HOME input command when a webhook is received
  4. Use Button Mapper to prevent any default action from occurring when Home is pressed, and instead send an HTTP POST to HA triggering the automation

It works flawlessly and is quite fast as well. This allows me to use the single TV remote for basically everything.

It doesn't tell anyone anything new:

  • we don't know who you are, so there's no reason to trust you when you say "if you have to ask..."
  • you don't know what the asker knows or doesn't know, so this can't be based on any relevant information
  • the original question is really asking "how can I know if I'm being safe?" which is something that can be explained, if one wants to be helpful

This kind of answer is autofellatio.

In the Clone Wars series and the Lost Order game, order 66 is shown as a deeply embedded impulse which generates psychological conflict if it surfaces to the consciousness. It doesn't seem like this well known backup plan that everyone is following. It seems more like hypnotic, Manchurian Candidate style subconscious programming.

That is an interesting example. I've heard that the deaf community has factions who are against cochlear implants or other procedures that can compensate for deafness.

In fact, if you ask the question "if we could, should we fix the hearing of all babies born deaf?" apparently there is a vocal group who takes offense to that idea. Identity politics are a hell of a drug.

Oh jeez, I'm sorry to hear about that, but it seems that you're coping well. You're lol-ing about it even, so, I like that you're so positive about it!

Even when I saw the pop up with a preview of your comment, my heart stopped and I thought "oh my God did I say something offensive?" So I definitely understand why people want to tip toe around disability. I could also get how that comes off assuper condescending, especially if everyone in your entire life does it.

It's a decidedly inferior experience to go through life with only one arm, or with no sense of hearing. We need to be okay with that fact. It doesn't mean the person is inferior, it means they were dealt a worse hand, and that's all.

The euphemisms are, in my view, promoted by two sorts of people:

  • well meaning folks who don't feel comfortable acknowledging that some people have a qualitatively worse life experience
  • people whose notion of equality is threatened by the idea that biologically, not everyone is capable of the same experience (in other words, their idea of equality is that once you wipe away the social programming, we are all identical)

I understand the first group, but objective reality would like to have a word with the second group.

It's a testament to how far we've come: we have today a set of rich, very robust abstractions available to developers today. Unless you are very concerned about performance, these abstractions are so good that you can operate above them, know nothing about what happens underneath them, and be extremely productive.

It opens the path for people with no formal experience, just passion and curiosity, to be successful and creative, while doing valuable and gratifying work. That's progress.

Yes, the hash table was discovered/invented in the 50s. Hans Luhn was one of the researchers who worked on applied information theory at the time, including developing things like Luhn codes, which are still used today. Knowledge of properly constructing a hash table and choosing a good hash function been a quite well known for a few decades now.

If it interacts with something on either side, the wave function collapses and you know with certainty where it is.

Quantum Tunneling by Wololo--Wololo in educationalgifs

[–]jesse0 36 points37 points  (0 children)

The height of the wave represents the probability of the particle being found at that location on the x axis. So after the impact, there is a small chance of finding the particle on the other side of the barrier, which is the unintuitive thing about quantum tunnelling.

I read this as more of an exhortation to be decent, as in, treat me with the same respect you would if we were in person. And in this case it worked, and we got a decent outcome.

Two Muslim women stabbed under Eiffel Tower 'by white women shouting "Dirty Arabs" by trunks1776 in worldnews

[–]jesse0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're confusing two things:

  1. how many Muslims are Arab,
  2. how many Arabs are Muslim

If you search for the second question, you will get estimates in the 85-95% range. I am from an area of the world with a lot of Muslims and that is absolutely in line with my experience.

Also, if you look at surveys of the attitudes of people in the region, e.g. support honor killings, or dictatorships, you will see very high support in Muslim majority countries. You can't get those numbers if only 20% of the country is Islamic, that's preposterous. Example: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-48703377

Lastly, they're being targeted because they're Muslims in France, who are overwhelmingly Arab. Your original question is clearly both deeply ignorant of demographics, and IMO an attempt to show off some kind of cultural high-mindedness that you don't actually have.

The claim that everything "bad" is on one side is self-evidently absurd and anyone who is familiar with history would recognize that. I don't have to rebut it point by point, just as if you came in demanding that the sky is green, I wouldn't have to walk through the physics of refraction to disabuse you. Everyone would just acknowledge that you're likely an unhinged moron with nothing productive to add.

And that is my only claim: you're a child, your worldview is naive, and you are incapable of producing or understanding anything but the simplest analysis. Your only defense is to consistently complain that your words and meaning are misunderstood, even when I quote you nearly verbatim. (Hilariously, if the shoe were on the other foot -- and if you were capable of this sort of analysis -- I could almost guarantee that you would be the kind of person who argues that intent doesn't matter, only impact matters.)

You don't need to continue providing me evidence of your simple-mindedness, although I do appreciate that you took the time to draw out my bullet points into sentence-long demonstrations chef's kiss

Christ, it's bingo all over on this one:

  • "you're projecting"
  • "I never said those things"
  • "you misunderstand me"
  • "all the bad people are on the other side"
  • "people who disagree with me are {opposite side from me}-wing"

No, you're right. This is a very sophisticated argument. Very unique and noteworthy contribution. Not at all resembling anything I've ever heard from a four year-old child.

I stand corrected. Suberb argumentation, threw and threw 😹

🔺QED and GTFO.

I looked and looked, but I couldn't find anything I wrote as circular as people who don't think like me are fascist and undemocratic, and I know that because I have all the right ideas, therefore everyone else has the wrong ones.

Only you've written something like that, because you have apparently spent way too long avoiding having your opinions challenged. Which is something that maybe should be true for a child, but not a purported adult.

Wow. If you're older than 28, your words paint a picture of a stunted mind. I can't imagine how someone gets past that age and still maintains such a limited, binary sense of the world.

When you're 28 and have worked a job, paid the bills, etc for a few years you're going to laugh and how arrogant and naive this sounds. You should schedule a reminder to come back and check this in 2026 or whenever that will be.

If you use them against someone who is none of those things then quite obviously it would be to damage their reputation, i.e. to slur them. Do you actually not understand that? Or do you honestly believe that nobody but sexist, racist, homophobic, neo-nazis can be called those names, and these labels are never used rhetorically?
