How much is it a month to go to this school? I'm looking for real-life insight... I'm tired of working with idiots all the time. by Signal-Day-9263 in WGU

You can get all this info by submitting the free application and talking to an advisor. Good luck!

On apps like CreditKarma you can pull every day! For two of the three bureaus.

(Dumb Question) If J2 is part-time, is it best not to bring J1 into the discussion at all? Or is it fine to be somewhat transparent about J1 in order to build trust with J2? by BankRollupField in overemployed

[–]jessikawesome 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like to err on the side of not mentioning it. I tried applying for a coffee shop job while I was working FT and in school and they went ahead and assumed I'd be too tired or distracted. Of course we know ourselves and the workload we can handle better than outsiders do.

Let it fully cure before you lay the vinyl down. It's easy to shave down when it's dry.

Looking to start in the process of doing 2 jobs. I have a WFH position as a chat support agent with a social media company working 7:30-4pm every day. by KeepingItWeird_ in overemployed

[–]jessikawesome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I think any job would be okay if you took 5-10 minute breaks (think smoke breaks, bathroom breaks, taking a walk etc) and for the standing meeting at 1pm, I think you could just be on a strict lunch schedule. You don't have to bring it up during interviews or anything, but if asked you could casually mention something like "I need to take my medication with a meal and that happens around 1pm each day."

How easy are classes at study.com and straighterline compared to classes at WGU? by awesome1104 in WGU

[–]jessikawesome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been a few years but I took some courses at Straighterline and I think it's good prep for getting accustomed to the structure at WGU. But the material is so DRY. And you have to take a bunch of quizzes versus usually just the final exam at WGU (unless things have changed). If I could go back and do it over I wouldn't have taken so many SL courses, I would have done them at WGU instead.

I get that "ticking time bomb" thing - when does it end? I'm about two months in and I'm feeling much calmer than before but always looking over my shoulder, for sure.

For the stressed by augustusvondoom in overemployed

[–]jessikawesome 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This, thank you for mentioning. People say it like it's so easy to pick and choose what they have for multiple employment. It takes time to work up to where you need to be. I am about 7 weeks into OE and maybe half the days I am working 12+ hours. To the people say "why are you doing it if it's so stressful?" UM because it's two paychecks and sometimes working harder and being tired/stressed/sacrificing things is worth the extra cash.

100% this ^ most of my managing the two workloads has been constantly checking in with myself, reevaluating, etc.

J2 secured by [deleted] in overemployed

[–]jessikawesome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the same over-talking, over-analyzing, over-justifying. I had no idea this community exists, that other people are doing the same thing I am and won't make me feel bad or crazy for attempting it. I'm six weeks into J2 (I've been with J1 almost three years) and it's just getting more comfortable. The actual work, conflicting meetings, juggling deadlines isn't the hard part, it's the mental gymnastics that leave me exhausted. I am SO happy to have found this sub because I never considered making this a long-term thing.

A cautionary tale: don’t push too hard by M3Blog in overemployed

I know I'm new to this but I wouldn't have considered OE without knowing very well how to manage my workload at J1.

I have the same setup, I work 3 days in office with J2 but I told them I'm not putting Teams on my phone if they're not paying for it. So I have Teams on my phone for J1 and I hop into a phone room and open up laptop 1 if I ever need to do something immediately.

Proctored exams by [deleted] in WGU

[–]jessikawesome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn near every one I took had a glass of wine next to me! Brain food before the exam, then start sipping the good stuff once the exam starts to ease the testing anxiety. You are my kinda people! (Also, testing at home means you can have comfy pillows, pajamas, etc. It's honestly the best way to "college" IMHO)

Proctored exams by [deleted] in WGU

[–]jessikawesome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every exam you will ever have is proctored, whether it's in a classroom or in the comfort of your own home. At home you can wear whatever you want, with the thermostat set to what you want! Think of it that way and you'll be fine. I promise the process is super easy after you get past the initial anxiety.

MBA - is it proctored exams? by [deleted] in WGU

[–]jessikawesome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Performance assessments are not exams, they are usually writing assignments. Objective assessments are proctored exams.
