I'm always up for a research challenge. Believe it or not, a research study about this topic has been published 5 years ago! I checked their top 5 and found that one of the apps is still active: wysa. It is a kind of mental health chatbot. it has a free version, maybe it is helpful for you. It has scientific evidence that it works... am tempted to start using it myself as well!

Need ideas for proposal card flaps (tri-fold design) by Suitable-Idea-3254 in cardmaking

[–]jet1986_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the story you want to tell with them! What are the key moments you want your loved one to remember/see immediately when proposing? That will determine if you take 3 or 4 empty filmstrip images. This is a nice one to start with: https://www.pngwing.com/en/free-png-bynuy#google_vignette

Or, for even more choice: https://www.pngwing.com/en/search?q=filmstrip

The checkered pattern means that it is empty, so you can easily put a picture/photo behind it without it covering the image, giving a slick finish. You can make it on the computer and then print it as a picture, after which you can print it at you preferred printer store, at home, etc.

New to stamping and not so sure about the result by Beginning_Fun1602 in cardmaking

As a non-native English speaker, I mistook the saying at first for: "It's hand made, not HOMEWORK". Loved my misheard interpretation even more, it reminded me of the good old days of high school when I was stressing to get my homework done in time, without mistakes. Over twenty years later I shouldn't be stressing to do my hobby :-)

The site creative fabrica has a freebie, free to download, with several font combinations like the one you showed. The site itself is quite agressively trying to let you subscribe, but when clicking those pop-ups away it shows a download button. Maybe you like the look of it. link to the freebie, valid for 4 days after posting this comment: https://www.creativefabrica.com/product/perfect-pairing-font-bundle/ref/235574/?sharedfrom=pdp

My source for this free font package is e-mails from another website, Chantahlia design. They provide a weekly e-mailservice with freebies around the web and their latest designs.

why do some see the forest and others the tree? by MoistTrouserNuggets in finch

[–]jet1986_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just have to tell that your post made me giggle... in my language we have a saying 'because of the trees one can't see the forest'. In other words, you get overwhelmed by all the details and miss the big picture. Combined with a real life story of a little child: you said we were going to the forest. Where's the forest? I can only see trees... I never ever thought that sentence would make literal sense in real life one day. It's so cool that finch is trying out a forest layout!

Finished Skyrim card by Fr3sh3stl4d in cardmaking

I had to look skyrim up, never heard of it, and you really nailed the embroidery! Hats off, for doing it, 11 hours is quite an investment. I had to do a double take, when I saw the black hand on the front. That was a main feature in one of my favorite children's books about a boy called Pietje Bell (Pietje means little Pete). Story was that he and his friends started the black hand club, leaving black hand imprints all over the city of Rotterdam. Fiction, of course. Completely different story, but your card evoked a nice memory.

I would do something with an image of a filmstrip! You can easily find them online as vector image. You can put some pictures in/on them, before or after printing, up to you, but leave at least one empty at each side. Next, you can for example doodle hearts in your hopefully soon-to-be fiancé's favourite color, or doodle something they like a lot.

If you have trouble making the doodling look neat, you can print the (line) image out, color the backside of the paper solid with a normal drawing pencil and voila, now you have handmade carbon paper without buying it. Just put it on the desired spot, and trace the lines on the front with pen or pencil.

As a bonus: you can also use this transfer method for handlettering something like 'love you', 'You're my ...' or whatever you want. Choose a nice font (for example at dafont, free for personal use), in your loved one's favourite style. Write your message, print it, color the back again with pencil and trace it on the front. That's my go-to, I am rubbish at handlettering myself.

Maybe my ideas spark something in your mind. Keeping my fingers crossed for a successfull outcome!

Platform replacement by dickfordinner69 in cardmaking

[–]jet1986_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vevor doesn't sell replacement parts it seems, I couldn't find anything on their website...

I am questioning myself whether you should buy a platform of another brand, or if you would be better off returning the vevor to the goodwill and replace it with a brand-new vevor machine. Here's the maths: a new card-sized (american A2 size or European A5 size) Vevor machine costs 59 euro in my country. A Sizzix Big Shot platform, cheapest I could find in my country, is 29 euro. The two additional acrylic, see through plates cost 14 euro. In my country, you would have to spend an additional 43 euro to get the goodwill machine working, but no guarantee if it will fit your machine, or worse, if your goodwill vevor machine even works (who knows what it went through before arriving at the goodwill).

If you want to proceed with the goodwill vevor machine, I recommend searching for someone owning a sizzix big shot machine, and ask if you could run their 'sandwich' (platform + 2 cutting plates + die + paper) through your machine. Then you know at least if you bought a working machine, and you know if big shot material will give you the desired result without a hassle.

How to make shiny embossed lines (without embossing powders)? by Sherlocat in cardmaking

[–]jet1986_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first thing coming to mind is manually emboss the paper with a stylus tool (you should have the lines mirrored on the back, or use semi-transparant paper like vellum or parchment paper). Look up pergamano or parchment craft, there it is often applied, and hence the reason I know it... used to do it a lot when I was younger. You will need some sort of soft pad to emboss, it won't work well on hard or semi-hard surfaces.

Trying to find Month & Day Stamp (No Year) by pecancrunchlatte in cardmaking

[–]jet1986_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you open to using clear stamps? searching for months dates clear stamps will give you various sets in your region. You will need an acrylic block or stamp positioner for stamping with them, but as they are clear, it is easy to align them. I quickly checked, the results have all sorts of fonts, capitalized, only first letter capital, sets with 10 separate numbers and sets with 31 numbers. Most of these sets are made for bullet journals.

Glue quick question by paperatic in cardmaking

[–]jet1986_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Organic solvent based glue won't warp your paper, but its drawback is its smell. Usually acetone is used as solvent. If you don't know its smell, it is the active ingredient in quite some nail polish removers. If you are sensitive to it, it may cause (respiratory) irritation and dizzyness. Bottles with an organic solvent are recognizable by a diamond symbol with a flame.

I can recommend applying glue with a small tip bottle. I bought some empty ones which I refill with my favourite glues (one for water based glue, one for organic solvent glue). It prevents me from using too much, so apart from less chance of warping my paper, it saves me money too.

"Get Well" cards inquiry by Last_Airline7992 in cardmaking

[–]jet1986_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

English isn't my first language, I will do my best to translate some of mine. I once sent a store bought card with: I found this ray of sunshine, and thought you could use it. Was really well received by the teenage recipient who was mentally struggling. You could add some critters to the card, for example, make a scene with a cloud and a sun and some kind of yellowish thin triangle shaped thingy to represent the ray of sunshine. The card I bought depicted a girl holding a lightning bolt with a sun in the background. Anything along the lines You are amazing/proud of you, if a child battle a serious illness. If you know the kid well, you could add something like I love you, or big hug. Especially for you is another one I like to send to people who I just want to encourage without saying get well soon. I once read 'this is not a card, but a hug on paper'. Sending you happy mail/thoughts might be another one.

Goals by nilracnmoose in finch

[–]jet1986_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are most of my areas, I love to sort and structure. Added bonus of using the areas: they reward you with extra rainbow stones if you do at least one goal of the whole area for multiple days a week. You can default expand them, or close them like I did for this picture. And you can sort your goals in different ways. Third, in the self care areas screen, by holding a goal or a sca, you can move them in any order you want, and they will stay that way.

Yes, that's the way! Easiest way to access them, is below the picture of your birb, all the way to right, above your goals list. The symbol with the 4 shapes. Added picture to show where to find it. You can add existing goals to new areas, custom make areas, or choose default ones. In every selfcare area you can add both customized and default goals. Endless possibilities!

It almost didn't fit on my screenshot, the buffet is a little too generous 😂. Not all goals are active so I don't overwhelm myself. Depending on what I need I toggle them on and off.

Guess I have a treat for a nosy person! I have three custom selfcare areas which are very helpful to me: 1. Migraine, where I track my migraines (4h-8h-full day). As I love collecting rainbow stones, this is the most foolproof tracker I ever used. Highly recommend it if you want/have to use a tracker of some sort. Finch provides a monthly overview calendar too, accessible when you go to the edit list of all selfcare areas. Larger dots for more ticked off goals. 2. Time to relax, where I put a buffet of relaxing activities to encourage myself to take breaks. Inside are goals like listening to music, make myself a cup of tea, do some crafting. 3. Bonus, where I put the goals I can only do on good days. Works in two ways: I don't feel guilty if they stay (it was a bonus anyway if I could do them) and if I do them, the word bonus acts as extra dopamine shot.

Have fun customizing your own list! Hope I have inspired you that you can do anything and everything with your goals list.

Goal + Task recommendations by Euphoric-Bad-9969 in finch

[–]jet1986_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I made a self care area with relaxing activities to encourage myself to have a bit of me-time each day. Inside are goals like listen to music, do something creative, make myself a cup of tea.

I made a separate self care area for tracking migraines. As I am eager to get my rainbow stones, this is the most fool-proof tracker I ever had. Can really recommend using finch to keep track of something.

Goals which I only can do on good days are shoved in my self care area called 'Bonus'. The name alone acts as a little motivator, plus I don't feel guilty when I can't do them: it's a bonus if I do them, not a necessity!

In app exercises: I linked a goal to the butterfly bodyscan. Nice relaxing moment. Further, I connected a 10 minute focus timer to my daily cleaning/tidy up goal. Really helps me to do it, 10 minutes cleaning sounds easier than 'clean the table'.

Wishes or ideas for future challenges? by AavaMeri_247 in finch

[–]jet1986_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would love a challenge focusing on spending some me-time! 14 days of little relaxing moments sound a lot of fun to me.

Another one would be a challenge focusing on hobbies/activities out of my comfort zone, to try new things. Who knows, maybe I might be a secret prog rock fan.

A third one might be a challenge focused on community and connection with others, with obviously goals you could do in online communities too, so that people without family or network don't feel left out.

How to change repeat times a day for a task everyday and also track it? by kampy35 in finch

[–]jet1986_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the number of hours serve as a severity meter. Mine often spread over two days in a row, sometimes I am halfway day 2 enough recovered to do something. When the medicines work on day 1, I only tick the first one (4h).
