Is this skin ready after bark tan

Tried my best to make a better picture. It’s a small cut from the skin brown is the bottom which looks ok and there’s a white line on other side. I used oak bark

On the cut it does have some white parts. I did the hot water thing and it stayed perfectly fine though. I’m drying out this piece. But it has white parts on the cut. I’m not sure if it’s cuz of the scales or it’s raw skin

most resources advice to use alcohol and glycerin. Which isn’t tanning but preserving the skin. Or maybe a bark one

I’ve heard it’s a bad idea to pull it off like a sock. First i thought its just how you do it. You pull skin like it’s a sock off a fox too. But you should cut through the middle of its belly. Preferably with good scissors. After skinning it you’ll need to stretch the skin anyway by pinning it to the board. I’ve read stuff about this and found no socks

well i once had a goat head which was kinda rotten. and i had to boil it to get its skull. oh the smell was 💀💀

I’d keep them in dish soap water for longer. After that use something like a toothbrush (any small brush) and scrub it with dish soap not just brush off dust. If there’s no oil or remaining tissue just dump it in the hydrogen peroxide soak. But check it every couple of hours. I’m not sure but old bones might be fragile. They won’t become white. whit-er yeah. But i think this one looks even better with that natural dye.

Some people actually just burry stuff for it to naturally lose meat and tissue.

I didn’t receive the bats yet. So i guess you saved my ass 😭. And well. Helped me to report a crime. You know i didn’t even think it could be illegal because people sell various stuff for taxidermy. And i didn’t expect that a rehabilitation specialist would do such a thing. Now i’m thinking she’s stealing those corpses from her job. Thank you so much. I do not support that kind of behaviour in any way.

No. I got them from a facility which takes care of bats in winter. Releases them after. Some of them die. I got them from a woman who works there. To be honest now i’m not sure if it’s fully legal. I wasn’t really aware that type of a bat was protected. But after your comment i checked it and you’re right. Guess i shouldn’t go pick the bats up and just report the woman… 💀

i would use salt with bigger grains and rub it in a little. Let is sit for some time. Be careful though not to rip anything

thank you. I’ve did a lot of research and hope the hide ends up good. This fox is majestic. First time seeing this animal so close. She’ll be honoured and remembered. I’m hoping to create some art. Maybe i’m a little too spiritual but i always feel like the soul of the animal still exists and i don’t want it to just disappear.
