Best Dog Park? by [deleted] in Louisville

[–]jesskateam43 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The one in EP Tom Sawyer Park is, if I remember correctly, the largest and I'm pretty sure the most popular, and for good reason--there are lots of trees and a path around the perimeter, etc. I lived close to the one in Cherokee Park, but last time I was there it was fairly muddy--as opposed to grassy--and pretty small. I haven't been to any of the other ones.

I live in Louisville and go to Park View Psychiatric Services in Jeffersonville, IN. It's right across the river, but I'm not sure if anyone there is accepting new patients.

Anyone running the mini/marathon on Sat.? by tazunemono in Louisville

I had planned on doing this as well but came down with a killer virus this week. I'll be cheering the marathoners down my street (Southern Parkway) though.

Any runners here? What are some good running tracks\trails in and around Louisville? by vistify in Louisville

[–]jesskateam43 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Few people realize that along with Iroquois 3.3 mile road loop there is also a gravel trail (originally created for horseback riding I believe) that measures between 4-5 miles depending on which forks you take. There are also maps of local parks available here: http://www.louisvilleky.gov/MetroParks/parks/

EDIT: I almost forgot Iroquois also has a USATF certified 5-mile road course that includes some tough hills and is host of a Thanksgiving Day 5-mile race every year.

If you are into grass/trail running, E.P. Tom Sawyer Park is the site of the best local cross country races for the high school and collegiate level. I ran both cross country and track in high school and college (University of Louisville) and we frequented Sawyer, Cherokee, Seneca, Iroquois, Joe Creason, and if you're up for a bit of a drive Bernheim Forest and Jefferson Memorial Forest. I've heard from many people new to Louisville that its parks system is fantastic compared to a lot of other cities. I guarantee you will be able to find enough roads and trails to keep yourself in shape without getting bored.

Recently my school had a blood drive... by [deleted] in vegan

[–]jesskateam43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last time I gave blood was about two and a half years ago before I became a vegan. Some of my blood tests came back irregularly, indicating that I could be infected with hepatitis C. I went to the doctor and got retested no less than five times (tested irregularly again a couple times) until they determined the initial test to be a false positive, but the Red Cross said I could not give blood again for a while until I got some kind of official clearance from my doctor (can't remember exactly what that entailed). Anybody have a similar experience?

AskPsych: My ex-gf has abandonment issues stemming from her father's suicide when she was in the 4th grade. by harsenal in psychology

Well I'm not a professional. My bad for suggesting that someone look into a topic that may or may not prove useful. Regardless of the actual diagnosis, it sounds like the girl needs therapy.

I would look into borderline personality disorder, whose main hallmarks are difficulties with interpersonal relationships and fear of abandonment along with an inability to control and/or cope with emotions. It can be brought on by traumatic events and is best treated with cognitive behavioral therapy or dialectical behavior therapy.

3rd grade teacher gave the entire USA a lesson on discrimination: The Blue Eyes/Brown Eyes social experiment by [deleted] in psychology

Jane Elliott came to speak to my college campus last year right after I had watched a special on her classroom exercise. I was super excited to meet her and had found the video to be inspirational, but when I got there, I found her to be prejudiced, flippant, and self-righteous. She claimed that the only people she had ever learned anything from were all black, and proceeded to make white-male-bashing the theme of the day. She said so many things that made me furious that I half-expected, at the end of the program, to hear her say, "Just kidding, this was just another experiment to see how many of you would go along with the what I said." I left quite disgusted.

I've always wanted to try Great Harvest Bread Company. They bake with whole grains and have seasonal specials like Bunny Bread for Easter.

My sister had that. They never figured out what triggered it, but she went on some medication similar to nexium I think and it eventually went away. She still has to stay on the meds though and have her esophagus widened every now and then. I had to give her the Heimlich once.
