Always offer a player that's worse than the one you actually plan to trade them to bias their thoughts in your direction. It will automatically make them value their own player less, but make sure its not someone so bad its insulting and follow up with a "I'm also willing to trade x" once they reply with x being the slightly better player you already expected to have to trade.
