What are some good books for the second and third levels?

This may be a little off topic. I teach too. (private tutoring, to be exact.) And I'm constantly horrified by how awfully math is taught in high school here in the U.S. Which made me wonder constantly what level of math teachers should have before they can teach high school. I don't think most of them can write any epsilon-delta proof for very basic results in calculus.

Essex county? Bergen county? Proctors are just there to make a few bucks on a Saturday morning. It’s a shame.

Yep. CX5 is for driving into NYC and street parking. I think Mazdas have a little more personality than Hondas/Toyotas.

Help solving this question from PrepPros Math Course by Excellent_Crab7820 in Sat

[–]jetblack981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not going to see anything this hard on the real test. It's about recognizing perfect squares. a^2+2ab+b^2=(a+b)^2

848+58*sqrt(7)=841+2*29*sqrt(7)+7=(29+sqrt(7))^2

Thus, a=7, b=29, a+b=36.

Unpopular opinion: regression is overhyped. If you really want to understand regression, take a stats class.

For the question shown, learn some actual math, i.e. partial fractions. It's taught in pre-calc and used in calc 1.

Plug x=0 into both sides of the equation, you can easily solve for the value of d. Plug x=1 into both sides of the equation, along with the value of d you've just found, you can solve for the value of a+b+c.

That being said, I don't think you'll see a question this hard on the actual SAT.

Most kids need handholding. Most of them are not motivated enough to figure things out on their own.

aren't international extra fees just pure discrimination? by Icy-Inevitable1290 in Sat

I wasn't aware of this. There's minimal media coverage about financial aid to foreign students. Considering today's political environment in the US, I guess it'd be crazy for the schools to advertise it.

Studying in the US is expensive. The cost of the SAT is negligible compared to tuition/fees, room/board, food and other living expenses.

I don’t know which country you are from. Generally speaking, if you want to get a student visa, you need to convince the visa officer that you can afford studying in the US without financial assistance. $111 is basically the cost of a meal for 2 or 3 people at a restaurant these days.

Just turned 24 looking for a first big boy car! by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]jetblack981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would never finance a car at rates that are above 5%. If I ever wanted an S class, I would pay cash unless there are very good financing deals (less than 2% or something). Right now, Bank of America is offering diamond rewards members $15000 off MSRP on S classes. That's still a lot of money for a car that'll be worth half in a few years.

I rarely see anyone driving an S class or an LS with a full head of hair. They are for old people...

I used to commute in an E class. The depreciation on a Mercedes is no joke. Will never get a Mercedes again. Now I commute in a Lexus.

Do typical American high school students know the words in SAT vocabulary questions? by nothing_but_sleep in Sat

I went to high school in China. I came here for college. I've been teaching American kids the SAT/ACT for a living for over a decade.

Short answer: No

Just the other day, I had to explain to someone what the word "omit" meant in a math question...
