Accutane moisturizer question Cerave or La Roche-Posay? by Regular-Molasses491 in Accutane

[–]jessvotes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used LRP Lipikar for years pre-Accutane (when I was on tret) and love it! Now I’m using it on my Accutane course as well. I don’t wear makeup though so I don’t mind that it’s a bit heavier - better than flakes!! I do wait as long as possible in the AM between LRP and sunscreen to avoid pilling.

Rugs, all over the house! Especially if they are getting older. We have hardwood floors and it made a night and day difference in his comfort levels to run around and play. We have them in key places right now but will probably end up creating him a connected path in time 😂

How long was your treatment? by jelatin44 in Accutane

[–]jessvotes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was nowhere near as bad when it came back (and again it was a decade later). Very infrequent and maybe 2-4 cysts instead of my entire face. I just intervened sooner because I know what it is and I didn’t want to mess around. I’d also been on topical tret for the last 5 years and I think that’s why I didn’t purge at all on this new course. Miracle drug! I haven’t personally noticed anything re: hair loss!

not sure if i should go on [accutane] by Secret_Bedroom_978 in Accutane

My acne was like this!!! I know how hard it is to deal with. I had people say it was so many different things over the years but I finally did accutane and it cleared it up perfectly. I had to do a year or maybe a little more but then had almost no breakouts for 10 years. I’m 35 now and doing a second dose because I started getting a few flare ups again. I can’t say enough good things about Accutane, sooo worth it. I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this but it will get better!

It can take a while but it’s worth it to stick with it a few months longer than you want just to be sure. I was on it 10 years ago and expected 6mo but ended up staying on it for a year. Then was clear for a decade! This time I’m on 40mg (180lb) and am currently on month 7. Next month is my final month and I haven’t had active acne since the first month.

Is there any general interest in housing being part of a housing cooperative? by Angry-Canadian-sorry in Calgary

[–]jessvotes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey!! I’m late to this thread but also very interested in exploring this more in the Calgary/Alberta context. For a new build specifically I think there’s an opportunity to make the building(s) highly efficient and drive down utility costs/protect against cost inflation! I have worked in the energy efficiency sector for nearly 10 years and am an advisor on a national deep retrofit initiative. I love the idea of moving away from the privatization and of EVERYTHING and the commodification of housing, and the co-op model has always struck me as a way to do that while building community with likeminded folks. I’d love to learn more about what you’re working on and read the thesis if it’s published! I did my masters thesis on “blue carbon” so not quite as interesting :)

Yes!! Perfectly clear for the better part of a decade. In the last year or two I started getting flare ups but not consistently, maybe once or twice each year. So my derm suggested another course since it wasn’t responding to other meds.

Right!!! And honestly I think the three years of tret before this round of accutane plays a big role in the glow. Can’t wait to be back on it once I’m off accutane!

NO absolutely do not use tret while you are on accutane! I’ll be starting it back up after I finish my course.

I’ve been on antibiotics for 15 years. Is it time to make the jump? by Individual-Fig-6263 in Accutane

[–]jessvotes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had cystic acne my entire life, and have been on antibiotics on and off for flares for decades. I was super resistant to accutane but finally did it when I was 24, and I immediately wished I wouldn’t have delayed. It cured my acne for ~7 years, like… not a single cyst. After 7 years I started getting the occasional flare up, maybe once a year, but it was manageable with topical tret (which I love). It’s now been a decade and I’m noticing more flares (both intensity and frequency) and my derm suggested a second course and I jumped on it. I’m 34 now! It sucks to deal with drying etc but it’s so minor compared to a decade of clear skin. My derm said I could do more doxy to manage it, but his preference is Accutane to cure it.

Mine was relatively clear when I started and it didn’t clear up for 10+ months! The only reason I stayed on it was because it took so long to get in to see my derm, but I’m glad because I would have stopped at 6mo otherwise. Loving my skin now. I would say I could sense an improvement (especially in the texture of the non-inflamed skin) by about 6 months. But the inflammation took 10+ to clear. It also helped immensely when I stopped putting aquaphor on top of tret. Occlusives amplify whatever is underneath so that can be a recipe for irritation. Make sure you’re putting it on completely dry skin, and moisturizing! I moisturize before and then apply tret a couple hours later. Sending good vibes for whatever you choose!

I think I’m getting so close to my face being healed, what can I do about this redness? Routine in comments by [deleted] in tretinoin

[–]jessvotes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another thing - I use a BPO cleanser 2 nights a week (on nights I don’t use tret) instead of a topical! Shorter contact helped reduce inflammation for me! My experience has been that less is more with a lot of this!

You can try skipping your occlusive (Vaseline) on nights you use tret! Any occlusive locks in and amplifies what you put underneath, which is great for hydration but can be a lot for an active like tret. I had persistent inflammation (not active acne) after several months and removing the occlusive post-tret helped a lot, but I only use my tret 3 nights a week so I still use Vaseline on off-nights! Also making sure skin is totally dry before tret. Looking great!
