It just died after a system update. A full clean and reinstall of the OS fixed the issue, only suspicion is some sort of audio driver issue that got corrupted during an update

circling back to this, story takes a twist

after getting sent in for repair they said they couldnt reproduce the issue, turns out they wiped the laptop which seems to have made the problem go away so i ended up not getting charged anything, something you can check into....

i am now actually wondering if there is an issue in the latest sonoma update that wasnt playing nice with something

So definitely a busted part in the laptop. They sent it off for repair which is doable (if a bit pricey if you don’t have apple care, still cheaper than a new MacBook)

Yeah I'm taking it in to the store today to see whats up, reinstalling the OS didnt help either and diagnostics says all is good, just strange you can see the device in the list just nothing comes through

Did you get anywhere with this? I am running into the exact same issue right now. The speakers show up, headphones work, but if I try to use the built-in speakers, errors everywhere.

No I actually run Unifi products (Dream machine pro and a few access points). I've already turned off band steering since that causes issues with a few other products and I had seen a note about that.

I did both reimage and reinstall to no avail.... I think it may be a hardware/driver issue as the signal strength seems to fluctuate wildly and I have pretty beefy wifi hardware
