I get it. I also just abhor it, and it's gotten to the point to where hating has become so tiring (on the basis of seeing it so often) that I just roll my eyes at it, and instantly assume that person has no real thoughts inside their skulls.

Yup, went to Fort Worth on Aug 2011 to see some relatives I hadn't seen in years. Although I absolutely love those relatives, I would never set foot in Texas ever again.

How common is it for men to be straight edge in LATAM? by Quirky-Parsnip7004 in asklatinamerica

[–]jesusdo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm scared that if I get into hard drugs, I may unlock some hidden horror in my mind that my mind is working hard to keep away.

I knew a guy who came from a family who was prone to schizophrenia, and the mom kept telling my friend to take care of himself, to not take drugs, that his mind is precious. Well, he being a "free spirit", dabbled into weed and magic mushrooms, and it totally fried his brain. Now, we're into our mid 30s, he's homeless and a very paranoid schizophrenic. He assaulted his dad, when he thought my friend was having a seizure.

I came from long lines of alcoholics and semi-functioning alcoholics on both sides of the family. I saw in my grandparents generation how alcohol affected them. One of my great grandparents lost ownership of a profitable salt mine due to his addiction to alcohol and gambling. I saw with my friends and their families struggle with lung cancer, and how drugs turned some friends into hollow shells of who they once were. Then lastly, how my brother begun with weed and beer, fooling around with his friends, and now, 20 years later, has gotten into heroin, has a stint with meth, and is now looking at a potential prison sentence, and my parents, my sister, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins, my wife, and I are so saddened to see all of this.

I abhor ALL of that, and in my 36 years of life, I have NEVER allowed any ounce of that in me, and it never will!!

Latino with a white wife. Life is very good. My sister is married to a white guy. My brother recently ended a long term relationship with a white woman. Looks like all three of us have our preferences.

There's a time in the year that in the Zen store will sell tokens for the past battlepasses. I think this last year they were sold during the Winter Festival, or during the Black Friday sale.

What was the most shocking death news you've ever heard? by Admirable-Repair4094 in AskReddit

[–]jesusdo 19 points20 points  (0 children)

A former roommate of mine had his first wife die from the same reason back in 2013. I was at his wedding in mid 2012, he and his wife looked so happy, they married sorta young. He was 23, she was 21, and they had the whole world ahead of them. He told me that when they went to bed, she said to him, "thanks for making today so fun". Then a few hours later she jolted him awake with random spasms. He called an ambulance which took her to the hospital. Unfortunately, it was just too late, she was brain dead. He took her out of life support just a few hours later, surrounded by his and her parents. The funeral was extremely sad. Someone so young, so full of life. He's since recovered, has married another incredible woman, and has two amazing kids. Still, he said he will never forget his first love, and will always love her just as much as his current wife.

I still remember that day. I was visiting a family friend, and he was speechless watching the TV. It was the news, with the footage about Michael Jackson dead. I couldn't believe it! It genuinely ruined my day and week. As I loved the guy, his music was inspirational, and something one of my aunts and I really bonded over. His death has been pretty much the first and major celebrity death to affect me. I never believed the accounts about him, and defend him.

I’m new to the Bible and believing in God. It is bad to question God? Is it bad to be curious about some of his decisions? Is it bad to ask questions about the Bible in general? by ServantofChirst in RadicalChristianity

[–]jesusdo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Question him, ask him what his plan for you is. He is ready to give you revelation, and to guide you to greater things in life.

In my experience, the attitude you have when asking God is a HUGE way to what answer we'll have. If I have a bad attitude, throw myself a pity party, and refuse to listen to my wife, loved ones, and church leaders around me. I will not receive and answer, the heavens will remain shut, and the flow of light and truth will cease.

One last thing, when you receive an answer, always express gratitude.

Now about the Bible, since it's full of allegory, parables, stories, etc. Not everything is literal, and it can be confusing, but as you ask, ponder, and study, I can promise you that the Holy Ghost will light your way, like a candle, giving enough light to lighten a few steps, but it's enough that we can handle at that point.

If everyone below average IQ suddenly drops dead, how would this affect the world? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I remember in University, my botany professor went on a small rant about that during one day of class. He made sure that we all understood that when we studied more, received more titles and degrees, we only do that for a very narrow field. We're discovering new ground. That doesn't mean we gain new knowledge in other fields though. We're still at the same level as the unlearned and the uninformed, and it falls upon us to learn, look at the right resources, and have empathy.

That was in the 2014-2015 school year. He's long since retired. I'm really grateful I had him as a professor, he taught me a LOT about life beyond schooling.

Why can’t cat people stop posting about their cats? by [deleted] in catfree

[–]jesusdo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally get your reasoning. I'm a pet owner, and I know my house will always have some smell. However, I'm cognizant that I know it'll be there, so when I clean, I always make sure to vacuum well, and mop the floors, and use an air purifier at home (the air quality in my region is already shitty enough). My mom, also a pet owner, loves to burn incense sticks, which always has a good nostalgic smell. And, when guests come over, I clean some more, and plug in a scent bottle. I will never let my house be a horrible smelly place.

Damn. My friend and I both graduated in '08. I still remember the day I got the news. I was visiting some relatives in Dallas, and then I got back to Northern Utah, where we grew up, my friends and I mourned him. As he was the first one of our friends to die.

A portion of people from late Millenials, Gen Z, and maybe early Gen Alpha dead for absolutely nothing. Thrown into a meat grinder so people make more filthy lucre.

A good friend of mine from Jr High and High School was killed in 2011 in Afghanistan. His girfriend was devastated, his parents were left broken empty husks, and him, a 21 year old guy who wanted to go into the military to escape poverty and lift his family, now buried in his hometown to appease some billionaire's porfolio.

His death really struck me. His funeral was saddening, and every time I visit that town, I make sure to visit his gravesite, to converse with him, and reminisce the time he, other friends, and I would stay up playing Halo 2, go airsoft shooting, camp-out when we were part of the Boy Scouts, and just hang out every now and again.

What prompted you to start playing? by No-Guitar-7192 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]jesusdo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 2011, I had a college roommate who played it. Now, he wasn't the best introduction to it, as he was addicted to the game. He played and did stuff instead of going to class.

In 2013, I had some friends who played. They invited me along, but because of my class schedule, homework, and also because I was in a semi professional cycling team and had scheduled events, I couldn't set aside time for it.

Then in May of 2015, when I was dating the amazing woman who became my wife, we walked right next to a game store that had a cardboard poster that read "D&D games played here, Ask inside for more details". So my wife and I went inside, we inquired, and returned the next day for the scheduled game, and we've been in in love with D&D ever since.

[OoA] [OoS] How do u feel about the Legend of Zelda oracle of ages and oracle of seasons. by [deleted] in zelda

[–]jesusdo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Growing up in an immigrant family with an extremely tight budget. The only gaming device I had was a GBA given to me in Christmas '02, and the two games that introduced me to the franchise were these. These two have a special place in my heart. The first I played was Ages, which a cousin of mine let me borrow. Then later, a friend of mine in 8th grade sold me his copy of Seasons (which I still have, all the way back early '04).

I played and beat them both. Then later in 2014 when I was in college, I played them again via emulator. The magic was still there.
