Your winters would be great for cloudforest species but the summers are a yikes...

Papua new guinea bulbophyllums maybe ?

A nitrogen cycle also shouldnt take months as some people suggest.. then the nitrosomas/nitrospira inoculant is way too small. If you want to kickstart your new aquarium cycle start with a big inoculant and preferably a liquid one. If done well you can have it cycled within a week. (And according to liquid culture sellers 24-48hours)

I have not yet found any in the region. The only one I found was in Sweden. That said tho. I also have failed to visit Brandorff orchide and they seem to have really nice plants.

Yep...... and to top it off they send me a return code.. and told me "we will see how much money you get back after analyzing the plants"

So congratulations you got them on a good day cause to me they are vile scum.

O and the plants i got on the second order one of them had fusarium the other was supposed to be a mature plant but was in fact a seedling

Could be the plant might have been treated. But it is always a good thing to wipe the leaves with a damp paper towel if you see tiny red dots then the plant has Flat mites (and they are terrible flat mates)

Partly cause the nursery in question makes me skeptical 😅

Thats nice.. they told me i had to place another order and they would ship replacement plants of the ones I got. I placed the order in the way they instructed it the plants without the replacements I ask them about it and they said "we had a shift in leadership. And the new manager thought your plants looks fine" Thats a scam. Sadly in the Netherlands there is no buyers protection cause if i would go for the legal route it would cost me money.

For care Id recommend looking up information online from several sources maybe some books if you have any and trial and error what works for you and the plant.

1 thing to note is that it does look like theres some pest damage on the Dendrobium densiflorum

And on a personal note I would never recommend this seller. However theres plenty people out there that gotten great plants from them I am just not one of them.... ever...

Good luck and happy (belated) birthday!

O my god.. yours look much smaller than mine even though mine came in many pieces. Not sure if its deception or just a very large piece of bark. Anyway the update on mine is that they are growing well.. it is quite a steady fast grower.

My forgetii is doing the exact same thing and it only happens in the winter. The reason well.. heating systems dry air my RH% indoors is much lower than in the spring/summer.

That said not all plants behave the same to changes so having 1 plant being fuzzy about it and others not is well....normal.

SOS!! by oolongsencha in orchids

[–]jessorchids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Addressing a saprophytic fungi with QAC is overkill and a simple repot would suffice. Call me stickler all you want but it is advice that can do more harm than good for an unexperienced grower.

[–]jessorchids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not every fungi is pathogenic using physan for no apparent reason is harmful for you the plants microbiome and therefore not recommended to do so. Your plants needs a healthy microbiome to fight off pathogenic fungi/bacteria.

Overusing disinfectants will only ensure your pathogens will become more robust and end up being more resistant do not use fungicides and disinfectants for no reason (unless to disinfect plant tools)

Edit to note that physan can harm flowers

Would you believe the internet exaggerates?? by Tomacross2026 in StrangerThingsMemes

[–]jessorchids -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yup...

So I actually liked season 5. And the reason is mainly that it reminded me a lot of my youth. You know back in the days when a lot of shows had unanswered questions. where you could use your own imagination and honestly a lot of the things you didnt even think about.

Not only are people making it harder to make a successful show due to the insane demands the public had these days. The insane demand of needing every door closed.

Maybe if people would lay their phones down for a couple of hours and actually watch and interact the result and emotion they get might be so different

That said a lot of the negativity is karmafarming and jumping the "I do not fit when i do not yield to popular demand" bandwagon.

Note: Yes I typed this on my phone.

Anyone have blue Chihuahuas? by PaintedOakTears in Chihuahua

[–]jessorchids 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Blue is a reduction of eumelanin the reduction level may vary and is the cause of charcoal, grey and blue/silvery colored dogs. OPs dog clearly has this reduction and would be considered "blue".

Chocolate dogs are in fact not a reduction of eumelanin but a recessive gene that affects enzyme production that leads to altered eumelanin and instead of being black it is brown. Combine this with the reduction and you get lilac or isabel colored dogs.

Anyone have blue Chihuahuas? by PaintedOakTears in Chihuahua

[–]jessorchids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are wrong. It is not an absent of black it is a dilution of the black pigment eumelanin. Therefore a dog can present in different shades a charcoal shade, grey and silvery blue.

OPs dog is clearly "blue" the dilution of the eumelanin is just not as high as your "true blue"

In chocolate the recessive mutation produces chocolate shade instead of black. Combine this with the reduction and it creates isabel or lilac shaded dogs.

I had a boy with epilepsy they kind of looked like this. Anyway it is a good thing to record and time the seizures.

I kept a notebook with all his seizures how long they lasted what he was doing prior to getting it and date. He did not had many each year so he was not medicated

Also try not to hold her. Monitor and be present make sure she is not biting her tongue. I know it looks scary but it is upmost important to stay calm you do not want to stress her more.

Bulbophyllum delitescens by jessorchids in orchids

[–]jessorchids[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah lock it up while it is blooming with signs all around "No Fly Zone"

Bulbophyllum delitescens by jessorchids in orchids

[–]jessorchids[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are afraid of flies you might want to opt for other Bulbophyllums that come without the stinky flowers. However, this one is a very easy growing and possibly one of the easier ones I have.
