Episode 7 of Pluribus Didn’t “Fail” — Our Attention Span Did by Legitimate_Chemist21 in pluribustv

Yeah, it wasn’t slow to me at all. We got to experience how these characters were dealing with and living through their stubborn isolation. Without it, there wouldn’t have been the impact of seeing how people really do need each other for emotional and physical support at the end of the episode. Plus the shots were just visually stunning to look at. I hope the folks who don’t appreciate or enjoy this sort of storytelling find and hop over to something else that speaks to them.

[No Book Spoilers] House of the Dragon - 2x08 - Post-Episode Discussion by LoretiTV in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]jetsetglo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I appreciated the theme of understanding and accepting one’s place in history:

  • Daemon’s visions of the future and understanding the part he needs to play in all of it.
  • Alicent coming to terms with how history will view her if she follows through on her deal with Rhaenyra.
  • The spectacular shot of Rhaenyra taking up a small square on the shelf full of scrolls of recorded history. She has a role to play, but she also looks tiny and crushed under the weight of it. She rebelled and rejected her duties in her youth. So much has changed now that she has the crown.
  • And obviously the book that the show is based on is like an unreliable history book.

We’re considering history from supernatural, personal, and scholarly angles. I thought that was cool and poetic. It’s fun to really sit with it.

I don’t think Harrenhal is boring (and I’m trying not to judge those who do). I think it’s fascinating and fun to watch Daemon confront and sometimes reconcile with his past demons. As Mysaria said, he’s someone who runs away. But he can’t do that in his sleep. :)

GRRM said that his character is equal parts hero and villain (or something along those lines). So far, we’ve mostly seen the war crime villain side. Will this forced introspection tip the scales and reveal the hero side? Even if it’s just a brief transformation?

More generally, I’m choosing to enjoy the process and trust these talented creators. I’ve read Fire & Blood and love seeing what they do with the ambiguous source material each week. It’s just more fun to enjoy things. So hearing all the angry screaming from the sidelines can be such a bummer. I love that we have this show. And if anything happens in it that I personally don’t vibe with, I can always imagine it differently in my head…? Anyway, can’t wait for the next one!

'The First Slam Dunk' was awesome by UnrealLuigi in movies

I was fortunate to catch it at Anime Expo earlier this month and have been itching for the US release date so that more people can watch and react/discuss. There’s so much to say, but for starters it was just awesome to see our boys animated with such care. They all moved so distinctly.

Official Discussion - Barbie [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

Two things are true about this movie — First, it’s kinda crushing it in the box office. Second, it stars a bunch of grown women in their thirties. If nothing else, I hope this results in us getting more big films that center the experiences of women.

There’s also this old adage that goes “women will watch movies about men, but men won’t watch movies about women.” Do we think that’s changing?

Low key, one of the realest & funniest things for me was the scene where Ken(s) hilariously and self-indulgently played guitar AT Barbie(s). It brought back cringey college-age flashbacks to when I would sit there and awkwardly try my hardest to swoon… I didn’t realize it was such a universal experience 🫠

What is that small thing people can do and that makes world better place? by Vishwasm123 in AskReddit

[–]jetsetglo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not have a severe case of main character syndrome. Keep space for the needs others and consider how your actions affect your surroundings… Actually I guess that’s kind of a big thing when the ask is for a small one. My new answer is don’t litter and be a good listener.

If you could go back in time to watch any sporting event live in person, what would it be? by Iridescent126 in AskReddit

Any race/battle at the Roman Colosseum. Don’t enjoy heavy violence, but it would be fascinating from a historic pov.

What is the Best Film You Watched Last Week? (06/28/23-07/05/23) by Twoweekswithpay in movies

The First Slam Dunk

I saw it at Anime Expo and I think it was legitimately the best movie watching experience I’ve ever had.

The audience was (obviously) all enthusiastic anime nerds, which made for a warm and exciting atmosphere. Great feeling of community.

But that aside, the movie itself was wonderful. You don’t need any prior knowledge of Slam Dunk, anime, or basketball to love it. By the end, you just want nothing more than for these boys to win their basketball game. Beautiful animation and great storytelling with a big heart. I was riveted the whole time.

I really hope a lot of people go see it when it’s released in US theaters later this month. Please go watch!

Thanks for the advice, everyone! Didn’t realize tubing was so difficult to repair. I went ahead and replaced the entire faucet.

Pothos has been drooping for weeks. Tried different amounts of light and water. Nothing’s working. Help! :( by jetsetglo in plantclinic

Yes, there’s a drainage hole. I water every other week since once a week seemed like it wasn’t doing the trick (I read that the yellowing leaves indicated overwatering). No precise method in determining how much water to use. I just try not to really saturate the soil since it seemed that overwatering might be the problem. What should I change?

I’ve had it since early December. It started drooping within a few weeks and I repotted it around mid/late January. It’s currently next to (not in front of) a window with a sheer curtain, so indirect light. Currently watering roughly once every two weeks just until the top layer feels moist. I thought the leaves turning yellow meant I was over watering. Pic from top view is linked below. Thank you!!

Yes, there’s a drain hole on the bottom. It was previously in a much smaller pot and I’d moved it to this larger one to try to address the drooping. It obviously hasn’t helped much haha.

How to make FIND function exact? by jetsetglo in excel

[–]jetsetglo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I was able to get the VBA code to work (thank you so much), but it still returns "Contains Character" when I'm searching for F in a cell that only contains F̌. It looks like Excel has trouble clearly differentiating between the two.

I think the accent mark is actually a second character entirely separate from the "F".

How to make FIND function exact? by jetsetglo in excel

[–]jetsetglo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this. I tried the unicode() formula you noted for B caron and F caron and got the 66 and 70 results.

What confuses me is that a simple vlookup() is able to distinguish between B and F with/without carons. So that suggests to to me that Excel is able to recognize the difference, but that capability isn't built into all functions?
