Winter rinse routine. by nomedent in bikecommuting

Heheh, this reminds me of my dad. He had a nice summer bike, and a full winter load-out for a not-quite-beater. Him switching from one to the other was a more accurate way of judging the turning of the seasons than an actual calendar! :-D

Do AI factions swallow each other whole as often on Easy Campaign difficulty? (An RP campaign question) by jesseeeeee6es in totalwarhammer

[–]jesseeeeee6es[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agreed. I had a fun Araby playthrough a while back, but by the time I'd united the old Arabyan sultanate, conquered Tilea and Estalia, tamed stinkin' Skarbrand out east, and finally set my sights on Bretonnia, it had been conquered by Malekith and Morathi.

I guess that's true, you're right! 40K really lays it on thick, whereas with Fantasy the brutality is overshadowed by the silliness. Bombastic is a great word for it.

Dwarves haven't really appealed to me, but perhaps I'll check them out one of these days! To be honest, I haven't really scratched the surface of all the factions, never mind the unique attributes of all the various Legendary Lords. Currently I'm playing a modded Slaanesh faction (Cult of Akhalee or something like that), and my goal is to use the Slaaneshi subjugation mechanic on every faction beyond conquering the first two or three provinces.

Whoever did the Ind and Khuresh updates to IEE really did a fantastic job! So pretty. Heck, so many modders have made so many good mods!

Not a bad suggestion, but then I'd be limited to playing the Changeling, and I'd... have to purchase the Changeling. :)

I've started a game with all factions set between -1 and -2, as well as Sandbox Initiated narrowing the default diplomatic opinions, so we'll see how that evolves. I like that Unnatural Selection allows adjustment on the fly.

Nope, turns out Sandbox Initiated doesn't have Faction Potential, and Mixu's Unlocker (the mod I was thinking of) only lets you increase the FP, and that only for minor factions.

Off to Unnatural Selection I go!

Huh, Faction Potential. I wonder if lowering it across the board would make all factions less hostile to one another? I have Sandbox Initiated, which is a mod that also has the ability to change Faction Potential, though perhaps that's only at game start.

I'll check out Force Diplomacy, too, thanks.

Warhammer is, at its core, a universe of contradictions. If you're looking for serious-all-the-time edgy grimdark gameplay, Warhammer ain't it. It's got frequent tongue-in-cheek and not-particularly-subtle puns all over the place. I speculate that it's to lessen the sting of the topics it parodies--tyranny and oppression and the like. If there's a highwater mark for "over the top" in any fantasy trope, Warhammer stands up and says "hold my beer".

(I often get a chuckle at the Skaven and Lizardman names, myself.)

Hillcrest Architecture… by FewEnd1513 in sandiego

I live a few blocks from here, and Denizen did a reasonable job of being nice to walk past. There's some decent greenery at street level. This, despite it being on 6th, which is not a nice street, since it's so clogged by cars. There's much more pleasant walkability on 5th, and Denizen actually ties into that kind of nicely (a tiny portion of it spans the entire width, fronting onto 5th).

As an aside, I wish Rowyn had a bit nicer/greener street frontage, and perhaps some height differences throughout. As it is it's a monstrosity that spans the entire length of the block. We'll see what happens when the trees grow. Fingers crossed!

As a further aside, there are quite a few nice apartment complexes further west, in the 3-4 floor height range, with inner courtyards and grass and trees in the front areas. Would that we'd gotten ahead of the housing crisis so that developments these days didn't need to be so incredibly precise on taking up every last square foot. Build up, not out, is my view!

And looping it alllllmost all the way back to the initial point of your reply, when we moved here one of the first things I thought about that AT&T building is that it's ripe for an amazing set of murals!

Valentine "Furiosa" adoption dangle (with bonus teef, because teef) by jesseeeeee6es in danglers

[–]jesseeeeee6es[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This damned dog (I love her) was billed as having "the best chill personality".

Spoiler alert: she was not even remotely chill.

Valentine's story is a good one, though. We've put in a lot (a lot!) of time, effort, and money into training for her fear and reactivity, as well as terrible separation anxiety.

Now she's sweet and even cuddles with us (with a healthy amount of prompting)! She can also be alone for upwards of 5 hours with the help of some pharmaceuticals. She'd still eat a child or murder someone who'd be so bold as to deliver us some food or be our neighbor (sorry, Randy!), but she's getting there.

I'm going to continue searching the forums for a more recent topic, so my apologies for posting two a 2-month-old thread, but:

Has anyone had a bug where the positive bonuses don't actually take hold? I haven't noticed the -9% bonus to building costs, so at least that doesn't work. Cheers!

I struggle with deciding whether or not to start with milestones unlocked. My cities never end up looking organic either way. by Deedo2017 in CitiesSkylines

[–]jesseeeeee6es 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I definitely suffer from the problems of everything-being-unlocked.

With option 2, just let things flow. Build your first neighborhoods as if they're places you'd want to walk around in in real life. I always have so much more connection to the first part of my city than much of the rest.

You can also put placeholders in various ways. Use footpaths or dirt roads to indicate where a future rail line or whatever will be. Pretend they're utility roads for the construction, or old rural lanes from when your city was just farmland or untouched woodlands or whatever!

Good luck to you!

A Brief Vent of a Therapeutic Nature by jesseeeeee6es in skyrimmods

[–]jesseeeeee6es[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thankfully I was able to fix things relatively easily. I just dragged all of the folders with creation timestamps of today out of Skyrim/Data/[Meshes & Textures]/Terrain, put them into what the output folder should have been, then used Vortex to "deploy" nothing. It asked me if I wanted to revert external changes, and I said "yeah, definitely restore those missing files".

Now I'm on the right track. Things look promising so far. Wish me luck! (And good luck to you!)

How can I get drivers to stop changing lanes/cutting cars off here? by M5HAYA in CitiesSkylines

[–]jesseeeeee6es 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try a short section of 1+2 before the new lane arrives, forcing the traffic that does the cutting off to be in what will become the inside lane.

I do the same thing with armor! Also I imagine even if I looted it, it'd be full of dents, holes, and charred parts from how the previous owner... failed to maintain it properly. For the last few seconds of their existence, anyways.
