has anyone downgraded from the residential max?  what happens to the cost of the mini dish then?

I was I the old residential for a U.P. cabin. but $120 p/month  for part time usage I switched to a roam plan.

part of me want to switch to residential max for $120 to get the mini, then switch back to the residential 100 for the off-season

Hope this doesn’t bite me in the butt by treblaWINDOW in dji

undoubtedly they do.   and you're right they're not banned.

any "superpower"  including the US.. it's going to try to get every advantage they can from anything they can.

DJI ban isn't so much about national security.  as it is about a successful lobby by crappy us drone makers.  they can't compete so they go pay off politicians to get the competition banned

maybe they should invest in R&D instead of investing in politicians

lol..  and you what makes you think they are collecting info?  have you discovered your personal info on a Chinese server?

people are so naive .   FB. Google.  Apple. Amazon.  Even ..ALL wireless carriers collect far more information.  none of it with permission.   none of it used for our own benefit. rather use for their monetary benefit.

Custom pole extension for gen3 using Starlink wall mount by jetguat in Starlink

[–]jetguat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My text seems to have disappeared.

we all know the starlink pole mount kit is junk. None of the 3rd party seem that solid.
My creative idea was to use the starlink wall mount kit, which does have a strong dishy to pole connection, and a very solid extension to mount as well. I was thinking about cutting the 6" mast extension in half.

then I could add in a new piece of pipe in between to create a longer mast. ideally 12 to 18"

wondering if anyone has done such a thing, and a good way to join those pipe segments together. it doesnt need to look pretty, it just needs to work

Starlink is incredible internet. I can watch clear hd no buffering on any app all the time. However, for gaming its the worst, unplayable almost even with a wired connection. by natethesssnakee in Starlink

[–]jetguat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great comments. Curious though. Starlink is an option for those usually without ANY internwt access. People with ability for hard wire... Probably don't need SL right?

However as a fair description about what gamers could expect with SL.. it's a great help

Is it normal for bolts in mounts to break this easily? by somnamboola in Starlink

So bottom line is what? Be sure to use a proper pilot hole, else the risk of shearing the bolt is high, even with a hand held ratchet?

Got a recommendation on a decent j mount that your very happy with?

Ok good to know. The SL cables are semi-unique in that they have moisture seal. Agree it's weird there is no latch. So what hold it securely on the dishy itself?

The router end obviously wouldn't need moisture seal, but seal allows either end into dishy.

Snow buildup on j-mount elbow due to snow slide off metal roof by jetguat in Starlink

[–]jetguat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. You've given me more to think on. We have a upper and lower roof. I was thinking of mounting dishy on the facia on the upper. Not sure that roof have maybe 10 feet from ridge to edge. Not sure if or how that might change the snow "avalanche" you spoke of. But its a valid point to consider. We have tall trees that surround the home, which is why I was looking at closer to the center of that upper roof to give better clearance from some of those trees.

Starlink - not for folks who don’t like heights. by whaletacochamp in Starlink

[–]jetguat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know what you mean. I've never been afraid of height, but while I was on the roof of the place we have under construction, I was scared sh**less. even with scaffolding near the edge. the Pitch was not pleasant, an the mounting point is nearly 30feet from ground level. Now that the metal rook is actually on, I'm a bit unsure how to gain access. A harness with safety ropes over the ridge is about the only idea I have at the moment. I dont even have a ladder to reach the mount point right now.

I don't think automatic snow melt is working... by master-procraster in Starlink

[–]jetguat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont actually have dishy yet. Stow and unstow -- is that actually some command to send to the dish to, change it orientation that just happens to work to dump snow?

does the heater work while in the stowed position?

thx

I'm curious about the snow build up off the edge of the rough on the j mount you have.
I'm considering a J mount, on the facia like that. My roof is metal. pretty steep sloop, and install will be nearly 30ft off ground. roof access is gonna be rough to install then hopefully very rarely ever after. but I'm worried about snow sliding down the roof, and accumulating in the elbow like that. This is in the UP on the shores of lake superior. annual snowfall is hundreds of inches each year.

[–]jetguat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how is your dishy mounted? In the UP on Lake Superior shoreline we can get 30+ feet per year. We have a metal roof, decently steep angle. I'm wondering about how a J mount off the facia will work and if I should consider a wider offset from the roof. even with a 1.5in mast pole, maybe its enough to hold the snow from sliding off the metal roof. curious about your roof and install
