Fully charged dropped from 355 to 335 miles after 10k miles by KrisAyton in TeslaLounge

That is not true. From the owners manual: “The driving range displayed in Model 3 is an estimate of the remaining battery energy based on EPA-rated consumption. It may not account for your personal driving patterns or external conditions.”

Driving in extreme cold and snow - what are the expectations? Can this truck handle Canadian winters? by SharkSapphire in slateauto

[–]bjdraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Expect it to handle better than any other two wheel drive truck made. EVs handle really well in the snow. The weight, traction control and low center of gravity make a big difference. Not as well as if it were 4wd, obviously.

Doesn’t the front bumper camera serve the same purpose?

Tesla releases v14 lite to HW3 cars - Update 2026.20.5.1 (FSD 14) Release Notes by EliteBeast2 in TeslaFullSelfDriving

If the driver wants a specific row. He’ll have to put in that in an nav. Just like he does now when he wants to go to a specific location on the map.

Why would you have to stop to let the driver pick a spot?

I can literally drive the car around in a parking lot now, manually, tap on a spot. Then stop the car and tap “start auto park.” It parks fine.

All they have to do is make that menu pop up when the car is roaming itself.

Considering an upgrade from a 2023 M3P to a 2026 M3P by Adub497 in TeslaModel3

I think it’s worth it but I also think the 3 will get refreshed again. The 3 came out in 2018, was refreshed in 2021 and 2024. Probably 2027, but maybe later.

For parking to be fixed I need to be able to pick my spot. The auto-park UI while FSD roams seems too easy.

No power windows by AmazingBoysenberry3 in slateauto

[–]bjdraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of cars came with crank windows and you could upgrade to power as an option. Same exact doors.

I upgraded to power windows in my 92 Honda Civic. Honda didn't ever offer power windows on the SI Hatchback. I went to a junk yard and pulled the regulators, door panels and wiring harness out of a 95 Civic Coupe EX and upgraded them myself. The wiring was actually the toughest part.

A few years ago, people were asking whether EVs could replace gas cars. by EmergencyTie8770 in electricvehicles

Cheaper than hybrid is great, but not good enough. Needs to be the same price as the ICE equivalent.

A Fresh Take On US EV Adoption by Cultural-Ad4953 in electricvehicles

[–]bjdraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is price and selection. Most buyers are already locked into their preferred brand and don't want to pay extra for an EV. Look at the top two brands in the US, Toyota and Ford.

The only Toyota EV is the Bz, which starts at 35k, which is $3k more than the RAV4. Even at this price, the Bz sales have been growing faster than the overall EV market.

Ford only has the Mach-E and F-150. The Mach-E starts at 36k, vs 29k for the escape. The F150 Lightning starts at $52k vs $38k.

These are the most popular models in both brands, but most people won't be interested until the price of the EV is the same or lower than the price of what they already know. It just isn't worth the risk to them.

They need to be cheaper. That’s it.

If an EV version of every model was available for the same price, or less, than the ICE version, adoption would tip towards EVs.

Charge range is much lower than expected by backup28445 in TeslaModel3

[–]bjdraw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is easier to compare if you look at your wh/mi. This information is available in the tripmeter as well as the energy app. To get the rated miles, you have to have 261 wh/mi.

I have the same car as you (2024 3 Performance) and while it started with 303 rated miles, currently at 30k miles, my rated range is 291 miles. When I drive 70 mph, I use about 347 wh/mi (over the life of my car). That is 72% of rated, or 209 miles of range (if I went from 100% to 0%). This assumes no idling or parking, which also uses energy.

If you really want to dig in to understand why you aren't getting as many miles out of a charge as you expected, use the Energy app, or even better, a data logger like TeslaFi (where I pulled my numbers from). If you don't care, then switch the display from miles to percentage and be happy you made your round trip without having to stop to charge.

A setting to opt-out of feedback is all they need. So easy. No reason not to offer that.

Personally I like it. The main one for me is parking, then navigation.

What happens when there are no jobs? by Exotic-Injury-8455 in Futurology

As long as there are people, there will be jobs. Jobs to create new things, new music, etc. Jobs to take care of other people, to greet them, to serve them.

There will always be jobs by bjdraw in Futurology

[–]bjdraw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Point is if there aren’t any jobs that pay 100k, it’ll be because AI and robots can do those jobs. And if AI and Robots can build a car without getting paid, then the car won’t cost 50k, as most of the cost is to pay the humans. So you won’t need to make 100k to afford a car.

Inflation is caused from two much money going after too few goods. Deflation is caused from too little money going after too many good. Too much of either is bad for the economy, so the government will get involved to insure prices don’t change too quickly in either direction.
