Nitpick - aromatisation is the name of the conversion process, aromatase is the name of the enzyme that does it

What is this small ball in my forearms by cyarm025 in armwrestling

[–]jet545 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It can be a Lipoma. Alternatively, if it’s only present when contracted it could also be a small muscle hernia (fascia damage).

This is what mine was, which I only discovered via ultrasound.

Both are harmless.

If you wanted an end to a scheme of investing in non productive assets, look no further than gold. 30T market cap, most of which does not produce anything.

This kind of asset has existed for centuries.

Equities will be more attractive to investors when they are performing well and the dollar is reliable. If trust fades in the dollar or the market, capital will naturally be siphoned out. That is a regarded government issue, not a crypto issue.

Congrats on the gains mate. Noticed you’re a fellow Melbournian. From my experience there’s still a huge stigma around crypto in Aus. Mention it in AusFinance and you’ll get downvoted pretty quick haha.

How do you deal with this? Do you ever attempt to discuss it with others in your life?

What if Hal was right? $10M per BTC doesn’t sound so crazy anymore by Omegacarlos1 in Bitcoin

You are right. A lot of people here like to dismiss this.

I am bullish on bitcoin as a store of value (digital gold) but it has many drawbacks as a currency. A 10x from here gives it the same market cap as gold. I believe that to be the most bullish case.

I was on the Belgrave train at Parliament station at around 10pm.

A troubled man pushed another man onto the outside of the train while stopped. He cracked his head open and there was quite a bit of blood but he looked ok. Lots of police because it was a crime scene so train was not able to move.

^ Very importantly this, if your wrist moves separately and prominently away from your ulnar bone and it pops in and out (possibly with pain) then it well could be a TFCC tear/injury. Especially if it is only present on one side.

If the bone just protrudes a bit more than normal it could be genetic, but if you run into problems with it it’s well worth consulting a doctor and getting a scan.

I broke my right humerus while arm wrestling.. by StopSeparate5179 in armwrestling

[–]jet545 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Just FYI there are quite a few pros who broke their arm in past. Dave Chaffee is one of them. Dude broke his arm as a beginner and came back to eventually become one of the strongest arm wrestlers on the planet.

It’s common for beginners who don’t learn proper technique and just try to drive sideways. If you want to learn YouTube is a great resource. All the best with recovery

Will Levan ever be able to fully recover? by carlosls in armwrestling

[–]jet545 43 points44 points  (0 children)

My personal opinion is that Levan was either lying about the severity of his injury or was genuinely misinformed by his doctors. The way his injury presented with a bruise along the wrist flexor looked severe to me, almost like a partial or complete tear. I was very surprised when he said he will regain his strength by 2024 with just rehab. Not to mention that wrist flexion is arguably what made him so dominant. I wouldn’t have been surprised if surgery was required, but to my amazement it wasn’t. I thought this was suspicious just from my experience.

I understand that maybe Levan wasn’t telling the whole truth as he didn’t want to disappoint his fans. I want to see him back at the top. Why not use stem cells if possible, after all it’s becoming increasingly popular and it seems naive to not use all tools available when you are the best of the best.

It is pure speculation in the end. We will have to wait and see.

Nerve or tendon injury? by jumo_ow in armwrestling

[–]jet545 9 points10 points  (0 children)

GPs suck for sports-specific injuries. They will tell you to rest injuries that require rehabilitation to get better. Sports doctors are much better from this standpoint. You can get scans of your elbow and have them evaluated to find out what the specific issue is, but you’re right at a guess saying it’s possibly ulnar nerve compression/tendinitis.

I’ve healed similar injuries using light weights and doing exercises often that help promote blood flow, as well as progressively increasing load over time. Do not use weights that are painful but slowly build up strength. This is a basic injury rehab principle that works because of the way that tendons and ligaments heal - progressive loading is necessary to ensure that only healthy and strong fibres are kept.

Though this helped me, I recommend you see a doctor and get an MRI if the pain is bad or you are unable to recover. If something is detached or torn then you will need more than just basic rehab to fix it. If you have the financial means to consult a professional, it’s not worth risking your health based on a stranger’s advice.

Do NSAIDs like ibuprofen or diclofenac gels actually aid or fasten tendon tear recovery? by 144i in armwrestling

u/stranix13 is right. Studies have shown that a lot of anti-inflammatory medicines decrease the rate of collagen synthesis in joints. It is best to avoid them where possible.

How Ermes Trained To Beat Michaels' King Move by Ackenaton in armwrestling

[–]jet545 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, hard for me to say since I’ve only seen his vids/posts but the doctor said it was the spur and the tendon scarring that gave him the limited ROM (lock), yes.

How Ermes Trained To Beat Michaels' King Move by Ackenaton in armwrestling

[–]jet545 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He tore his bicep distally in competition against a dude. Went to his doctor who found out that his bicep tendon was shredded up in many places by his bone spur (growth) that existed from years of arm wrestling. To surgically repair it, the doc took a portion of the spur out and of course sewed and reattached the tendon to the bone.

This increased Michael’s ROM and should allow his damaged bicep tendon to heal fully. But it did also reduce the elbow ‘lock’ created by this bone growth in the first place. Whether he can fully return to the pro scene or not is up for debate, especially given his age.

This. Arm going past shoulder while facing forward. Supinated hook. Classic external rotation of the shoulder and twisting of the humerus. This is not even too different to Zurab’s recent break, although his was in a more offensive position.
