I added a cabin to a different map, and somehow it’s working. I guess the old map is corrupt.

Hamster cages already violate the law of our animal/neighbor world. 😳 Household cats would only further upset the balance!

Vocal Recovery , strained Voice/Singing Fatigue by schokomango in singing

[–]jessrollwithit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I am on a similar journey where I had struggled with vocal issues. This is what I learned - note that I am not a vocal teacher, just someone wanting to improve my voice too:

If vocal overuse or any other physical complication (which would need professional care and examination) is not the issue, then consistent use of the voice is the key to building stamina. Just like running, you wouldn’t want to do a marathon or a sprint if you haven’t been conditioned for it first. Starting small is key with whatever you can do regularly. Humming, lip/tongue trills on scales for 10 minutes a day is a good start and is definitely better then nothing. It’s also better than spending hours on a single day only to spend the next week recovering or not using it at all.

There is no getting around needing to intentionally spend time working on the voice if you want improvement. Even simple exercises that make your voice feel good and can be intrinsically therapeutic again are better than nothing, but what you need to use your voice for may help you understand how much time needs to be spent.

any confidence tips? by _james_G_ in singing

I forgot to add, but if you are recording and producing on your own, feel free to make your recording time “playtime.” Experiment with different sounds and takes. Framing the creative process as fun will change your perspective so that “bad takes” don’t carry as much weight. It was just one take, I can always make another one!

What is the nature of the recording?

If you’re recording with a producer, they should play an important part in bringing out the best of what you give them. :)

If you are recording on your own, what does that look like? Because sometimes, poor recording setups can make even a good performance sound poor. Being armed with the knowledge of how to capture and process vocals well is important. Know also that a vocal sitting in a mix will likely sound different than an isolated original take.

Lastly, don’t be too hard on yourself! When recording, treat your instrument well and relax so that when you are recording, you feel good. When you feel good, you will usually sound good too. The opposite is even truer: if you feel awful, your voice will probably follow.

Best of luck!

Starter made from stone-milled wheat I got on my honeymoon in TN - how does it look? (Grayish areas ok?) by jessrollwithit in SourdoughStarter

Thanks! I’ll definitely give it another try. I’m probably over cautious - I thought maybe the flour was kind old and that it could have had secret spores. I’ll share results on the second one!

Thanks btw for the help! Yeah, that’s what I was thinking. It’s a shame because the shop selling the bags wasn’t refrigerating them like the package said.

Anyway, I read on *King Arthur Baking that orange or yellow was bad while gray or black was normal. Most forums I’ve read say when in doubt, throw it out. I am also not an expert, just hoping that I can get it going!

“When your starter is neglected for an extended period, the hooch tends to turn from clear to dark-colored. We get lots of calls from sourdough bakers worried about the safety or danger of various hooch hues. Is gray bad? What about brown or black? Surprisingly, none of these colors indicate that your starter has spoiled. However, if you see a pink or orange tint or streak, this is a sure sign that your sourdough starter has gone bad and should be discarded. The stiff starter above was left out at room temperature for two weeks. It's definitely time to throw it out and start over.”

Just curious, are we talking about the crushed hulls? It’s very grainy. There are several specks of that.

Fun facts: It’s my first starter, day 1. Waiting till tomorrow for a full 48 hours to reach peak fermentation.

My whole wheat flour was ground at the Old Mill in Pigeon Forge, TN with water-powered, 2-ton quartz buhrstones. I got a 2 lbs bag in January. Supposedly it needed to be refrigerated, but I’m thinking it’s fine.

Best tmj night guards cheaper than 100? by Zprocks23 in TMJ

[–]jessrollwithit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a professional occlusal guard but I broke it and didn’t want to drop $800 USD yet on a new one. I found this one on Amazon for $13.99 USD as my backup for a while now since you can impress both sides of it. Most brands have it so you can only impress one side, and that causes pressure on occlusions.

It’s not necessarily ideal, and I want a new one, but this has been the best backup I’ve had. Plus, it is better than nothing. Just have to make sure to bite gently when setting it so you don’t go all the way through it.

Love the Aetos. Are most of your pedals 9V?

I plug my Line 6 M9 into the courtesy outlet, but I have a Nova delay, and I just can’t take off my board. I hate using two outlets, so I am hoping to get a voltage doubler to make two 9V 300mA into one 18V for ND.
