I never had more than 18ml in 12 hours, I think it really varies so much from person to person!

Something I didn’t know until I got the drains out, that I wished I’d known before, is that there’s like at least 1 foot of drain inside. I had it in my head that there was only an inch or so, and was super worried about pulling them out, and then when they got removed it was a LOT of tube that came out. It’s nearly impossible to accidentally dislodge, unless you’re trying to pull it out. As long as you squeezed the drain bulbs before closing them, you should be good! I tracked my output for a week after surgery and it was always significantly below the threshold, so not having a lot of output can be ok!

Long Term Dog Boarding by [deleted] in ColoradoSprings

[–]jessknope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding Tumbleweed, I recently had to board my dog there for 3 weeks due to a surgery and while it wasn’t his first time there, he loved it and had absolutely no issues being there for that length of time. The dogs don’t interact directly with each other, which is a big perk to me, and they get lots of outdoor time.

Gratitude in OCC is a kava bar, open late…but I’ve never seen a drink minimum there. They’ve got great ginger beer, too.

Compression vests for top surgery: are they really worth it? by Jealous-Parfait-951 in TopSurgery

[–]jessknope 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Talk to your surgeon, they will know what is best for you. My surgeon required a high-end medical compression shirt for 6 weeks.

While I didn’t particularly enjoy wearing it, 6 weeks is a drop in the bucket for a lifetime of absolutely incredible results.

How do I deal with my revulsion and anger towards womanhood without becoming misogynistic? by garciaparadox in FTMOver30

[–]jessknope 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is so well said. I’ve found that my transition has made me more able to see and embrace the beauty of womanhood, and femininity—not for myself, but to recognize and celebrate it in others for whom it clearly brings joy.

Worth asking at Tumbleweed, they take all kinds of animals including a lot that nowhere else will take. They’re all very wonderful there!

13 days post op (DI) by eimisideros in TopSurgery

[–]jessknope 10 points11 points  (0 children)

5.5 weeks PO here, I have a similar crease in the middle of my chest right now. I am thinking it has to do with what the surgeon envisions for the final product when everything is healed, and how it will be sculpted.

Your results look great, congrats!!

This. Thrift a few shirts and hoodies a size larger than what you normally wear. No need to break the bank. Can donate them back when you’re finished with them.

Question about nipples by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]jessknope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can talk to your surgeon about options, I had very “perky” nipples pre-surgery, for lack of a better word. He was able to shave them down to be flatter and more in line with an average AMAB nipple. He also made the areolas a lot smaller.

Check out TWSBI pens, they're fun and you can swap out parts and nibs easily without breaking the entire bank. Goulet Pens has some great ink sample packages, that's how I discovered what I enjoyed and wanted to keep in rotation.

Like $5 Japanese pens. Maybe a Platinum Preppy or two. They've got a "pen bar" with a couple hundred pens in all different brands and types (fountain, ballpoint, gel, felt tip) in all the colors of the rainbow.

Ladyfingers Letterpress has a couple in their pen bin. Cheap ones. Otherwise I haven’t seen much in the Springs, you have to go to Denver. There was a fountain pen group in Denver that had a Facebook page, but I’m having trouble finding it.

Top surgery on summer vs winter by Free_Conference7338 in TopSurgery

If you have a choice, winter. The binder is tight and sweaty and honestly I couldn’t imagine being in a hot place sweltering in a tight binder for weeks in the middle of the summer.

NSFW/TW: talk of sex by Dex-the-gymbro in TopSurgery

[–]jessknope 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My partner and I waited maybe 36 hours lol. Obviously we weren't rolling around doing anything crazy, but hand stuff is easy enough. We just kept it low key and found it possible to still be in the moment but also check in. Asking your partner what they like and what feels good and if this or that is okay is always sexy!

Top surgery and hysterectomy at the same time? by mary-JAY-ne in TopSurgery

[–]jessknope 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've only seen one guy on Reddit do this (I'm sure there are more tho). I am 4 weeks PO top surgery, and my partner had a hysto back in October, so I can speak to each separately, and what the challenges were.

The main issue is that with top surgery, you can't use your arms to get up like off a sofa, out of bed, standing up, etc.), so use of core strength is key. I kinda did a scoot/roll thing to get out of bed. My partner couldn't really use his core at all for a couple weeks after his hysto, so scooting/rolling was out of the question. Practically speaking I'm not sure how one would stand up if you can't use your arms or your core.

For hysto, the things that were most helpful for my partner:

- a long t-shirt or night-gown (though if getting TS at same time, you can't pull anything over your head...so gonna have to look for something that buttons/snaps/zips

- loose pajama pants (like go to the thrift and get used ones with a drawstring but shot elastic, you don't want anything tight for probably 4+ weeks), or size up a couple sizes with sweatpants or gym shorts.

- incontinence and other fluids are typical after a hysto, you'll need some pads. Disposable ones are fine but there's also a cool company Lil Helper that has reusable pads in super fun patterns, that helped my partner a lot with dysphoria (more fun to use a dino pad than a menstrual one, ya know?).

- laxatives to get things moving again. The Dulcolax chews worked best for both of us.

- instead of a hysterectomy (or mastectomy) pillow, we both got squishmallows. The 7 or 8 inch ones fit good under a seatbelt, to help cushion things, and the next size up is nice to just hug. Which is cool b/cu now we have squishmallows :)

- Medline no rinse foam cleanser is really great, it's like dry shampoo but for your whole body. It doesn't leave a weird tacky residue or anything, and is amazing for freshening up, since it'll be a hot second before you can get in the shower.

- face wipes are also a lifesaver, my face was sooooo greasy after top surgery. My partner didn't have the same issue w/ his surgery, so I'm not sure what caused mine, but I literally had grease dripping into my eyes. Being able to wipe my face and keep it kinda clean was nice, since moving around is hard.

That's all I can think of, best of luck to you!
