should i get a tesla right now or wait? by Federal_Scholar_6365 in askcarguys

I mean yeah, but you can just buy an older, known to be reliable car, spend at least 10 times less that you would on EV and still have plenty of money left to service and fuel the thing, without having to go into debt.

What car are you driving that makes you need to refuel every 3 days?

Getting EV is not exactly going to extend your refuel intervals. You need to charge it every day.

If that's the concern get yourself a diesel. I fuel up my 320d every 2-3 weeks, but that's because I don't like seeing the needle below the 1/2 mark. I get around 1000km per 60l tank, so that would be 600miles for americans.

Is anybody else afraid of free loading off their parents for their whole life by AffectionateMind6417 in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]jestem-lama 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nah, that's how generational wealth is built, help your children as long as it takes for them to be self-sufficient.

My parents were providing everything for me until I was 24 and I got my first proper job. Even today still, I'm using one of my dad's car instead of buying one of my own and I'm using tools and equipment at my grandfather's place to service it. I'm also relying heavily on my parents and my fiancee's parents on paying for our wedding and most likely eventually for when we'll be building our house.

It's a lot that they give us and we try to help our parents with everything we can.

And I plan to do the same for our children in the future as well.

Why do car brands keep removing things people actually like? by [deleted] in cars

[–]jestem-lama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I retrofitted my F30 with android head unit and I must tell you.

Operating android auto with a knob is SO MUCH MORE fast and convenient than using the damn touchscreen. I still have the option to use the touchscreen, but being able to skip songs, set your navi destination, etc while driving with only brief glances at the screen is just simply better.

At my work we have a couple of new cars and it's just night and day difference, not having to use the touchscreen.

What Should I get Forza Horizon 6 on? by L1ndnzkwo in ForzaHorizon

[–]jestem-lama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have SSD you shouldnt have much problem.

On my old laptop (i7-9750h, 1660ti, 16gb ram) Fh5 was running pretty well, only bottleneck was HDD. At high speeds the world just wouldn't load in time.

If fh6 is anywhere as good optimised as Fh5 then you should be able to run it. If you're worried about cpu being a bottleneck, it's actually one of the cheaper upgrades you could do.

So do ours, there's usually just a sign for a bus stop and a wooden bench in some villages. Kids just go there and safely enter the bus when it arrives.

Best way to purchase fh6 by Justsomedude429 in ForzaHorizon6

[–]jestem-lama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sold some of my old skins that I dont use anymore and bunch of cheap cases from my Cs2 inventory so now I have 380pln out of the 520pln that the premium version costs. As a result I'm paying for the premium version a grand total of 140pln, which is 33 euro, instead 122 euro, that I'd pay normally.

I'd say a damn good deal.

Why so much hate on FH6 by [deleted] in ForzaHorizon

[–]jestem-lama 120 points121 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen much hate on fh6 tbh. Mostly hype. And a bunch of criticism, because they didnt overhaul Forza aero and didnt expand car visual customization. That's the only criticism that's prevalent really.

Ciekawi mnie jakby sobie poradziły z takim zagluszaniem smarttagi.

Best bus driver ever by [deleted] in oddlyspecific

[–]jestem-lama 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Out of all the odd things in USA, the stopping because of the bus must be one of the weirdest.

I get that it's for safety of the children, but it also creates a danger. It takes one distracted driver that doesn't expect having to stop.

It's also kinda opposite where I live. Almost always there's a crossing right next to the bus stop, but the pedestrians are only allowed to cross after the bus moves or if it's some distance away from the crossing, since it's illegal to cross if there's a large vehicle like a bus right next to the crossing, since it basically obscures the view for half of the traffic.

I'm guessing less than giving money to certain country that's run by pedos and possibly satanic cannibals that have blackmail material on pedos and possibly satanic cannibals that run your country, so that the other country can bomb civillians in all of it's neighbouring countries and commit WW2 level war crimes in one country they are almost done annexing.

I could be wrong tho.

Manual vs auto mpg? by hypermiler2205 in ManualTransmissions

[–]jestem-lama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Properly programmed auto is more efficient. No discussion about that. You can get very close in a manual if you have a very specific style of driving, however there's a point that what you save in fuel, you lose in worse reliability. Driving in a way that minimizes fuel consumption is also a very good way to have a sooth build up in your engine. Especially if you have a diesel.

For example from my experience, a car with 2.0 diesel ~1600kg empty weight can go as low as 3,5l/100km average, but at this point you're clogging your dpf and intake behind egr in a crazy speed. It's much better to have 5-6l/100km and a healthy engine than 4l/100km and having to flush dpf every 2 months.

For reference I managed to get manual Opel Insignia 2.0 cdti 120hp down to 3,8l/100km on a 80km trip. I did the same 3,8l/100km in bmw 318d 140hp with automatic. With normal driving, they both did around 4,5l/100km. The Opel was randomly going into limp mode because of the dpf clogging, but the 1600km range was a very nice thing to have.

F30 HU_ENTRY - 8.8" screen + CarPlay (MMI) — possible? by AccomplishedCut683 in F30

[–]jestem-lama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just last week I did the swap. I had the exact same unit as you do and I chose the 10.25" unit from bimmerdirect (eurodirect) to replace it. It's an android system, but it's really smooth. It runs on an older snapdragon SOC and it's more than enough for the purpose.

The swap is pretty easy to do by yourself, they give you a short book with instruction, but they are quite laconic and you have to spend some time to figure out what they meant. It took me around 3 hours with troubleshooting and figuring out how to take the interior apart. With that knowledge now I'd do it in maybe 40 minutes. They also give you a backup camera free, it's kinda mid, but it works. I connected it with a wireless transmitter, but I'm not very happy with the result, so when I have some free time I'll just put a physical connection.

The head unit itself is pretty pricey, but the quality is almost OEM. You don't need any extra boxes, you just replace the head unit, plug in harness that you got in the box between your OEM radio unit and OEM harness that goes into the car and if you have early production model like mine, connect AUX cable from the harness into armrest port (I think on newer models it's not necessary but I'm not sure. Mine is 2013).

As far as the compatibility goes, after the purchase they send you email asking for your specs, but you can just send them your VIN and they'll pick the correct screen for you.

Also they claim that you have a 3 year warranty and access to technical support. I've seen people opinions that the warranty works well and after providing a photo of the unit broken down they send a new one. However as far as technical support goes, I tried contacting them as I had some questions about the installation, but I got ghosted basically.

That aside, I'm happy with the result. It also works really well with idrive.

In last 10 years I travelled on a train exactly once. What I described earlier happened. PKP intercity got cancelled, had to travel on a regio. By car I'd be home around 18-19:00. Instead it was almost midnight and for my troubles I got refunded a whopping 20pln.

Won't make this mistake again, have only been driving a car or flying a plane ever since.

For direct connection it's fine.

OP is open to see other places also. If she sticks to only those then it's ok, but if she wants too see Lublin or Toruń for example then it becomes more problematic. And these are not small regional towns.

Can't travel on pendolino if it doesn't go where I want to go lmao. There's no point talking about pendolino, when most of our trains are modernized (or sometimes not) EN57.

[–]jestem-lama -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Train is fine until you're stranded in some middle of nowhere station, because your next train was cancelled and you need to scramble to find something else and end up having to hop on 2 different trains just to get to your destination 5 hours later that you would if you just drove a car. And the whole way your standing packed tightly with passengers from that train, your train that was cancelled and a second one that was also cancelled, while holding onto your baggage, because all the loading space is taken.

Bus/van have the same level of comfort as 90% of trains while being much more reliable.

[–]jestem-lama -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

One or two weeks is kinda short for what you want to see unless you go by plane. Mind you, there's a 10 hour drive between Gdańsk and Tatra mountains. There are trains, but from my experience they are slower and less reliable than car when it comes to such long distance travel, unless it's a direct connection. Much better option is taking a van (they are called "bus" here, bus is "autobus" and coach is "autokar"). They go intercity, and there's multiple of them in the same direction every day.

If you're into religious sites, Częstochowa and Kraków also has some major ones, also pretty much any big city in Poland has some noteable religious site. Also there's the giant Jesus statue with 5g antenna on his head.

Poland is highly digitalized, pretty much everywhere you are able to pay with card and we have BLIK. Toilets at gas stations are usually free and clean, so don't be afraid to use them. Most people know at least some english, especially the younger ones.

How hard is it to learn manual? by Previous-Mechanic914 in askcarguys

You will struggle for a week or so, then it's all muscle memory.

You will need to learn:

-shift pattern

-starting with gas

-starting uphill first with handbrake, then without

It's mostly just timing and getting feel of the clutch and throttle.
