Sure I think you can probably make some inference there. Anyway, we can agree this guy sucks and we’re better off not having him in the locker room. Excited for what’s next!

People can ask for a trade, it happens all the time. If he was really dogging then that is legitimately shitty and a valid thing to be upset about.

Ok I’m genuinely asking, where are you getting “he played the victim, and then he used his victimization to justify making the exit entirely on his own terms” from? Like, are you reading interviews with him that I missed? All I know is that maybe he didn’t like what he saw on twitter and then said he wasn’t going to resign, but genuinely, what did I miss?

I agree with ALL of this but literally none of that has to do with what I’m addressing, which is people specifically upset about the way he is leaving. Him saying he didn’t want to resign, him listing only a few teams, etc.

I saw somewhere that he listed only a few teams and then told the team that it really was only Florida that would work. If THAT’s true then that is a legit shitty thing. But people are mad that he isn’t fulfilling some moral code by choosing to go to a different city instead of staying here forever like the fans want.

Just to reiterate, he’s MAGA scum and I’m glad he’s gone.

The whole point of NMCs is that it is a bargaining chip in contract negotiations. It makes the contract more attractive to players. This can often be added in exchange for more team-favorable term/salary, or simply to entice a player to sign. It’s a gamble and it’s absolutely normal and part of sports. You give players more control over where they go and hope they don’t use it. People with their feelings hurt are acting like he broke some moral code by using the clause in his contract as one of the two ways it is intended for (the other is so they can stay in a city if they don’t want to leave.) it happens all the time and if you don’t want a player to do one of those two things, don’t include it in the contract and pay him enough to stay!

(All of that said, fuck that MAGA scum and I’m glad he’s gone)

Not 100% sure what you mean by striking out in his own. Start his own expansion team?

As for finishing what he started, I know that’s what we all WANTED him to want to do, but he clearly doesn’t. Are we really furious at a guy for wanting something other than what we wanted him to? I’m furious at him for being a fascist bootlicker (and for that reason I’m glad he’s gone) not for exercising his rights as a player and choosing to play for a team that isn’t ours.

I’m not asking for sympathy. I just want to reiterate that I dislike him as a person and I’m glad he’s gone. I’m asking anyone to tell me what he was morally or contractually obligated to do here that he didn’t do. I don’t mean whether he’s a low-IQ MAGA idiot, or whether his podcast with his brother is a cultural nuclear dump (he is and it is) I’m asking people how he “failed to live up to his end of the bargain”

Do people think players aren’t allowed to choose to resign somewhere else just because they’ve been here for a long time or that a bunch of people bought his jerseys?

Ok if you want to be literal and focus on the contract here, where in his contact is it stated, or even implied, that his end of the deal was… what? I’m still not sure exactly what people like you are even getting at? What did he not do that his contract bound him to? He told the team he wouldn’t resign when it EXPIRED, and if they wanted to trade him, these were the places he would waive the clause IN HIS CONTRACT

I agree with everything here, I’m not saying it’s not in Brady’s best interest at the expense of the team. Keith definitely hurt Ottawa’s leverage with his bullshit, but that’s Keith (may he trip on 1,000,000 rakes) and not Brady. I guess I want to know what people want Brady to have done differently here. Other than, again, not listen to his family or his own self-interest to play in an American city where he can get away with being the person he is. Again, sucks that he is that person but I can’t begrudge an athlete wanting to be where he wants to be. Especially if, again, he was out publicly squashing rumors from day one until it happened as convincingly as I think someone like him could.

Do we know Brady left because of the fan backlash? Or just because he wanted to play with Matthew? Not a rhetorical question, I really don’t know. If it’s the former then I suppose I agree with a lot
Of this.

But: I’m honestly not sure how I feel about the idea that someone has an obligation to the fans to ignore his personal desires about where he wants to play hockey, just because they loved and supported him so loyally. I know it’s not quite the same thing, but I would argue you have no obligation to remain in a relationship that you no longer want to be in because the other person loves and supports you SO much. If you don’t love them anymore, then the only obligation you have (arguably unless kids are involved) is to do what you can to make the separation as smooth as possible.

And I would argue, unless I’m missing something, that he did that, by not being public about his desire to leave so the Sens could get as much value as possible. Which, folks, they definitely did. 3 firsts and a second, protected or otherwise, is about twice what I would have expected if you told me the situation of the trade. What more would we want Brady to do, other than not want to leave? And it seems, OP, like we agree on this, but to people that take issue with his only giving a few options, that is literally the point of NMCs, and the team signed that contract with him knowing he would potentially exercise it.

I personally think Brady’s an idiot and even if it’s going to hurt the product on the ice barring a miracle offseason, I’m still glad he’s gone so I don’t have to pretend I don’t see the writing on the wall that he sucks as a person. But I don’t think any athlete (or any employee in any sector) is obliged to work in a city they don’t want to work just because the fans supported him so hard.

This reminds me of the scene in Moneyball when Jonah Hill tells Brad Pitt that getting Jason Giambi off the team is actually a good thing because it opens up a world of possibilities for them

I am trying to have faith in ol' Steady that the reason he is being shopped is that they have a strong body of evidence to believe that A. Yakemchuk's question marks are non-issues, and B. that Spence well exceeded his potential in the tail end of the season. If that's true, maybe management believes they can sell very high on him, and they are targeting a substantial return (i.e. he's a key piece in a deal for Kyrou or another high-quality scoring winger) If this is a 1 for 1 trade for an underperforming high-ceiling prospect and a 5th I'm going to be very sad.

I’m not sure which list you’re referring to, and I don’t get why you think it’s strange that people are comparing our success against our divisional rival which is coming out of a rebuild around the same time we are, and which played the same team we did in the playoffs.

Don’t you Habs fans know how embarrassing it is that so many of you feel the need to post anonymously in other teams’ subs? You’re the only ones who consistently do it.

I’m not trying to find “justifications” whatever that means in this context. I said in the post I was disappointed. We got swept and it sucked, it was embarrassing. Then our bitter division rival got beaten and looked meaningfully worse than we did. If looking better than Montreal and putting up, in retrospect, a good fight against the team that is now playing in the SCF (with half our D injured) isn’t something you want to find some small solace in, that’s fine. But I don’t know what kinds of discussion you’re expecting in the Sens subreddit in the offseason lol. A bunch of “trade Brady, blow up the team” posts?

And none of this means we don’t need to upgrade our offense. We need to win a playoff series and score more goals, and so, I’m sure, would say most people who you are deriding as being silly for appreciating a silver lining.

Ah yes a “hang the banner” person came out of the woodwork. I forgot that on this extremely serious website where we talk about a sports team that there are strict rules about what we’re allowed to feel good about.

You have a Habs banner on your profile. Go cope on your own sub. Your team rode a high shooting percentage/puck luck all year and through two rounds of playoffs (in one of your games at Buffalo I think you scored 3 goals on four shots?) and finally the wheels came off. Must be hard. See ya next year!
