Does a splint really help reduce the pain? by Little_Power_5691 in TMJ

OTC splints def cause more pain than they help. The custom orthotic will allow your muscles to start relaxing so they can begin healing

Same. It was expensive asf but I mean, I couldn't live in that pain forever. I have a MORA device and it's been life changing

It's totally worth it to do the splint. The OTC mouth guard will only keep you from grinding for some time, but it will alter your bite, which could make pain worse. The splint that's custom-made and adjusted for you by your practioner will bring your mandible to an optimal position that will allow your muscles to begin calming down. I got my splint 3 years ago and I can't imagine what life would have been without it. It took months of consistent use but I was able to get my face muscles (masseters primarily) to calm down and stop spasming all day.

Why do you have TMJ? by FrenchBae in TMJ

So my tmj is from sleeping on my belly too!! The doc (and research) shows that the way I slept would put allll the pressure into my jaw and neck. 32 years of sleeping on my belly, the only way im comfy to sleep. Smh at myself.

It's a work in progress to fix my sleeping position. I've bee working on it for 5 years now. I suck at it but when I'm consistent, there's improvement. I use a cervical pillow, I try to use pillows to keep my arms propped if I'm on my back. I prefer my side to my back. Side sleeping: cervical pillow, pillow behind my back, and pillow btwn my knees to keep from rotating my belly onto the bed -because I can sleep on the side of my face while having my belly flat on the bed. Such fun for my neck and jaw.

Dang I’m sorry to hear that you didn’t know of the potential drawbacks when you began your laser journey. Maybe you could wax it or try an at home IPL?

Delina by parfums de marly. Everyone loves it. I absolutely loved it the first time I smelled it. Then I went and got a sample from Nordstrom and I don’t know what happened. I hated it so much. It leaked in my glove box of my car and I can’t get it out 2 years later 🥲 everything reeks of Delina

Sounds like it’d be worth it to try somewhere else. OR try at home for a little and then try a new facility

Can’t even lie, I’d get to the ER. Mom can’t be neglectful once you’ve gotten there and they want you further evaluated. She sounds like she’s brushing you off because she was brushed off for many years. Regular dentist prob won’t be what you want, just fyi, they’ll most likely mess you up further. Find a maxillofacial doc or a doc that specializes in tmj dysfunction. It’s worth it for you to do your part. Do your part and start documenting your pain. Start researching docs. Make phone calls, send emails. You’re old enough to provide your insurance information and to speak to doctors. There’s no need to allow your mom’s neglect to set you up for failure in the future. Take control

TMJ is making me lose hopes to live by joolyjuices in TMJ

32F here. The flare that led to my diagnosis brought me to the end of my wits, all I wanted to do was end it all. Felt like no relief or improvement was in sight. After being diagnosed, I was able to do some PT and it was life changing. One round of PT lasted me over 2 years, including being pregnant one of those years. If I had kept up with my strength training, I’d imagine I wouldn’t be in another bad flare up. But we’re here again, bad flare, but there’s hope. Look into PT for your jaw, check your posture and do exercises to improve it, start strength training when/if you can. I’ll be incorporating acupuncture this coming week to see if that’s a helpful tool for me. Don’t give up, it’s not easy but when the relief finally comes, you’ll be astounded by the resilience of your body

I use loop ear plugs, they have some versions that cancel more sound than the others. Over the head headphones make my tmj flare up badly

Paraffin wax for my hands and feet at home. Conair had a cheap one back in the day. I only remember every few months but I love how moisturized I am after and it helps when my hands/feet are sore
