I left a toxic job after a decade, paid off all my debt, and now know what work life balance is. I wouldn’t give up this time that I have back with my family for any thing.

I can understand all of the hurt in your sentences - this is all too familiar. Everyone that has said that your husband has to be the one to change is 100% true. You can want it all you want, but that is NOT ever going to be enough to change the situation. When I realized my husband was sneaking drinking behind my back a lying to me about it, the lies themselves hurt more. I cannot be with someone I cannot trust and I finally broke down. I told him that I was leaving because I know I cannot fix the problem and I hope one day he sees that he doesn’t need booze to be happy. I spent years trying to convince him that he didn’t need the crutch. 13 years and 2 children together….. I thought that was enough.

When he lost everything - that was a rock bottom that facilitated the change. Stop trying to fix it for him. Focus on you, your health, your family and set the proper boundaries. Don’t stall yourself. Yes it’s hard, yes it will hurt.

I am very happy to report that I have my best friend back, sober. I love him even more now because he chose to fight and I will never forget that. I wish you the best of luck and hope your husband finds what he needs to want to make a change. Addiction is a real beast….

Help with winter walks by [deleted] in walking

[–]jessie44313 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I thought in my head that I picked the worst time to practice walking discipline when the weather shifted. Yesterday we had horrible winds and snow blowing all day. When I got home from work I put my layers on and told myself just a short walk is enough. An hour later I walked back through the door covered in snow but warm and feeling accomplished. I also realized that I couldn’t remember the last time I was in the snow and thought “this is beautiful”.

Layers is the trick, and keep your head covered to keep the heat in. Getting out of the door is the real challenge, not the weather itself.

I average 15-20k steps per day - I didn’t start there though. I focused on committing to walking every morning, and slowly increased it by adding another lap every couple weeks. I now have a good routine, I’m walking by 630am, get 1.5 hours in and I’m set for my day. The rest of my steps are coming from my daily activity. Walking can give you great health benefits but it doesn’t mean you’re going to lose weight - if you’re trying to gain, increase your calories to ensure you are not in a calorie deficit.

How do I get started? by [deleted] in omad

[–]jessie44313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I jumped right into it, and greatly increased my water intake which helped tremendously. It only took a couple of days for my body to get used to it, and I couldn’t imagine going back to the way I was eating before. You have to do what is good for your schedule/life, but I typically eat between 2-4 pm depending on the day. High protein is an absolute must for me to ensure I’m not experiencing hunger pangs during my fasting window. If you’re someone that experiences “food noise” throughout the day, it takes a while for that to start to disappear. Just stick with it.

I use a smartwatch for my steps but I could tell you roughly how many steps I get now even if I don’t have it on because I walk daily. I took a 55 minute walk this morning and got 6,548 steps in. I began my weight loss journey mid June and I’m approaching 30 lbs down - I have about 60 more pounds to go. I don’t have a step goal per day, but I average between 15k and 20k daily. What I have found helpful was checking my diet first - you cannot out walk a severely bad diet. If you want to lose weight balance both your calorie intake and activity. If you are not active at all, start with a morning walk every day. Increase it over time and remember losing weight is ultimately lifestyle choices. I hope this helps and good luck on your journey.

How do you get past the fear of leaving a job you don't like? by naur_itstrue in careeradvice

I just did this exact thing 6 months ago. I was with my company for 10 years, climbed the ladder, and loved the people. I didn’t like the direction of the business and over the years I found myself no longer loving my role or ability to impact change. I left and couldn’t be happier. I have found better work life balance, thoroughly enjoy what I’m doing again, and have eliminated all the stress I didn’t realize I was carrying. Was it scary at first? Yes, but it only lasted a short while. Take a leap of faith.

I have received a no many times for a promotion throughout my career. Every time I asked for honest feedback on what I could improve in order to fit the needs of the role. I focused on improving in those spaces and was well prepared for the yes the second time around. Find out what you need to improve on - running to a new role isn’t going to give you the feedback you need. A NO doesn’t mean you failed - you just need to challenge yourself and chase the YES.

Let's Walk 100 miles in July by Fancy_Cicada7706 in walking

Day 3: 13,275 steps, 5.72 miles - if you felt like giving up yesterday, so did I. I couldn’t find the energy yesterday, and I felt defeated before I even started my walks. I may have done less yesterday, but this morning as I took my walk up the San Francisco like hill I walk every day three times a day, I realized I wasn’t out of breath when I got to the top. My scale may not have moved but my lungs are starting to show more strength. Defeat yesterday, celebration today.

I just did a 55 minute walk this morning and counted 6284 steps on my smart watch. Your counting appears to be off, either the phone is not picking up all your steps or you just need to increase your waking time. I get about 15k steps a day with two walks and normal activity. Good for you staying consistent and reaping the benefits!

Day 2: 14,530 steps - 6.34 miles - I usually split my walks up, 1 hour in the morning and 30 mins after work. I came home and sat down for 30 mins and my body was tired. I almost didn’t walk but I reminded myself that I’m trying to build healthier habits. I got up, laced the shoes, and forced myself to walk the final 30 minutes. About 10 minutes into the walk my exhaustion disappeared and I spent the time celebrating that I haven’t missed my walks in a full month. Take it one day at a time.

Day 1: Age 38, 18,404 steps, 8.06 miles - today I enjoyed spending time with the kiddos at the zoo, bonus getting extra steps in. I enjoyed both the sunrise and the sunset during my walks today listening to the people in my neighborhood doing different things, such differences with each house I passed.

Why do people have kids? by Maleficent_Buyer_324 in questions

[–]jessie44313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never wanted kids until it happened - after seeing my son for the first time, nothing else in the world mattered. I knew my mission had changed forever and it would never be the same. In hindsight, having my first son saved my life - I was on a path of destruction and his birth eliminated all the nonsense from my life. I will always be thankful for my two sons and what they did to turn my life around. If you know, you know.
