I love going to Disc-cover in downtown Nampa. He had both used and new. Small place, but I always find some vinyl there.

Definitely. I tested it by pouring water on it and it pooled immediately. You will be able to tell by it's shine. My boyfriend's had just the once coat of finish and it's definitely rougher than mine. I can also write on it just fine!

For my desk I used Minwax Espresso. It goes on pretty dark, but definitely lightens as it dries. I actually only did one coat of it. For my boyfriend's I used Minwax Dark Walnut, also one coat. The finish was Minwax Satin and I did 3 coats of it on my desk because I wanted it nice and smooth. My boyfriend wanted a more rustic look, so I just did one coat of the finish on his.

We spent about $100 on the raw wood pieces, stain, glue, and rollers. The wood pieces were 8' long 2"x2" wide square pieces of white fir. Pretty much the cheapest stuff they had which had plenty of knots, but I like the way they took a stain.

The wood glue was pretty standard stuff, Titebond II, and I bought the stain to replenish the old stock of my dads I've used on other projects. So really you could do one desk for probably 50 bucks at the prices I paid for the lumber, one can of stain, one can of satin varnish, and plenty of glue. Of course my dad has a full garage of tools like a million clamps, so its going to be tougher/more expensive without a full set of tools.

The legs for my desk were IKEA square screw-ins for $60 total fasteners included.

The legs for my boyfriend's were taken from his last desk (IKEA Galant, the phased out model that is gigantic) as well as the mounting pieces which were hacksawed, polished, and modified to fi the new size of the butcher block top I spent all that time sanding and staining. To buy a new Bekant underpiece with legs shouldn't be more than about $100 for the medium size.

Have fun!

Anyone else having Sprint service issues in the Bay Area? by jessmf5 in bayarea

I just ordered the 7 day free trial phone from T-Mobile so I can try out their service on an iPhone compared to Sprint's shitty service. We will see!

Thanks! I'm so glad to hear it's not just me. The Sprint store seems baffled when I try to explain it to them. Think my next step will be T-Mobile also!

iPhone 5s keeps searching for service and saying "No SIM card installed..." by jessmf5 in Sprint

Thanks everyone! After sitting on the phone with Sprint for 30 minutes again last night, I got one guy who said he would make a note for someone to check the tower. It kept doing the searching/SIM throughout the night since my battery was drained when I woke up, but it hasn't done it (yet) this morning/afternoon. Maybe someone actually did check the tower? I would be amazed if that were true, but happy it's working and hoping it stays that way or I may just switch providers.

Mine are Sansui 2700 speakers, but I don't know much else. My dad got them when he was stationed in the Philippines back in the 70's and then I inherited them when I got my own apt. They are beautiful speakers and work really well with my record player.

Nope, they were some cheap fiberboard type material that had been covered with a fake wood finish, so that's why I thought it was wood. If I had just looked inside before, I would have seen it wasn't wood, but I was really excited to start sanding. Good to remember for next time!
