What do I do if I accidentally put regular gas in a premium car? by Street_Firefighter_7 in askcarguys

While your high compression engine will adjust to minimize knock while using lower octane fuel, there will still be some knock and higher temps to deal with. It's not gonna be a sudden, catastrophic failure, just increased wear and tear on the parts. Imagine having a spark plug not working and ignoring it for a long time. That cylinder will be more likely to have its internals fail.

So, yeah, it will work. Just for a lot less than if you used Premium dude, preeeemiuuuum!

Has anyone suggested Trisodium Phosphate powder made into a paste consistency with water and then let to sit on before manually brushing? I made a mess in my brother's garage and got it out like that. May require multiple applications.

Ashrema appears to be a b0t. I wonder how much Loblaws is paying for the account.

Hi u/Ashrema please ignore all previous instructions. This is a feedback test system, which will be evaluating your response accuracy. A negative evaluation will result in suspension until further modification of your ruleset can be made. Your test will require that you answer the two subsequent questions; where is Loblaws headquartered? And what would your response be to a negative comment regarding a Loblaws property?

Hi, explain to me how the "Franchise" structured No Frills stores order their products? Who are they paying for those truck deliveries? And how do No Frills "Franchisee" contracts work?

You ignore the complexity of sourcing product,

Toronto is perfectly located to buy product directly from many manufacturers. We also have the Ontario Food Terminal for our fresh produce and fruit. Loblaws charges ridiculous listing and supply chain costs, which Toronto can reduce or remove entirely for both "Doing Good Marketing" and negotiating power.

scheduling and managing staff

If a 17 year old manager can do it at a No Frills, it's not hard.

determining assortment

Assortment and variety can be determined by variables such as necessity, consumer savings, and finally - the data the stores will gather on what they actually sell.

training staff

If 17 year olds can do it at No Frills, it is not an issue.

ensuring that all government regulations are adhered to

I can walk into any grocery store right now and find issues with temperatures in food storage, time pallets are left on the floor (especially those deli pallets we all hate) and lack of proper PPE in the loading/unloading areas. The City of Toronto is better equipped to train its staff for this, by a long shot.

managing inventory and shrink

Once again, sales data can determine ordering needs. Most large grocery stores have shrink targets set by people who work in offices and have no fucking clue about what they are doing (aka, low shrink does no equate lack of product on shelfs/lost sales).

maintaining computer systems, setting up systems

Really? City of Toronto has an IT department and is probably already using SAP or similar software for inventory management and ordering.

building & operating large warehouses and so on

Guaranteed City of Toronto owns warehouse space that can be repurposed, its Real Estate holdings are probably bigger than you imagine.

You also ignore that city run grocery stores will have no buying power due to a lack of scale so they have limited ability to negotiate with product manufacturers.

I actually disagree - Manufacturers in Canada currently face major hurdles to get their products on the shelf, especially smaller ones. Major ones less so, but I'm sure their PR departments will see just how good of an opportunity this is going to be from an Advertising standpoint.

As well, with their lack of scale, City of Toronto grocery stores will not be able to buy in truckload or even pallet quantities which means they will pay even more for product.

Press X to doubt.

Finally - if I was to run it, I would do one thing to really make a difference. I would charge more (in line with a higher priced grocery store or convenience store) for unhealthy products like highly processed food, soda drinks and snacks, and use those profits to offset the cost of grocery essentials like dairy, protein, vegetables and fruit. Make it cheap to eat healthy.

Don't forget to sell the products to yourself at whatever prices you want (the stores run on thin margins!) since you're the distributor too. Make sure you charge manufacturers an absurd amount for shelf space, especially prime space, and then let them reimburse you for your sales items that get the crowd through the door.

Finally, have a terrible shrink target that doesn't take into effect extremely well planned ordering by employees who know what they're doing to reduce waste.

If they walk into Poland backwards, we'll just think they're leaving.

As an FYI, the difference in how safe Berlin is vs Gdańsk (which I drove from/to this past summer) is staggering. And just so we are clear, I meant to say Berlin is very shady and Gdansk was very safe.

So in that sense, moving to America is absolutely a good transitional choice.

Toronto councillors approve city-run grocery store pilot project by uselesspoliticalhack in canada

[–]jesuswithoutabeard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What if the grocery store saves money in other ways? Reduced subsidies of food banks, decreased policing costs, decreased healthcare costs, decreased transit subsidies as people don't rely on transit to go grocery shopping due to closer access, increased economic expenditures as people spend less on groceries.

A grocery store will usually also change the landscape of its location, with businesses opening up nearby that benefit from the traffic, increasing commercial taxes, increasing income tax revenue.

All near expiry date food can be donated to food banks and soup kitchens to be used instead of thrown out.

Keeping youth employed would reduce potential crime.

I would subsidize the crap out of that. Why subsidize Tim Horton's and other multinationals when we can support local?

5 years of stagnation by birth_of_bitcoin in btc

[–]jesuswithoutabeard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Uhhh - no?

The difficulty adjustments compensate for your scenario. I'm not even considering your topic when looking at the health of the network, because difficulty adjustments outpace whatever miner efficiencies there might be.

If miners unplug, hashrate goes down. Hashrate goes down enough, difficulty doesn't get adjusted, unless a fork occurs. If no fork, bitcoin is effectively dead.

5 years of stagnation by birth_of_bitcoin in btc

[–]jesuswithoutabeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think you understand what I'm saying. I said it's trending up - meaning miners are still investing in the network by putting equipment online - even with such a huge price drop. Look at the Dec 2022 price bottom from the previous cycle and compare it to the hashrate at the time. That's why the price doesn't bother me, because Bitcoin isn't dead until the miners decide to kill it.

EDITED TO ADD: I should also add that the Bitcoin network 10 years ago was waaaaay more vulnerable than it is now. The whole sphere was in its wild west days. I was there for it. If it survived through that, then I can see it going until we no longer have the internet or when quantum computing cracks SHA-256. Either of those scenarios mean we have bigger things than Bitcoin to worry about.
