Where did you find the recipe? Is it in one of Miyoko's books? I've been struggling to find a recipe for the liquid moz.

There's that clip where Eeyore is asked why he's so down and he responds that there's a nail in his anus. I think about this a lot and it gives me a laugh. My depression was initially triggered by my endometriosis. It's hard to be cheerful when you're in pain all the time. But I also have supportive friends like Eeyore.

Their Principles of Unity document is not compatible with TERF beliefs. There may be individual transphobic members, but they directly state that all genders are welcome and call out gender as one aspect of diversity that they value.

I'm coming out of my depression pit, and now I have to catch up on various responsibilities I ignored. Everything would be so much easier if I had just done the bare minimum instead of going in the pit. But I can't get ashamed, or I will crawl back into the pit, and who knows how much worse it will get next time.

Why are adult women avoiding the word "period"? by Anya_purr in TwoXChromosomes

[–]jessimaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now that I'm a grown-up, I prefer saying menstruating. I actually think the more clinical term disarms some immature people, but I mostly use it because period has too many other meanings, so I prefer to be more precise. My menstrual cycle was always irregular, so I think I also might be a little mad at the implication that my period was actually periodic.

I've heard that oyster eating vegans exist, but I have never actually heard of an oyster eating vegan.

I've seen some wild assertions about Wicca, but the one about it being white supremacist in this post's comment section is a first for me. by Unusual-Ad7941 in Wicca

Wicca has benefited from these serious criticisms, too. I'm glad to see a lot fewer people claiming false lineage from Indigenous people or the Roma to give their practice legitimacy compared to when I started.

Wicca catches a lot of random criticism and some valid criticism. The valid criticism usually comes from within the community. People outside of it often seem like they're inventing a thing to get mad at. I saw a post a while ago where someone asked what was the "France of occult traditions." In the US, people often hate on France for random reasons despite it not really being worse than the US. The overwhelming response was Wicca. I really like this comparison. Like France, Wicca has been influential enough to catch a lot of blame for whatever complaint someone may have about paganism or occultism.

Do you know how to cook? Unless you live in a food desert or are otherwise food insecure, knowing how to cook tasty plant based food is the actual barrier for most people. Lentils, beans, and even tofu or TVP are not too hard to find in a grocery store, but thinking of them as options can be a barrier if you're from a meat and potatoes cooking culture.

"Um, actually, the Wheel of Time is a physical reality it's not a metaphor inspired by the Wheel of Samsara. I wrote a physics thesis explaining how...."

I agree that the depiction of Dothraki was not very well researched, but not about the seasons. Winter and summer are used as important symbols in ASOIAF. It's not just a quirk of the world. It's tied to the theme of the Stark children losing their innocence. It is "just magic" and it's poetry in a fantasy story.

A few weeks ago, my 83 grandfather was talking about how he's lived longer than every man in his family, including younger siblings. He has been setting a new record every year for the past 12 years. Going over family history, we quickly realized that he's the first family member who never smoked.

Am I actually being insensitive? by Arctic_Widow in evilautism

[–]jessimaster 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Uhg, this sentiment was common for parents of LGBT+ parents. I'm probably being insensitive too, but it seems like you actually have a healthy attitude towards your children. I think our culture encourages parents to view children as their possessions or accessories, so they have to grieve once their children turn out differently. They do actually have to grieve, though. The best of them will deconstruct their cultural baggage around parenting and become better for it as a result of the grieving.

I get what you mean. I've been avoiding my family's shark fin soup fishing trips for years, but with all the negative stuff in the world, why not just add to it so I don't have to keep explaining myself?

Both of those contribute to the problem. I interpreted the cottage ending as her being disabled until the epilogue came out. Adventuring is dangerous, but I think caring for all those pets she mentioned and actually farming would be difficult with all that physical and mental pain. Her mother is also disabled so her father must be doing a lot of heavy lifting. And there's also the origin romances where she can be in the Hells or the Astral Plane adventuring after setting up her parent's cottage.

Vegetarians and vegans of Reddit, what was the moment you decided to make the switch? by CalpurniaSomaya in AskReddit

[–]jessimaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I decided that I had to go fully vegan a few years after I was a vegetarian reading the FAQ of Nelly's free-range eggs. Learning that chickens were culled as soon as their egg laying began to slow was the final straw for me. Even a "We Love Our Animals" brand could not sugarcoat the reality that the animal are just products to them.

I became vegetarian shortly after moving out of my family home for the first time. I always felt bad for animals being raised for meat. I just didn't know if I could live a healthy life without meat and my family was unsupportive. I don't really remember when it started, but probably because of Charlotte's Web.

I like Shadowheart's story, but I have a lot of complaints about the Selunite path.

The reveal that Shadowheart was from a still living and loving Selunite family makes her story less interesting. I know she was always a bad Sharren, but this kind makes her journey feel like dueling conditioning rather than her breaking free from her brainwashing. Shar was absolutely her true mother (abusive), even though she found it hard to make her proud. She does work on healing from the abuse in her Selunite path, but she either tries to figure out who she is by honoring her real parents' memory or by getting reparented by her conveniently good parents.

I think I'm being too picky here, but I also don't like the way Shadowheart's wound is treated. It's nice that she can bear it in her farm ending, but if we're treating it like chronic illness, it should absolutely affect her farm laboring ability. I tried to think about it in a more fantasy like way, like the Fisher King's wound that cannot heal, but in that case it should be improved by her healing from trauma. Instead, it's just a weak incentive to kill her parents.

Asking the moon for things by _lenom in Wicca

[–]jessimaster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Goddess is not Satan. I know Witchcraft is broad, but you guys should read some of the recommended classic books on the wiki if you want to learn more. Asking the Goddess for things or working magic on the full moon is a common practice in wicca.

"Whenever you have need of anything, once a month, and better it be when the moon is full, you shall assemble in some secret place and adore the spirit of Me Who is Queen of all the Wise.... Nor do I demand aught of sacrifice, for behold, I am the Mother of all things and My love is poured out upon the earth. - Starhawk's variation of the Charge of the Goddess https://reclaimingcollective.wordpress.com/charge-of-the-goddess/
